Finding Fault With Favre Late In The Season

After the Jets were knocked off by the San Francisco 49ers, their second loss in a row, the New York media is starting to question Favre, his late season capability and his age.  Here's some excerpts;

There have been moments, dotted across the autumn, when it seemed Brett Favre could defy time, not only in performance but outlook.

There were times - after Arizona, after New England, after Tennessee - when you would have sworn he was 29 again, an impish glimmer in his eye, a bulletproof shield around his body.

And there have been other days, like yesterday, days when you see him limp in the locker room and wonder if he's going to make it to the shower stall, much less the next practice back home in Jersey. It isn't just that he looks 59 in these moments; he simply looks beaten, and hurt, and exhausted.

Just nine days ago, he was a reborn prince, the deliverer of the Jets to heights unknown. Now he looked like a 39-year-old man badly in need of a Bud Light.

Bill, your a sorry sight for human eyes. You along with the three blind mice need to be fired. You jump off the favre bandwagon when the blind mice let Brett go. If Brett was with us today we WOULD definately be going to the playoffs! Brett wanted to play in GB and you know it. I hope he wins the superbowl so all you naysayers can eat what you dish out. Later jerk-off.

Who cares what Brett Favre is doing? Isn't that the line unit? Why would anyone care about that old washed up QB? You lead the charge to run Brett out of town instead of letting him play, which is what the FANS wanted..but who cares what the fans want, and if you don't believe they wanted him back your full of crap, they did. BTW I thought the Pack was publicly owned...guess not, disgraceful.

You're not fooling anyone, Michaels.  Your repeated bashing of Favre a not-so-transparent ploy to take the heat off GB's sorry-ass management team.

Why not talk about Aaron Rodgers' repeated chokes at the end of games?

Not on TT's PR agenda, eh?

Yo Unit,

I listen to you most every week on the Packers radio network.  This blog however i have to disagree with you.  Look at the Green Bay Packers roster this year and the one that went 13-3 and a overtime away from the Super Bowl.  Who is the biggest ingrediant missiing?  Oh #4 from Southern Mississippi Quarterback Brett Favre!  We should atleast be 4 games better and winning the N.F.C. north title and on to the playoffs.  Aaron Rodgers hasn't shown us anything to tell us he can win a close game.  The Jets are 8-5 tied for first in a wide open A.F.C right now.  I'm cheering for Brett Favre.  I hope he wins the MVP for the fourth time which he is in the voting for.  They win the last three he plays well and gets them in he may win the league MVP.  Meanwhile the Pacikers are going to be sitting at home watching there future hall of fame quarterback atleast trying to get to the Super Bowl

Correct me if I am wrong, but isnt this article written by the New York media? I think Bill is just posting it to state facts! After seeing the Jets luckily pull one out of the hat against the Bills(thanks to the Bills inept QB) the Jets won in spite of Brett Favre at QB, not because of him. Brett should truly be thanked for a   GREAT career in Green Bay and was INSTRUMENTAL in getting the Packers back to the promise land. But he is not the QB that will get a team to another Super Bowl as he demonstrated not only last year but in years before that. With a defense as pathetical as this years Packers, saying Brett would have made a difference this year is ridiculous!

To add- I wish Brett nothing but the best with the Jets and without a doubt will go down in history as one of the best to ever play the game! Sure it would have been nice to see Brett and the Packers never part ways, but when he is giving his induction speech at Canton hopefully most of this rift will have blown over and the 16 years that he was here will be celebrated as he goes into the hall as a PACKER! Sadly the business side of professional sports is making it rarer to see the great ones play with one team their entire careers! Go Brett and go PACKERS!

To bad Brian that both you and Billy are wrong. Michaels even stated a couple months ago that getting Packer media credentials are almost impossible and if you says anything ill about management, there goes your credential. It would be nice to see him get a pair, and give some unbiased reports. If what he says is true, then anyone reporting on the Packers will have a slanted view, especially when it comes to anything negative about Rodgers, or anything positive about Brett. Favre got screwed by the Packers plain and simple, now it is time for TT and MM to go down in flames.

The NY Jets should praise Jesus that they wound up with Fav-re; their team sucked last year.

As for the Pack's problems, it's pretty clear we have a few mentally retarted people on the sidelines calling plays, and a few mannequins posing as defensive players.

