Friday Night Lights September 25th

This week's Big Hit Team of the Week is Waukesha West - The Wolverine's came up with big play after big play last week pulling the shocking upset over Hartland Arrowhead. West has had a tough road so  far, but has come out on top each week. The Wolverines started off with big wins over Whitefish Bay and Wisconsin Lutheran, then blew out Waukesha South, but not until the upset of Arrowhead did they find themselves in the top 10. Now that they are there, don't expect them to be leaving anytime soon. This weekend they head to Mukwonago, and should return with another 'W'.

This week's Team on the Rise is Whitefish Bay - The Blue Dukes gave Waukesha West everything they had and barely fell short in the end to open the season, but they have been on a roll since cruising past Slinger, Nicolet and Germantown by a total of 103-13. The Blue Dukes have an impressive offensive attack with QB Cal Ehrke, RB Brian Kroll and they also have one of the best kickers in the nation in Will Hagerup. If the Dukes can take Port this weekend, they could be the next team to find themselves in the top 10.

Here are the biggest matchups throughout the state for this week's edition of Friday Night Lights - Last week I was 4-4 with my pigskin prognosticating after going 7-2 in week one, so now I am standing at 11-5. Not too bad, but , let's see if I can return to week one form this week!

~ Games of the Week ~ Big Schools ~

#1 Homestead (4-0) vs Cedarburg (4-0) ~  Bulldog Logan Lauters has been running circles around opposing defenses, but will the dawgs up front be able to clear holes for him against the Highlanders? Yes they will, and Lauters will rack up some yards, but the kilt wearing men from Mequon will prove to be too much in the end, Homestead stays on top.

#5 Waunakee (4-0) vs DeForest (3-1) ~ The Warriors have been successful on the ground and in the air behind RB Kyle Acker and QB Trent Cummings, but DeForest RB Cory Wipperfurth will prove to be too much to handle, and the Norskies will upset the Warriors and return home with the win.

Here is where the rest of the biggest and best from the Large Division schools are playing

1. Homestead (4-0) vs Cedarburg (4-0)
2. Stevens Point (4-0) vs Antigo (1-3) sat.
3. Marquette (4-0) vs Brookfield East (2-2)
4. Appleton North (4-0) vs Oshkosh North (2-2)
5. Waunakee (4-0) vs DeForest (3-1)
6. Bay Port (4-0) vs Sheboygan North (1-3)
7. Arrowhead (2-1) vs Pius (1-3)
8. Middleton (3-1) @ Janesville Craig (0-4)
9. Kimberly (3-1) @ Appleton West (1-3)
10. Waukesha West (4-0) @ Mukwonago (0-4)

~ Games of the Week ~ Medium Schools ~

#2 Pewaukee (4-0) vs Brown Deer (4-0) - Pewaukee, Brown Deer. Rivalry. Huge. Chris Smith & Brett Youngbeck have the Falcons flying high this season but the Pirates defense will keep them grounded and Bryan Spakowicz will sail through the Pewaukee D to keep Pewaukee undefeated.

#6 Brodhead-Juda (4-0) vs Palmyra-Eagle (3-1) - Taylor Dane gets it done on both sides of the ball for Palmyra-Eagle, and because of Dane's ability to make big plays the Panters could pull the upset, but Brodhead Juda's ground game is just to ostrong, look for the Cardinals to fly past the Panthers keeping their record clean.

#7 McFarland (4-0) @ Jefferson (3-1) - This one is a toss up. Spartan Alec Carr is the real deal, while the Eagles have a very balanced attack. Forced to pick only one, I will say Carr will lead the Spartans to victory, much like Johnny Drama did with the Vikings.

#8 Northwestern (4-0) vs Bloomer (4-0) - The Blackhawks of Bloomer are led by do-it-all QB Alex Koehler and Mr. Big Play Malcom Wankel, but the Tigers' offensive line are the key to the ground game that will be too much for Bloomer. The Tigers' running game probably won't be stopped until Monday morning when they have to return to class.

#9 Colby @ Eau Claire Regis(4-0) - because the Hornets have Adam Essellman, Ramblers lose.

Here is where the rest of the biggest and best from the Medium Division schools are playing

1. Kewaskum (4-0) vs Waupun (1-3)
2. Pewaukee (4-0) vs Brown Deer (4-0)
3. Fond du Lac Springs (4-0) vs Kettle Moraine Luth. (3-1)sat.
3. Lancaster (4-0) @ Prairie du Chein (3-1)
5. Big Foot (4-0) @ Clinton (0-4)
6. Brodhead-Juda (4-0) vs Palmyra-Eagle (3-1)
7. McFarland (4-0) @ Jefferson (3-1)
8. Northwestern (3-0) vs Bloomer (4-0)
9. Colby (4-0) @ Eau Claire Regis (4-0)
10. Kewaunee (4-0) @ Wrightstown (2-2)

~ Games of the Week ~ Small Schools ~

#8 DeSoto (4-0) vs Belmont (3-1) - Jordan Farrey and Ethan Steinhoff have been big for the Belmont Braves, but the Dylans will prove to be too much (Tully & Vasser) and the Pirates of De Soto will remain unbeaten.

#9 Burlington Catholic Central (2-1) vs Shoreland (3-1) -  Shoreland has gotten off to a good start, but look for the Hilltoppers to blow the Pacers off the starting line - Multi-talented QB Brian Fliess will have a huge day on the ground and in the air, Catholic Central wins big.

Here is where the rest of the biggest and best from the Small Division schools are playing

1. Stratford (3-0) @ Fall Creek (1-3)
2. Edgar (3-0) vs Auburndale (0-4)
3. Gilman (3-0) vs Greenwood (0-4)
4. Potosi  (3-0) vs Cassville (0-4)
5. Shiocton (3-0) vs Bonduel (2-2)
6. Darlington (3-0) vs Cuba City (2-2)
7. Eau Claire Regis (3-0) vs Colby (4-0)
8. DeSoto (3-0) vs Belmont (3-1)
9.  Burlington Catholic Central  (2-1) vs Shoreland (3-1)
10. Flambeau (4-0) @ Northwood/SolonSprings (2-2)
