Finally! Cal Re-signs

Let's not mess around - we all want to know if this is a one-way deal or a two-way deal.

Well...it's both. :)

The first year is a two-way deal worth $550,000 at the NHL level and $105,000 at the AHL level. The second year is worth $575,000 - and is a one way contract.

I could go on and on about Cal's stats from last year...but you already know what he did, right?

I think this makes a lot of sense from the team's standpoint. The Preds were beginning to pigeon-hole themselves with one-way contracts and guys that would have to clear waivers. This allows them to keep some roster flexibility while still giving a nod towards Cal as a part of their future.

It makes a lot of sense for the Predators, however, I still think that Cal deserves to be there.  He's done the job for them when he's been up and there's no reason for them not to think that he's an asset.  I hope he blows them away at camp.

I think he'll be given every opportunity in the world to win the 3rd-line-center position.  But Eric is 100% right....they needed this roster flexibility this year just in case things don't go as planned.  It may end up being moot because he should do a fine job....but you never know what'll happen in training camp....Joel Ward came out of left field last year, and Cal was hurt during a good chunk of training camp....

We'll see.

Honestly, I don't see Cal going back to Milwaukee this season.  I think he's penciled in at third line center heading into training camp, but will also get a shot to jump to second line center (moving Legwand to the wing) during camp if Santorelli doesn't plug that gaping hole in the lineup.

O'Reilly showed top-notch playmaking skills and excellent on-ice vision during his stint in Nashville last season and with a little talent on his wings, I think he could really be a catalyst to bring out the best in whomever winds up as his linemates.

Personally, I'm hoping to see Cal start the season with Jones and Ward on his wings on the third line.  That just leaves open that pesky second line wing spot that it appears Santorelli will get the first chance to claim starting next week...

Is it too self serving to hope that Cal stays in Milwaukee until January? We need some goal scoring down here in Milwaukee.