Big Unit:   I sent you an email after last Sunday's loss to the Jag Bags 12/14.   I told you that Ted, Mark Murphy and Mike Mc Carthy all should get the short hair cut.   You obviously are drinking the TT kool-aid along with my 36 year old(younger) brother and was perfectly OK with kicking #4 to the curb and starting the Aaron Rodgers era in '08.  I knew that you would NOT read it on air even though there were no expletives whatsoever in the message.   You definitely are TOO arrogant to admit that following the PR media agenda of TT is the wrong thing given the way this HAS all shaken out.  I have been to 4 of the 5 green package games this season and have seen it with my own eyes and not just on TV.  This reeks just like the St. Louis Rams situation as they went into the '08 season w/o an overhaul of their front office and head coach after their awful '07 season.   They did just what you proposed on Packer's OT 12/14 and just fired some assistants and kept Jay Zygmunt GM and Scott Linehan as the HC for '08.  If the 3 Wise Men return for '09 they WILL repeat the same fate that befell the Rams in '08.  I'm not, as you can tell from the address, living in Wisconsin and don't here the same message every day from the same beat writers that cover the Pack daily.    I have listened to you when you were a guest via phone on ESPN NEWS and they wanted your take on the situation back in August.   You were very quick to inject the Ted spin immediately when given the forum and not even questioning there motives and how they were going about getting there mission accomplished.   Obviously, you Mr. Michael's are not very objective in your reporting.  I'm speaking for the silent majority of GB Packer fans that don't live in Wisconsin.  You Sir are dead wrong.   WE wanted #4 to be the QB for the Green and Gold and NOT the Gotham Green in 2008.

I remember when Wolf traded for Farve. After a few games fans thought wolf was nuts and some wanted his job. Now Wolf and Farve are football Gods in Titletown. I for one was a Farve fan from day one and told people one day he'll win a Super Bowl. Many said no way could Farve lead a team to a Super Bowl, but he did....twice! Now people are crying that he's gone. I'm not. Last year the Packers got to 13-3 by being lucky in many of those games in which they could have easily lost. Look at last year's games at the end of the season. The packers played their worst football especially the one at Soldier Field. Then the playoff game against the Giants which I saw a very cold Brett who did not enjoy being in the cold. Yes the Packers were one game away from the Super Bowl last year, but do you remember how they didn't make it to the big game? Farve threw an interception in which Driver was completely covered by the D-back. Closer look at the play showed Jenning to Brett's left wide open, James Jones down the middle wide open, and Grant 5 yards right in front of Brett also wide open. That was a bonehead play on Brett's part and the reason that was the packers last play of season and why the Giants got to the Super Bowl. So yea Brett was part of the reason the Pack went 13-3 and almost made it to the Super Bowl, but he's also the reason they didn't made it.

I love Brett, but he's not the guy he was back in the mid 90's. Last winter showed it playing in the cold. Did anyone catch the Jet game where he threw 4 INT's? The fans booed him big time. The NY fans are happy the Jets are doing well, but the Jets defense is a big reason they're winning, not just Brett Farve. Even Jet WR Cotchery said Brett's arm isn't any stronger than the juggs machine. The Jets owners were happy to land Farve for one big reason. They are in the process of funding a new stadium and with the sales of #4 jerseys to Jet and Packer fans, Jet management is all smiles.

Like I said, I'm a Farve fan and hated to see him leave, but even to me the writing was on the wall last year, Farve was on a decline. As for the trade, no player is immune to being traded or moved to a different team. Even the great Wayne Gretzky got traded and played for other teams. It's the nature of the business in any sport.

Would Farve have taken this year's team to the playoffs again this year? I highly doubt it, the defense sucks so bad, no hall of fame QB could get this team to a winning record.

Yo,  RickyV34......What have you been smoking????  You must have gone to the same Holistic medicine classes that #34 Ricky Williams went to a few years ago that got him kicked out of the NFL!   I was at the NFC championship game on 1/20/2008 v. NYG.  My father and I were sitting in Section 103 (North end zone).   I was NOT sitting at home listening to the crap you had to see and listen to the same old Fox announcers Joe Buck and Troy Aikman telling you that same old #%^& that Favre always does and the gunslinger in him did that.    It was a lousy play call by McCarthy.  True he had other options on that play that were open; however, the primary option was to Driver.  The NYG were squatting on the out routes all day as they dared Favre to go long.   I suppose you were out getting a hit when Favre hit Driver with the pass for the long TD in the 1st half.  That play to Driver begged for a double move to have the corner bite and Favre to go long again to Driver.  But in your defense,  FOX would not show the right angles for you to see that development.  You only get the tight shots on TV.  Also, I was at KC last Novemeber when he did make the play on a long pass to Jennings to put the Pack ahead to stay in the 4th quarter.   Rodgers has YET to do that given the chances he has had this season.  Lest you forget game 3 of the '92 season when Favre did come in for the injured Majik man and led them to the win in the last minute of that game v. Cincy?  That was in his 1st season with GB and his second in the NFL. Again,  you and the Big Unit are very quick to point out a bad game and say SEE that is why he had to go.   You forgot to mention the week 4 game v. the Arizona Cardinals this season when he threw for six(6) TD's.   That I did see down here on the local CBS affiliate showed that game.  This is against a team that has won their division and will be in the playoffs.  Everybody knows that Gretzky went away from Edmonton because his wife Janet Jones was a hollywood star and didn't want to live in Canada.  Maybe you didn't know that.   Now, you do.  It had nothing with him being a malcontent with the Oilers or that he and Peter Pocklington(owner) couldn't see eye to eye and he had to be moved over a personality conflict between the two of them.

