Do you know who will make the cut?

A lot will depend on Thursday night’s game. Right now they have 78 on the roster, 3 of those being on the injured reserve list. They need to lose a total of 25 by Saturday to get down to the 53 man roster, and then pull 8 more guys from that 53 for the practice squad.

So really, 33 of these guys aren’t going to make the game-day roster. Who isn’t going to make the cut? With so many quality athletes this year, it seems logical to first take a look at the rookies, by position.

10 Matt Flynn QB 6-2 222 23 R Louisiana State D7a-08
11 Brian Brohm QB 6-3 223 22 R Louisville D2b-08

Our 2 rookie QBs, obviously going to make it. Flynn is also multi-talented…he can be a holder on special teams as well. Must have great hands. Way to go Matt…

Taj Smith

WR 6-0 198 24 R Syracuse FA-08
13 Jake Allen WR 6-4 196 23 R Mississippi College FA-08
16 Brett Swain WR 6-0 203 23 R San Diego State D7b-08
87

Jordy Nelson

WR 6-3 217 23 R Kansas State D2a-08

The rookie WRs make up 4 of 9 on the roster right now, behind Driver, Martin, Jennings, and Jones. But from what I hear, Jones is having knee problems so it’s possible that they may want to bring on an extra guy. Jordy Nelson was a Packer’s top pick and has been playing very well, so if he can pull through Thursday I would put money on him as a guarantee. As far as the other 3 rookies and 1 yr vet Quinn, there hasn’t been a standout performer so it will really come down to not only this next game, but what they can do on special teams as well.

49 Joey Haynos TE 6-8 268 23 R Maryland FA-08

88

Jermichael Finley

TE 6-5 247 21 R Texas D3-08
44 Evan Moore TE 6-6 247 23 R Stanford Knee

Behind TEs Donald Lee and Tory Humphrey, who we hope will remain uninjured this season, someone will need to step up and replace big Bubba Franks. With Moore currently on the IR list, that leaves an opening for Finley and Haynos, in which case I would choose Finley who has had 3 receptions in the preseason.

28 Kregg Lumpkin RB 5-11 228 24 R Georgia FA-08

Currently behind 4 other backs, Lumpkins has been debated over quite a bit. Not only is he healthy, but he’s had the best overall performance out of all the RBs this preseason. Personally I would keep him over Morency.

Outside of Sitton and Thompson, who are obviously needed and were drafted to fill particular gaps in the line-up, the rest of these guys, as well as well as some of the vets, will be battling it out on Thursday night.
22 Pat Lee CB 6-0 194 24 R Auburn D2c-08
41 Scorpio Babers CB 5-11 194 24 R Sam Houston State FA-08
46 J.J. Jansen LS 6-2 256 22 R Notre Dame FA-08
58 Danny Lansanah LB 6-1 248 22 R Connecticut FA-08
67 Rodney Allen DT 6-2 315 23 R Kansas FA-08
68 Breno Giacomini T 6-7 311 22 R Louisville FA-08
71 Josh Sitton G 6-3 317 22 R Central Florida D4b-08
99 Jeremy Thompson DE 6-4 270 22 R Wake Forest D4a-08
Green Bay has had a young team the past few seasons, and this year will be no different. Think you know who has the best chance? Feel free to make your prediction and let us know. Otherwise check back in tomorrow because I’m headed down to the Harley 105th to see what types of shenanigans I can get into, so there should be some great pics. I’ll also be at the Packer’s game Thursday, and if my credentials clear in time, I’m making it my mission to try and shave off the animal that seems to be growing on Rodgers’ face.

With that, I’ll leave you with your man quote of the day, and a picture that is too funny not to post:

Man Law of the Day #20

“When eating at a restaurant, if another man at your table orders an alcoholic drink, you are required to order a stronger drink than the one he just ordered. This should be followed by a look of pity directed at the other man, a chuckle, than a headshake.”

Actually, the 8-man practice squad is in *addition* to the 53-man roster. And those 8 practice squad members can come from any NFL team's cut players. I would expect that 5 or so of those practice squad players for the Pack will be people on the current 75-man roster, with maybe 3 coming from other teams. (and another team will pick up a few of the guys we cut).

Thanks for the clarification. 53 on the actice roster, 45 on the game day roster, and an additional 8 on the practice squad.

Close. :) It's 53 on the active/inactive roster -- 45 active on gameday, 8 inactive on gameday (one of those 8 is the #3 QB who is eligible to play if both guys ahead of him get hurt). On TOP of that, there is an 8-man practice squad. Those 8 can practice with the team, but cannot be put on the gameday active list without first being placed on the 53 man roster. Those 8 can also be acquired by other teams.

So, in effect, all NFL teams typically have 61 players actively practicing every week: 53 active/inactive + 8 practice squad.
