Election day is here, my friends! I do not care who you are voting for, but make sure you get up to the polls. Americans are lucky enough to be a part of such a historic election. Be a part of it! - Ken Rosenthal from FOX Sports argues that the Milwaukee Brewers are unlikely to trade Prince Fielder because he is their only left-handed bat, and it would be a public relations nightmare to the majority of Brewers fans. I completely agree. The left-handed bat actually means quite a bit to Doug Melvin. He has talked about it a lot in his interviews thus far this offseason. If DM gets a ridiculous deal, however, the young first baseman could still be out of Milwaukee.
Rosenthal also says that the Crew is reluctant to move either Alcides Escobar or J.J. Hardy. The team could move Hardy to second and attempt to package Rickie Weeks in a trade. That could get the Crew a #3/#4 pitcher in return, but that still leaves the problem of third base. It would be a start though. - Brew Crew Ball discusses the "actual value" of Mike Cameron. After all the analysis, the answer is quite clear. There is no one available that is better than Cameron.
- Baseball Musings mentions the Milwaukee Brewers officially sent in a contract offer to CC Sabathia. David Pinto makes a good point when he says that whatever the offer is, it would make the big lefty a rich, rich man. Is it enough?
- MLB Trade Rumors says that the Brewers would be in the market for Huston Street this offseason. Didn't that ship already pass?
- Right Field Bleachers has 50 things that could keep Brewers fans busy during the offseason. I personally enjoy the "start scoring points with the significant other that you can cash in next season." Solid.
- Chuckie Hacks gives his thoughts on the recent Brewers news. The post says that Mike Maddux will need quite a lot of luck to succeed in Texas, picking up Mike Cameron was an absolute no-brainer, and Brewers fans can say goodbye to CC Sabathia after the Brewers offer.
- Team Wisconsin says that Ben Sheets will likely follow Mike Maddux to the Texas Rangers. I have heard that from a couple places now, but I find it unlikely. The management in Texas said they did not want to sign a pitcher over 30, much less an injury prone one. It would vastly upgrade their starting rotation, however. They could pay more money for a shorter amount of time, and Sheets could use that to up his value for a long-term contract. Who knows?
- MLB Trade Rumors has the 2009 Top 50 Free Agents. Tim Dierkes also predicts where individual players will land this offseason. He predicts the Crew will land Brian Fuentes and Jon Garland over the winter. I do not want either player, so let's hope that does not come true!
- MLB Trade Rumors says that the D'Backs could be looking at Ramon Vasquez for their third base vacancy, but he struggled mightily against lefties. Could he be a cheap signing to platoon with Bill Hall next season? It would have to be a strict platoon, obviously. Vasquez did hit .290/.365/.430 in 347 plate appearances...
- The Hardball Times argues Roberto Clemente is the best best Rule 5 Draft pick between 1941 and 1966. I suppose it is quite difficult to argue against that, even though the article mentions nine other Rule 5 steals. Give it a look!