BTW uh..... #4 was chosen by his peers for the Pro Bowl this week.   Again,  maybe you were out taken another hit and didn't get that news flash.

One bad game? How about the Chicago game last december? It was cold and Farve wasn't very good. Nice recall of the NFC game. No I was not there, but I did see the endzone photo taken during that play and it was all plain as day. Farve did not check down and driver was on a hook pattern that the D-Back read perfectly because Farve never took his eyes off Driver. Farve of all QBs should have checked down his targets. All other targets were wide open. No I don't smoke, but for all those fans crying about him not being here, I'm telling you, I am a fan of him, but even he couldn't get this team to a winning record. Players come and go, be happy he's on a better team and not on this year's crappy team. Get over it!

First of alll he is quoting what other media outlets are saying. Second, look at a state comparison of Favre, Rodgers, and Pennington. Favre is the worst of the 3 in most major categories... My question, why is Favre in the pro-bowl and Pennington is not? Pennington took a 1-15 team and put them in the middle of the playoff race and yet he gets no love. It seems like the Jets might want Pennington back. Why would the Packers want Favre, Rodgers has played better than him all year.

It is looking more and more like the Jets won't make the playoffs despite being in one of the weakest conferences in the NFL without Tom Brady. Think about it the Jets, Dolphins and Bills all in a playoff hunt what a joke.

Anyone catch the Jet/Seahawk game today? In the last four games, Brett has thown one TD and six INT's. In the last seven games that were 34 degrees or colder, Brett is 1-6. Hey,  Rickyv34......   You must also have NFL network on either your cable system or DSS !   I must have heard an echo because that is the same knowledge that Rich Eisen just spit out.   And you thought that you were doing your homework and fooling everyone that would read your blog.    Oh,  and BTW stop with the Adam Shefter quotes also about #4's future after this season.   He also ran that out on NFL Network.    See, Rickyv34  he and that phony Jay Glazer of Fox are Chris Mortenson wannabees.  He, of the Favre calling up Millen and the Lions to give them info. on offensive plays the Pack likes to run in certain situations.  They love to run out those things to "scoop" the guys that have been doing this thing for a long time just to get noticed for their next (bigger) network job.

Oh,  and BTW you should check your "photo" again of the pass intended for Driver.  It wasn't a hook (or button hook)  as it was called in the olden days.  It was an out( or a square out) pattern that Driver ran on that ill fated play.   See Rickyv34, a hook pattern is run inside the numbers where an out pattern ends up near the sidelines and definitely outside the numbers as the receiver needs room to get separation from the defensive back. Tell you what Ricky.....the StL. P-D sponsors and runs an ad in their paper that's for FB newcomers called Football 101.  They have held this night seminar for 3 or 4 years now.  You get the head coach of the St. Louis Rams and some of the players for a 2 to 3 hour night session where the explain the basic strategy and rules to folks that are new to the game and you also get other things with it like a ticket to an upcoming Rams game.  I'm sure that they will have it again for next season.   I'll make sure that I let you know next season when they are going to have it ,so that you can get signed up.

Hey Ricky...........   LIKE I SAID.   STOP with the nonsense from the NFL Network.   Wish you could come up with something original.   Maybe you living in Wisconsin; you are nothing but inundated by the print, TV, and talk radio up their trashing #4 since TT sent him to the Jets that you and your kind have been brainwashed on the Mark Murphy/TT PR agenda also.   I have the former Inside the NFL (HBO)correspondent Brian Burwell from the STL P-D to read each day that can tell me the truth from the fiction that you get up in the Cheese state.  He got his start long before the pretenders like Jay Glazer and Adam Shefter even thought about getting into their line of work.

I'm telling you Ricky its hard to share any knowledge with folks like you who just close their minds and just because they don't have anything original to say, they just start with labels like geeks and old fogies.  Someday friend,  you too will be too old to play slow pitch softball all day long because your body will start talking back to you and you will have to find other activities to occupy your time.   BTW since you don't have the time to go to "class", maybe I can just send you the DVD for the holidays on Football 101 so you can learn the difference between a hook pattern and a down and out pattern.

