It's off to Uruguay for Marquette's Dwight Burke...

Dwight Burke worked hard every day that he was at Marquette. He worked hard in the weight room, the classroom and on the court. Dwight finished his collegiate career and earned his degree at Marquette last year, and now it is time for all of that hard work to pay off. While the New York native may have been the member of his class that garnered the least attention, he will be the first to start his professional career when he laces up his shoes in South America. SportsBubbler was able to catch up with the '4th Amigo' for a little Q & A before he leaves for Uruguay...

SB: Where exactly will you be playing?

Dwight Burke: I'll be playing in Uruguay's capital city (Montevedio). The name of the team is Bigua Basket.

SB: When do you leave?

Dwight Burke: I leave Thursday evening.

SB: How did this come about?

Dwight Burke: It came about after a long process of negotiations with several teams with no luck. The global economy is very shaky right now and money is scarce in a lot of places so many players are having a hard time finding jobs overseas. So it took some time, a bit of stress and patience, but the right situation opened up for me. They are a serious organization known for winning, so I think it will be a good fit for me to start my career.

SB: You said they are known for winning?

Dwight Burke: Yes, and I believe they won the championship in the league the past two years.

SB: How long is the season?

Dwight Burke: The season starts in October and could go all the way up to April depending on the playoffs.

Burke gives St. Jerome 3rd grader SB: Do you know anyone you will be playing with?

Dwight Burke: I dont know anyone I will be playing with. I know they had a guard that went to Texas A&M that left, and one that went to Duquense that is still there, and the other American spot has yet to be filled so I'm still waiting to see.

SB: What will you miss most about MU?

Dwight Burke: What I will miss most about MU is just the friendships and relationships I built. I still think about all of my teammates throughout the years. I speak to many of them at least once a week or so. I became close with those guys over my years there and will remain that way for long time. It was a great period of my life and I appreciate the player, person, and man it made me. A lot of memories, too many to list...so I'll just leave it at that - lol!

Wow. Congrats Dwight...and to think he was the least acclaimed of the Core Four at MU and he is the first one to officially get a Pro job! LOL...irony of all ironies..

Ah it reminds of the words of a great prohet, Lord and Savior..."the last shall be first and the first shall be last..."

Best wished Mr Burke of an outstanding if not unsung career at MU and best regards in your Pro career over in overseas. It will be an experience...

Get paid on time, and keep your mind and self busy and blessed...
