  • Un-BELIEVABLE!!!

    I really can't believe this.

The Nashville Predators lost tonight against Columbus. (Good news for Admirals fans)

Cal O'Reilly scored his second NHL goal (Great news for everyone).

Antti Pihlstrom got injured. (Bad news for everyone).

Pihlstrom saw only 1:23 of ice time. About 5 minutes into the game, Pihlstrom was crushed on an open-ice hit from Mike Commodore. It was a clean hit, but Pihlstrom suffered an "Upper Body Injury" and did not return.

JP Dumont was also banged up in this one. He was sandwiched into the boards by two Blue Jackets at the Columbus bench door. He stayed face down on the ice for several minutes before being assisted to the dressing room. (He would return in the third period)

There's a chance that Ryan Jones could return to the lineup in time for Friday's game against Chicago. If not, Hugh Jessiman or Jed Ortmeyer would likely be called up to Nashville. (I guess Nick Spaling would be another option, too)

You can see both the hit on Pihlstrom and Cal's goal here. (Pihlstrom's hit is the second highlight, Cal's goal is the third)

  • Contest = Cookies

Okay, one more contest for the regular season here.  And yes, winner gets cookies from the media room.  (Some restrictions apply*)

There are 8 teams in the West Division.  The Admirals will finish the year in 1st place.

Give us the rest of the list in order of finish.  Don't worry about point totals....just give us the order.

Everyone who matches the order of all 8 teams will get cookies at the first playoff game (or second playoff game if you've got a Thursday night book club that you can't get out of on the 16th).  We'll work out seat locations for delivery at a later time.

Entries are due by Wednesday April 1st at 7pm (prior to the Admirals road game).  Just reply in the comments section of this post.

    Good luck!

*Cookies cannot be mailed out of state/country.  Admirals Short Shifts will not be responsible for any allergic reactions to nuts, chocolate, sugar, and awesomeness.  This contest has absolutely nothing to do with James Sixsmith.  If you don't come to the playoffs, the cookie prize does not carry over to next season.  All rights reserved.

  • Admirals Announce Dates For Playoffs

Imagine how excited I was when I was told that the Admirals had announced dates for the first two playoff games.

    I thought it was a little like a social-mixer:

Ryan Miller's date would be Meg McKenzie because they both do game hosting.

My date would be Steph Muraro.

Dave Boehler's date would be Roscoe.

Then I found out that's NOT what they meant...and I was crushed. I would have to find my own date to the playoffs. But at least I know when the games will be!

The Admirals first playoff game will be Thursday, April 16th at 7pm.

Game #2 will be Saturday April 18th at 7:30 pm.

Tickets go on sale !!!!!!!!!TODAY!!!!!!!! at 1pm CDT

    From the release:

  • All-Rookie Team / Santorelli Story

The AHL will announce the All-Rookie Team for the 08-09 season on Wednesday (hey!  That's tomorrow!)

Figure Dekanich will make that list?  He's 3rd in the league in GAA currently with a sparkling 2.14.  I'd say there's a good sporting chance.

Also, Mike Santorelli is headline news at the AHL's website today.  Here's the link.

The story says nice things about Mike and pretty much paints him as the best guy ever.  And before I make fun of the author, yes, it's awesome that we're getting that kind of coverage.  So thank you for that!  But, you'd think that the author would at least reference that he just got called up again.  Here's the concluding paragraph:

Judging by his determination so far this season, if he continues on the same pace that he is on right now, he will definitely be seeing more of Nashville and the NHL in the not too distant future. For now, the West Division champion Admirals will depend on Santorelli for his talent and leadership to bring another playoff run to Milwaukee.

The not to distant future, huh?  He was called up in the not too distant past!  Called up before you posted your article.  But why let facts get in the way of a good story, right?

And his quotes are textbook Mike Santorelli quotes...

"I think it’s both hard work and skill development.  I like to work really hard, but I think it’s improvement of my game too."

"We had a real good stretch as a team and getting to go to the All-Star Game with Cody and Cal was really fun.”

"It was great; all the guys up there. They know so many things. I was up there for six games and I learned so much in that time.”

Great player.  Not a great soundbyte generator.

  • Santorelli Called Up!

This is proof - Nashville hates me.

Not only do they call Mike Santorelli up today...after I explicitly stated that it made no sense to do so until tomorrow. But they wait until I go to lunch before making the announcement.

Bunch of jerks, I tell you.

Anyway - Dave Legwand's facial re-evaluation came back today...and he is going to miss at least the rest of the regular season with a fractured cheekbone.

And Martin Erat isn't sounding all that great either.

So that means Santorelli gets the call.

We will be trolling for news from Las Vegas, as we expect to see an Adam Miller (re)signing any day now.

If we don't sign Miller - what the heck are our lines going to look like Wednesday night?

    Ortmeyer-Spaling-Wilson

    Maki-Eizenman-Jessiman

    McKenzie-Peters-Grant

    Thuresson-Sixsmith-Mark Santorelli

And that's assuming Peters is healthy enough to play.
