This may surprise a lot of people, but the Brewers have become one of the best road teams in the National League. You heard right. Only three teams in the league have more road wins than Milwaukee heading into play Thursday. No matter what happens this afternoon, Milwaukee will return home for a long homestand and the All-Star break with no worse than a .500 record for this tough, ten-day trip. The last two victories here in Phoenix have been most impressive. The defense has been really good and the team has executed solid fundamental baseball to grab two close wins against the Western leaders.
The Brewers' formidable mound opponent today is Brandon Webb, possibly the best pitcher in the game. Buster Olney did a nice story on Webb for ESPN The Magazine. You can check it out HERE.
Mike Cameron had one of his best games of the year yesterday, coming up with two huge late-inning hits to lead the Brewers to the comeback win over Arizona in game three of the series. I caught up with him before today's game. Give it a listen HERE.
Game two's key hero was Mike Rivera. I asked him how in the world he can stay hot when he sits on the bench for sometimes more than a week at a time. His answers are HERE.
It was nice to see Chris Capuano, who is rehabbing well after undergoing his second Tommy John surgery earlier this season. Cappy was all smiles despite the bum elbow because he has used the down time to get engaged. I talked to him about the operation and his future outlook, and you can hear all about it HERE.
