What Would it Take?

WHAT WOULD IT TAKE?

For the past week, I have been blogging about Our Bucks. In the comments I have received and in conversations I hold with people everyday, one fact comes glaring through. People in Wisconsin hold a grudge like no one else. So let me make a bold statement...

Ray Allen is gone, it's time to get over it.

I don't like it. You don't like it. Everyone hated seeing "The Glove" come to Milwaukee and no one liked seeing our guy Ray in Seattle. The only people who thought it was a good idea were George Karl and Ernie G. The trade was bad for both teams, creating log jams at each player’s respective position. Our Bucks had one of the better PG's in the league with Sam "Phone Home" Cassell, but that wasn't good enough for George "The Sucker" Karl. The Bucks gave up one of their all time greats in Ray Allen and a whole lot more for half a season with one of the biggest Jackasses in the NBA, Gary Payton, and Desmond Mason.

The trades were not supposed to end with Payton that day. Several reports I've read said that Our Bucks petitioned the league to extend the deadline to finish a deal with the Knicks that would have sent Sam Cassell, who was now jammed out of his spot, for hometown boy, Milwaukee's-Best himself, Latrel Sprewell. This wouldn't have made up for the loss of Ray, but it would have kept some holding on. Our Bucks have never been the same, and neither have the fans. The fans gave up, and from that point on it seems as though Our Bucks had as well. Bad personnel decisions, worse records, blown draft picks, bad facilities, and pretty much the impending doom of Our Bucks in Milwaukee have driven the fans away.

Ray is stilled loved in Milwaukee. Probably more-so than any of Our Bucks who play today. When Ray comes back to town on Tuesday, March 9th, he will most likely receive the biggest ovation any player in the Bradley Center receives that year. It must feel really weird to be one of Our Bucks on a night when Ray comes to town.

So what would it take for Our Bucks to get back the support of the fans...

...Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages welcome to the era of Brandon Jennings ...

Brandon Jennings will make you like this team, and if not you, someone else. As I've said before, letting go of Ramon Sessions sucks, but getting Jennings was a great thing. Brandon Jennings is a man with many hats. Hailing originally from Compton, LA, California, he has fans on both sides of the country. In his junior year of high school, he transferred to the basketball factory known Oak Hill Academy on the East Coast. Not to mention he has international acclaim from his year in Italy. His name will be in the media for the simple fact that more athletes will start going "The Brandon Jennings Route" to the NBA until the broken system is fixed.

Brandon's exposure is about to become huge. He is the very first NBA player to have a sponsorship from Under Armor. Beside all of that, Brandon is fun to watch, and will be for some time. And on a side note, he's already been in half as many Hollywood movies as Ray Allen.

It's tru that Sessions was a fan favorite in Milwaukee, but Jennings will be a fan favorite in a lot of places. The people who have stuck with Our Bucks this long aren't going to stop being fans because of the loss of Sessions. To us, it's just another crappy call in a long line of them. Jennings brings moxy, and star power to this team. If WI won’t notice Jennings, someone will.

So my question to all of you is, what would it take?

Jennings is going to have to be Chris Paul or Derron Williams for the bucks to have a shot at being good this year.  If he's close or shows in 1-2 years he will be the next dominant PG, he could be the player WI fans hold onto.  He's too young to have that impact right away, but for a team to make a run, you need a PG.  I think it's smart they are going to start him right away.  Lets get it started.  I'll watch the 2nd half of games if they show they are going to keep it competitive and if they stay healthy.

For me, it'll take some time, mainly because we've wasted draft picks and stayed in neutral for so many years, and now we're very far behind the rest of the league. We've just been salary dumping to get rid of past mistakes, but in the process we loose too much for getting not enough back. We salary-dumped Simmons and had to include Yi, who while not looking like a stud player he was the previous 1st rd pick, for Jefferson who was good but a waste on a team that was obviously a few years away from anything. Then, this summer, we had to salary-dump Jefferson for nothing in return but bits and pieces we eventually cut or traded for nothing again.

The Jefferson debacle in-particular made my stomach turn, it was more proof that the Bucks have no sense of direction right now.

The original Jefferson trade was a bold move, it's true. Simmons was just awful,  it's very easy to get swept up in the most improved player award that he had won the season before.  Yi had to go.  He was just a stain,  I am not a Yi fan, and was never and Yi fan.  Tomorrow I will have a my Season preview post, and it will delve into the Jefferson trade this summer.  If anything, I am glad to hear that you are open to giving them a chance.

What it takes is a decent team that plays above .500 ball and puts up 100pts a game. Plain and simple, cut and dried.

Herb Kohl selling the team. No more absentee owners who can't run a basketball franchise, please.
