If you thought 32 points was a coming out party for Brandon Jennings you only had to wait a couople of days until the true party to come around...
On an awesome Saturday night, in a glorious sport-silled weekend, Our Bucks shined through. It's not every day that records are broken in the state of WI. And it's not every day that a record of Kareem Abdul-Jabar's is broken either. On a night where we saw most of Our Bucks struggle for 3 quarters, Brandon Jennings took the ball and made himself the new leader of our team.
At the end of the first 12 minute period, Brandon Jennings had ZERO points. Andrew Bogut did his part to help make up for it, but it looked like this was going to be a long game for the home fans in attendance. The Warriors have too many good individual players to be as bad of a team as they had been. Stephen Jackson was not backing down from anyone. He was dueling.
The second period came around and Jennings started to get in on the action. Luc Mbah A Moute was beginning to establish himself as a guy who was going to pick up the slack for his team mates. He was chasing down boards, causing headaches for every Warrior, and had his much hyped jumped working. Bogut played well with Tenacious defense, but Our Bucks still found themselves down 49-57 to the NBA's version of a Tennessee Williams play.
In the third quarter of action, Our Bucks and The Young Money took over. Brandon went for 29 points alone to fuel 41 points for the team. The prince did his part to grab boards and keep plays alive. It was a quarter of basketball the likes of which had never been seen.
Brandon Jennings didn't back down in the fourth, and neither did the rest of Our Bucks. Charlie Bell stepped up his D in the fourth, and played a huge roll in this quarter. The man from Flint hit some big shots, and had an excellent steal. The Prince stayed tough, and Bogut let none pass in the lane. Brandon Jennings stared down the competition, and I'm pretty sure that after Jennings nailed a late three followed by two clutch free throws, Steph Curry cried a single tear. Jennings was on fire.
Jennings finished with a line of 55/5/5. His dominance was amazing to watch, He is the Wonder Boy.
Bogut continued his Nasty streak going for 19/11/2. He earned the nick name Nasty-man.
Charlie Bell continues to stand strong in his replacement of Michael Redd.
The Prince didn't have a flashy line, but 8/12/3 with 2 steals makes me happy.
These four players combined to have a +44 differential, and blasted forth in FOUR part harmony over the Warriors.
Scott Skiles had some mighty kind words about the Wonder Boy...
“I was in a game when Michael (Jordan) had over sixty once. I don’t know exactly what to say. On a night where we didn’t play very well; we weren’t ready defensively. He (Jennings) felt we needed to be picked up and we went to our pick-and-roll game and spread the floor and he got hot, again. He had 55 in three quarters; he didn’t score in the first quarter. A very impressive performance for anybody, let alone a rookie in his seventh game.”
As for the rookie, he was shaking with excitement in the locker room, and didn't even seem to want to talk about himself...
"Charlie Bell hit some big threes and (Andrew) Bogut is going to do his thing. I think everybody came out and contributed tonight. We played kind of bad in the first half so for us to come back out in the second half and get a big lead, it would have been a shame to lose that game.”
Other Notes from Saturday night, One of the greatest Sports nights of my life...
A good friend of mine was in from out of town. We decided to go out for dinner to watch everything that was on. He is a college football guy, and a UFC guy, and I am a Bucks guy, as you know.
We went to the Tilted Kilt. All of the TVs were split between football and UFC 105, I had to ask the management to get Our Bucks on one screen. They even brought me a speaker to listen to the game from our table, it was nice.
The food was good, and our waitress could have been considered aliteration in its finest form (inside joke). The third quarter was electric for Our Bucks. People started noticing.
By the time the fourth started, UFC 105's main event started. By 6 minutes into the 4th, no one cared. Everyone's eyes were on Our Bucks, More TV's turned to watch Jennings, The Prince, and Bogut take the game into their hands. The entire bar was cheering for Our Bucks. This just doesn't happen in Madison. When the game was over, the bar cheered. It was electric. Our Bucks pulled it out.
We left the Tilted Kilt, my friend left with the number of our waitress, so I decided he deserved a beer. We got to the next bar which was packed to watch the Cotto v Pacquio fight. We got a free beer because the keg ran out, and we watched the fight. I've never seen a bar so electric for a boxing match before. Cheers came over the crowd between each round. With each stiff right Pacquio delivered the crowd yelled louder. When the fight was called in the 12th, the crowd errupted.
It was a fantastic night for sports. The Badgers won earlier that day. We were less than 24 hours away from a convincing Packers win. My stomach was filled with tasty local beer. My friend's head was filled with dirty thoughts of a waitress with a fun name to say. A great night indeed. GO BUCKS
