Did Drew MacIntyre Sign?

Drew MacIntyre

****Update:  Yes.  Yes he did.  Don't have the numbers yet, though.

A tip of the hat to Sniper for bringing us this news yesterday, and to SLake for posting a comment about it today....

The NHL.com player page for the Atlanta Thrashers now lists Drew MacIntyre as one of their goalies. This of course would be bad news - as it could lead to MacIntyre being the starter next season for the Chicago Wolves.

We cannot find any other confirmation of this, however (other than his Wikipedia page). MacIntyre is still listed as an Admiral on the AHL website, and neither the Thrashers website nor the Wolves website indicate any signing.

The Thrashers website only lists three goalies: Johan Hedberg, Ondrej Pavelec, and Keri Lehtonen.

If this is true, it could mean we'll be seeing a lot more of MacIntyre than we were anticipating.

Also - since I'm making a post....it's sort of worth noting that Corey Locke has left the Houston Aeros. One of their leading scorers last year...he signed as a free agent with the Rangers. So we won't have to worry about him anymore. Still no word on Krys Kolanic Kolanos.

Well, we knew it was coming.  Just wish it had been with a different team.  Maybe with a little luck, he'll be #2 in Atlanta?

Well on the preds roster page if you click on Drews name an error page comes up but if you click on any other name it gives you  that players stats. Sucks that he will be playing for Shitcago next season at least our team knows his weaknesses and tendencies.

Yesterday the NHL site was showing Jason Krog as being part of the Atlanta organization again and today the press release that he signed a 2 year deal with Atlanta was released.

Not looking good :( heh

Well I just saw that Lehtonen is an RFA, but I can't see the organization letting him go for the likely first and third round draft picks they would recieve just to rush Pavelec to the big league, based on his NHL showing from last year.

It's hard to pass judgment on Drew based on his lack of NHL playing time (2 appearances in the 07-08 season with Vancouver), but I just don't think a Hedberg-MacIntyre platoon in the crease would work out if they let Lehtonen go.  Only things I can think of is releasing Hedberg or try to scrape up something trade-worth for him and have Drew be the number 2 in ATL.

Or, perhaps I'm reading too much into this and he'll platoon with Pavelec in Chicago, but I can't see him taking the heavier bulk of the starts for the Wolves if Pavelec has already been pegged as the future of goaltending for the Thrashers.  Hey, haven't we heard that before?

MacIntyre signed a one way deal, so I am assuming he is in the plans of the big club.

I haven't seen that anywhere, RM. If this is indeed a one-way deal, what a tremendous risk for Atlanta.

You are giving a lot of money to a guy who hasn't proven himself at the NHL level, and you are going to further piss off your self-anointed "goalie of the future" in Ondrej Pavelec.

Thrashers GM Don Waddell has said as recently as least season that Kari Lahtonon and Ondrej Pavelec are both top goalies, and are both critical to the organization.

"It's a No. 1 and 1a situation," Waddell said.

Is this a sign that Pavelec's performance last season soured the organization?

Pavelec held out at the beginning of last season because he didn't feel he was given a fair shot. What do you think he'll do if the Thrashers sign a NEW goalie to a one-year contract.

If that's what they did........Wow.

FYI -- RM is not me :)

But I am looking for verification about the one-way deal...

Frankly, I'm surprised that there are not more press releases and coverage regarding this.

I've been searching, but can't find terms of the contract.  The popular rumors on the Thrashers boards seem to be Pavelec and some prospects to either San Jose or Chicago for a power forward type.

Dont worry about me...Jamdad or anyone... I only love one player on the wolves team (right now.. till he goes somewhere else) NOT the whole team.  My loyalty and love will always be with Mark Dekanich and his boys.  FOREVER.
