According to Dave O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (via MLB Trade Rumors), the Atlanta Braves may be willing to move Javier Vazquez in search of a bat.
The Braves don't want to trade Javier Vazquez, but realize he could help them acquire an impact player, presumably a bat.
That is the kind of impact pitcher the Brewers should be chasing if they are serious about upgrading their pitching staff. I have generally been against trading prospects for pitching, but Vazquez is signed through the 2010 season. This is not a rent-a-pitcher situation -- if the rumors about his availability are factual.
The Braves have been connected to Corey Hart in the past. Could they still be interested? How about J.J. Hardy? The Braves are willing to part with Yunel Escobar, which could open up for an impact bat like J.J.'s -- even if he is currently struggling. Would it require Mat Gamel or Alcides Escobar? If so, Doug Melvin is probably not about to pursue that path, as he has publicly said many times that he is not willing to move either of those pieces.
What do you think, Brewers fans?
