My name is Shane, but on SportsBubbler.com you've seen me posting as Shaner. I am a Wisconsin sports fan.
Last week I emailed a question to Dan Walsh after a post in his Morning Coffee. It started like this: "I know many in this state don't cheer for the Bucks, or really even care about them, but shouldn't your site try to... I don't know... make them?"
After a few back and forth emails with Dan I decided that I should do my part. My thoughts are that I can only do so much. I live in Madison, where they don't even cover the Bucks most nights on the local news, and most of the local media newspapers and websites still have the old purple and pointy logo. I don't think everyone should care as much as I do, but most in Madison, and around the state don't care at all.

but at least they don't still have this guy, but it might be much cooler if they did
For a little background info on me, I'll open with this nugget. On my living room TV stand, there are four small statues. One is President Abraham Lincoln (who freed to slaves) and one is The Buddha (the enlightened one). The other two are bobble heads of Andrew Bogut (a master of fashion) & Sid Moncrief (the only reason Don Nelson has a job to this day). I had always cheered for Wisconsin sports, but became entranced by them when moved away and felt a need to connect with my home state. I am a lover of beer. I am an avid home-brewer, and I love craft brews. If you ever see me with a Miller Lite in my hand it means one of two things: 1. I'm really drunk or 2. I ran out of actual beer. You will never see me with anything made in St. Louis in my hand. -- I am all for sportsmanship. It is a lost part of sports; it has a place in this game going forward, and it needs to be talked about. I never cheered for MJ and I won’t ever be a fan of LeBron. I don't even like Tiger Woods. Cry babies and gloaters have no place in this blog, especially if they've never backed it up.
Last fall I was in Columbus, Ohio for a wedding. I met some people there who asked me what life was like in Wisconsin. I told them that we hold true to our ideals. We drink beer, we eat cheese, we keep our families close, and we love our sports teams. I told them I always cheer for the Packers, Brewers, and Bucks, but Our Bucks don't have that great of a following. None of the other nine people at the table knew who the Bucks were.
It was a sad moment in my life, but a realization. If people in our state barely care about the Bucks, why would anyone else? Herein lies the problem. The reality is that the Milwaukee Bucks are a team on the verge of leaving us. Our Bucks have constantly been the Underdog that no one in this state will cheer for. The Bradley Center only has a few years left, and public support is as low as it's ever been. This blog is devoted to the Bucks and the fans who haven't given up on them even when they let us down. But even more importantly, this blog is to make everyone else aware that there is still a professional basketball team in Milwaukee, and they are the Bucks. It's time for Wisconsinto realize it and be proud. I don't have experience writing blogs, but I love Our Bucks, and I want others to love them as well.
It's time to Take Back Our Bucks.
