With the rapid roster turnover the last week or so, we thought it would be a good time to take stock of the Nashville roster - try to figure out if we should expect any more player movement in the next few days.
The first thing to know is that Milwaukee plays Wednesday, while Nashville plays next on Thursday. So there really isn't any immediate need to do anything until Wednesday night.
Currently, the Preds have 23 players on their roster (which is the maximum allowed). Of those 23, 14 are forwards, 7 are defensemen, and 2 are goalies.
Both Preds goaltenders are healthy (as far as anyone knows). So there won't likely be any movement there.
All seven defensemen are healthy, too (as far as anyone knows). Alexander Sulzer has been the healthy scratch the last couple of games. So if they DID decide to send down a defenseman you would figure Sulzer would be it. I don't think anyone expects that to happen, though. Then again, I don't think anyone expected Sulzer to be a healthy scratch in the first place.
UPDATE 1:00pm Shea Weber has an injured foot and will miss one-to-two weeks. We'll have to see if Nashville is confident with having only 6 defensemen, or if they call someone up.
Of the 14 forwards, two are on Injured Reserve: Jason Arnott and Jordin Tootoo. That leaves just 12 active forwards on the roster. Add in the injury to Martin Erat, and the Preds have only 11 completely healthy forwards. If neither Erat, Arnott, nor Tootoo are able to go Thursday - we will almost certainly see someone go back up. That's not likely to happen, however. Arnott is skating with the team and is planning to return Thursday. Erat's injury doesn't sound severe, so he may be able to go, too.
Likewise, since the Preds have only 21 active players, they will not need to re-assign anyone to bring Arnott or Tootoo off of IR.
Of course - just because they don't NEED to make any changes, doesn't mean they won't.
UPDATE 11/3: News out of Nashville is that Martin Erat will not make the trip to Anaheim for Thursday's game; neither will Colin Wilson (!). However, both Arnott and Tootoo are expected to suit up. Those injuries, coupled with Shea Weber's, means Nashville will hit the ice with only 18 available skaters.
Don't expect that to happen. That leaves no wiggle room for Joel Ward (or anybody else) to tweak something during warmups.
