Welcome to my 2008 MLB season blog. Personally I'm not a huge fan of blogs. The world was bad enough when people just tried to jam their opinions down your throat while at the bubbler at work or school. Now everyone with an internet connection feels compelled to publish their every musing on any and all issues ad nauseam. I like my opinions just as everyone agrees with their own, but I have no impulse to believe that my every thought should be scrutinized and fleshed out by everyone else. I know baseball pretty well but I never pretend to have all the answers. Plus we have to be realistic in knowing that everything I write here is going to come back to me on bus rides, airplanes, and clubhouses from the people inside the game.
Nice disclaimer to open this year's blog, eh? I don't mean to say that we can't have some fun here, just that I don't plan to climb onto a soap box and bellow every day. I am not sure exactly in what all directions this space will take in the coming days and months, but I do plan to make it more interactive than Powell-centric. I want your emails and input on Sportsbubbler, the Brewers, me, my opinions, MLB, and anything else that occurs to you. I am not by nature politically correct so I apologize in advance for any positions I take which offend you. I am not going to sit here and rip my bosses or business associates, but I won't just praise them either. What I write I mean, that much I can promise. As an uneducated lawyer, I love a good debate and I would love to have some in here.
I believe they have set up a link so you can email me, and I am assuming you will be able to join in the discussion after each blog entry I publish. While you should not count on me answering your emails personally, you can count on me reading every one of them thoughtfully and responding in this space to those which I feel contribute to the discussion or prompt a new discussion. I will also read all the post-blog responses and will likely respond to those conversations on a regular basis also. I am inclined to have some sort of "Email of the Week"-type of contest but am not sure if I can guilt the Journal muckity-mucks into coughing up a prize. Initially the prize will have to be something along the lines of my undying admiration.
I am writing to you from Spring Training in Phoenix and will keep you updated on unfolding events, but I don't expect too many great storylines in Arizona this year. We all know this is a very good Brewers' team. I just can't wait to see the regular season get started to see what the Brewers do about taking care of unfinished business. If you are looking for a title or theme to the '08 Brewers, that one is as good as any that I can think of: Unfinished Business. If you followed the team last year, you know exactly about what I am talking. If you didn't follow the team in '07, welcome aboard and hang on for the ride!
