Here what I'm tweeting about:

1. Prediction: Outside linebacker Aaron Kampman only plays in the nickel package on defense against the San Francisco 49ers.

2. Jarrett Bush did
a surprisingly good job blitzing this past Sunday against the Cowboys.
I wish I could say the same about his pass coverage.

3. A.J. Hawk has earned his spot back in the nickel defense even when Brandon Chillar is fully healthy. #Packers
Join the craze.

1. With Jamon Meredith out of the picture, could T.J. Lang be the left tackle of the future with Clifton gone next year? #Packers #NFL

2. Prediction: Jarrett Bush will be cut when Atari Bigby gets healthy once again. #Packers #NFL

3. Minus the penalty
for holding, Brad Jones looked really good on special teams, especially
in coverage. Very active. Always around the ball.
Join the craze. blue chips, red chips and cow chips is our way of analyzing each game's
winners and losers for the Packers. So without further ado...

Johnny Jolly -- It's almost impossible to play better on a single series than Johnny Jolly did on the Rams' first drive of the game. On the first play from scrimmage, the big defensive end dropped St. Louis star running back Steven Jackson for a loss. He later sniffed out a shovel pass to Jackson on a third down, which forced St. Louis into a field goal attempt. And then Jolly blocked the ensuing field goal. On top of that, he recovered a fumble deep in Rams territory that set up a Packers field goal. Jolly also batted down a pass as well.

Donald Driver -- The old man still has it. Just when it was looking like the Rams might continue to shut down Greg Jennings like the Bengals did a week earlier, Driver busted out with a couple big time receptions that put the Packers in great field position. Driver finished just short of the century mark with 96 yards on four receptions. But there was none bigger than Drivers' 46-yard reception made with one hand, which drew a penalty. Add a touchdown catch and it was a pretty good day at the office for Double D.

Aaron Rodgers -- There were some instances when it appeared Rodgers held too long onto the ball, which either resulted in a sack or being hit, but other than that, Rodgers was efficient. The quarterback threw for a workmanlike 269 yards on only 13 completions for a 129.6 passer rating. Rodgers was not intercepted yesterday, and he hasn't been intercepted on the entire season for that matter, which is a really big deal. The more the Packers limit their turnovers, the better chance they'll have at winning. It's also been nice to see Rodger be a little bit of a running threat converting some key first downs and scrambling for a touchdown late in the game.

John Kuhn -- Kuhn has some issues as a lead blocker, but there was no better way to silence his critics than with Sunday's performance. Kuhn proved to those fans calling for Ted Thompson to cut the fullback back during training camp that he can do some things with the ball in his hands. He had a touchdown on both his only carry and only catch of the game. Credit goes to Mike McCarthy for the playcall on Kuhn's touchdown run that was set up by Ryan Grant and the entire offensive line blocking one way and Kuhn countering the other way.

James Jones -- There was supposed to be some battle between Jones and Jordy Nelson during the training camp over who would be considered the team's No. 3 wide receiver. After a decent preseason, most thought the job was won by Jones. Now that the regular season is upon us, Jones has failed to take advantage of opportunities presented to him. With a drop against the Bears in the season opener and another yesterday against the Rams, Jones has been passed by Nelson as the No. 3 receiving option.

Jarrett Bush -- I used to be one of Bush's top apologists, but I can't defend him any longer. He's a pretty good special teams player when he's not committing penalties, but this is getting ridiculous. Including yesterday's flag for holding on punt return, Bush now has three penalties on the season, all on special teams. He is flat out hurting the team more than he is helping them.

Three tweets 9.17.09

I'll be providing three thoughts about the Green Bay Packers per day on Twitter. Here what I'm tweeting about:

1. If Atari Bigby's injured & Brandon Underwood's inactive, Jarrett Bush's value goes up a notch this week.

2. FYI: Josh Sitton is the backup long snapper for the #Packers.

3. Question: Will #Packers right tackle Breno Giacomini be active this week for the Begals game? Your thoughts...

When trying to piece together the 53-man roster, I found the hardest cuts coming in the secondary.

Heading into training camp, I wouldn't have said that defensive back was one of the deepest positions. Of course, maybe it isn't. Maybe it's not all that deep.

While attempting to predict the 53-man roster, I listed among the "last three out," Jarrett Bush and Aaron Rouse. The fact that they may be the 54th and 55th best players on the roster isn't really all that flattering.

Still, that doesn't make the possibility of cutting either of them any easier on the Packers. The team has some tough decisions to make amidst the secondary.

Just yesterday I tabbed Danny Lansanah as the "last player in." However, thanks to our wonderful readers here, I'm starting to be swayed toward keeping Bush instead of Lansanah.

According to Railbird Central regular reader "Satori" who said in the comments, "In the Capers scheme, he likes to use a safety in the dime package, meaning he needs 3 safeties on game day.

So, its unlikely they will go with only 3 on the roster.

"

As many critics as Bush has, he has dual value as both a cornerback and a safety. In addition, he's faster and may be a better special teams player than Lansanah.

Rouse, meanwhile, hasn't displayed the consistency to be able to become an everyday player. But outside of Collins, Bigby and Smith, he's the next best pure safety on the Packers.

Charlie Peprah is another tough cut as a player that's made the 53-man roster for the past three years.

And Joe Porter's play is forcing general manger Ted Thompson and head coach Mike McCarthy to make some very difficult choices. The cornerback's strength and speed combination has become a very valuable asset throughout this preseason. Did anyone notice that he led the team in tackles against the Bills?

It's a possibility that Porter would be picked up by another team if he was cut. Wide receiver JaRon Harris even said on Packer Transplants that Porter was a player that impressed him. I would not be surprised if Porter somehow found his way onto the roster in a surprise move.

Everyone knew the Packers had a good trio of cornerbacks in Charles Woodson, Al Harris and Tramon Williams. And they had a good young complement of safeties with Nick Collins and Atari Bigby. But things are looking better and deeper with each passing day.