Oh yes and Ricky if you check my first email on this topic , this just in............the Rams GM Jay Zygmunt just resigned his post from the team.  So,  that means that both the HC and GM  from the start of the '08 season are gone.   We shall see if the Pack do follow the Rams course in '09 and just fire assistants if they will be as pathetic as the '08 Rams were.  Or will they do the right thing and clean house with MM, TT, and MM relieved of their duties?

Let me know if you want that tape in DVD or VHS format?

Mr. Twian, I guessed you were from out of state. Here in Green Bay we hated Farve being traded, but as the season has gone along, we are seeing that the Packers would be terrible with or without Farve. We have also seen enough of our defense giving up 4th quarter yardage leading to losses. No I'm not a huge TT fan, the drafting of Harrell should be enough evidence on that.

As for your comment on me and slowpitch softball, guess again. Since 14, I have played fastpitch softball and also coached. Position is pitcher and have pitched against teams that have gone to world tournaments and done well although not winning against them. Those teams are loaded with the best players from Australia, New Zealand and Canada and never got blown out and always kept our team close. At 41, I still pitch a good fastball, rise and drop so don't give me that slowpitch crap, to me slowpitch is for players with no fastpitch talent.

It's been fun debating with you Mr. Twian, but I will be away for Christmas and New Years. So don't be sad that I don't reply for a while and don't go postal when Miami beats the Jets. No I don't need DVD's on Football 101, I've played football, but I can send you some info on how to windmill pitch. And no fastpitch is not just a woman's sport, it was a men's sport long before woman started playing. Ever hear of Eddie Feigner?  Happy Holidays man!

Hey Ricky.....I'm glad to know that you are a real "baller".  Yes, I have heard of the "King and His Court".   I did go to Warner Park in Madison, WI. with my mother and father back in the late '70's to watch Mr. Feigner and his other 3 members play an exhibition game.  It was a hoot!

Yes Ricky, I'm aware that Kimberly, Kaukauna, and Little Chute are hot beds for fastpitch softball.   No, I don't need any instructional videos on the mechanics of windmill, slingshot, nor figure 8 softball pitching.  But if you've got any demonstration vidoes with Jenny Finch, I'm interested(What a hotty!).   See Ricky,  my 3rd cousin is Tom Raimer now living in the Cedarburg/Slinger area.  He's in his mid 50's now. But when he was in his late teens and early 20's he was one of the best windmill fastpitch pitchers around.  His bread and butter pitch was the rise ball.  That was his "out" pitch.  It was very hard to lay off his riser as he had such a smooth delivery and no way you could pick up something to tip off that that pitch was coming.  See, I'm going tell you that I would try to catch him in the backyard at his house after school.  I can honestly tell you that he would never cut loose and throw as hard as he could as he would have seriously hurt me if I had missed one of those pitches as I would have been only 8 or 9 years old at the time.  He also had me try to throw when I was a youngster.  It was very difficult plus I didn't have a brother to catch. As you well know that not too many are naturals at it and it takes lots of practice.  I also got to watch a very good pitcher who threw windmill style by the name of Cecil Pettick.  He stayed in great shape and pitched very well into his late 40's.  Tom's father played and then managed him and his other 2 brothers in FP leagues in Portage.   Tom then moved onto other teams in that league as well as several travelling teams such as the Farm Tavern and Bowling Green.  He also played with a fellow named Bob Tomlinson from down the road in Poynette.  I know that you have to have heard of him if you are indeed a fastpitch player.   Bobby was a good stick with some power and threw around good leather as a 3rd sacker.   He played for Sarbacker's Bar for a number of years.  It was managed by a man named Vincent "Dick" Smith.  They had some younger players that played with them.   In the mid 70's was the begining of the end of FP in Portage.   It was then that the Portage Park and Rec Dept started a summer slow pitch league.   The younger guys on that team would play their league game (early 6:30 or so) and then go to play a late game in the slow pitch league in order to play with their buddies their age.   Mr. Smith would say...aw why do you fellas have to go over there and play that pussyball all the time ?  Pretty soon the guys got too old to play fastpitch and the younger people had nothing to do with the game, so it died.   I always called it "no pitch".    I'm sorry about the slowpitch reference in the above email as I can see Ricky that you are a REAL man.

Enough for now on fastpitch softball.  I'm coming to the Badger state this weekend for belated Christmas and then on Sunday, my father, brother, and I are going to the "Tundra" to see if the Lions can indeed be the 1st winless team since the league expanded the regular season to 16 games starting in 1978.  It sure would be an inditement on MM and TT if this team laid down like a dog and keep the Lions from their date with infamee.  You know I will be keeping an eye on the NYJ v. Miami game.   Even if the Jets don't gag again this weekend, it probably won't matter as I can't see NE getting a tight collar playing the Bills.

Seasons Greeting to you and all the best in 2009!!

Later.......
