Newly signed first round draft choice B.J. Raji met the media for the first time on Friday. "Raji said it was 'tough' knowing that his future teammates were sweating on the practice field without him," reports Bill Huber of Packer Report. "He received encouragement from running back Ryan Grant, who had a contract issue last offseason, as well as several members of the rookie class — a group that included fellow first-rounder Clay Matthews III." I think everybody wants to put this little episode to rest and see Raji get down to football.

Jason Wilde of the Wisconsin State Journal says the defense is going to the star of the show in tonight's game. "According to several players, Capers has more than 100 defenses in his playbook — 'Let’s just say we have more plays than the offense,' safety Atari Bigby said — and during the regular season, he will put a portion of those defenses into the game plan for that week, based on the opponent," writes Wilde. "Then, he’ll use other defenses the next week." It will be interesting to see all the different looks the Packers defense gives the offense, who's blitzing, who's dropping into coverage, etc.

Linebackers Brandon Chillar is excelling in the new 3-4 scheme because of the blitz-heavy defense he used to play in St. Louis reports Lori Nickel of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "Chillar said the new 3-4 scheme and playing the 'Mack' inside linebacker fits him well because some of the coverages and trapping patterns resemble what he played in St. Louis, where coordinator Jim Haslett relied heavily on the blitz," writes Nickel. "Chillar picked up on the tendencies right away when the Packers made the switch and began working in the spring, giving him a jump." I'm beginning to believe more and more that Chillar might be best suited to play the inside on the 3-4. He's dependable, and you need guys like that who are going to be chasing down all the tackles. And blitzing from the inside may suit him better than rushing from the outside.

Mike Vandermause of the Green Bay Press-Gazette says all the fullbacks are really getting along despite only two jobs among the three of them in camp. “There’s really no tension between us,” Quinn Johnson is quoted as saying in the article. “They help me with everything I want to know as far as the plays, as far as where I have to be at. It’s pretty much a great camaraderie.”

ESPN's Kevin Seifert sheds a little more light on tight end Tory Humphrey's injury situation. "Technically, Humphrey could play for the Packers this season if they subsequently waive him and then wait six weeks, but that type of roster move rarely occurs," writes Seifert. I expect the Packers to waive him. They just can't continue to wait and wait for him on injured reserve. That way, if either Donald Lee or Jermichael Finley suffer a season ending injury mid-season, it's possible the Packers could call on Humphrey if he's still available.

Brandon of Acme Packing Company has been doing a five-part interview with Bill Barnwell of Football Outsiders. Barnwell provides some insight in what made Daryn Colledge probably the best offensive lineman on the Packers last season. "I don't think we can safely say one way or another which Chad Clifton to expect in 2009," said Barnwell. "He allowed just about a league average number of sacks (5.5) for a left tackle, but Daryn Colledge's 4.5 sacks allowed at guard probably had something to do with giving Clifton a little more help than normal."

Aaron Rodgers' no. 12 is the best selling jersey at the Packer Pro Shop. "Wide receiver Donald Driver’s No. 80 is the second most popular, she said, while the jersey for running back Ryan Grant (No. 25), linebacker Nick Barnett (No. 56), wide receiver Greg Jennings (No. 85) and linebacker A.J. Hawk (No. 50) are among the other best-sellers," writes Tony Walter of the Press-Gazette.

If you're going to today's game, you can get free autographs from Packers alum Mike Flanagan. "On Saturday, Aug. 15, prior to the game from 5 to 5:25 p.m., Flanagan will be visiting with fans and signing autographs in the Lambeau Field Atrium and then be doing the same in the Tundra Tailgate Zone from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.," the Packers said in a press release.

The Packers gave Wrightstown High School a grant for $250,000 for improvements to their athletic facilities. Wow. That's a nice little sum of money for a small high school.

Five things to watch tonight from the Press-Gazette, Journal Sentinel and State Journal.
