Brewers Decline Weathers' Option

The same day the Milwaukee Brewers traded J.J. Hardy to the Minnesota Twins for center fielder Carlos Gomez, the organization also announced that they declined David Weathers' 2010 option.

No real surprise there. The option was for $3.7 million with a $400,000 buyout. The Brewers need to allocate money elsewhere.

Weathers has been a good reliever over the years but just turned 40 and struggled down the stretch after coming from Cincinnati. He posted a 1-3 record and 4.88 ERA in 25 appearances with the Brewers.

Considering Weathers has seen his numbers consistently decline over the past couple of seasons, this decision was a no-brainer.
