Some random thoughts on the game: A 158.33 QB rating for Aaron Rodgers, not too shabby. The first team offense should have played more that 1 down. McCarthy sticking to his game plan of one series after one play for the starters was just dumb. Ryan Grant has yet to do anything in the preseason. Brian Brohm should be eternally grateful for his $900,000 signing bonus, he'll never see that type of money again the way he is playing. Matt Flynn welcome to your new role as the #2 QB. Defense doesn't seem that great, they continue to give up big chunks of yards against the running game. So apparently there is a new rule in the NFL defenders can now push wide receivers out of bounds? Lame.
Packer Geeks have their 53 man roster predictions. They also wonder if the $900,000 signing bonus will keep Brohm at #2. Brats and Beer is happy the pretend season is over. He also came up with a great new nickname for Jon Ryan - “The Scramblin’ Canuck” That is a truly great nickname. Pack and Cheese has a nice recap. BrewTownBeat has two posts from Lambeau Field, here and here. Lance Allan gives his predictions on the 53 man roster. Daunte Culpepper is still willing to play for the Packers. Bleacher Report previews the NFC North. Still plenty of questions about the Packers roster.
And now for the Brewers......
Bugs and Cranks says you gots to chill. Give credit, where credit is due. I've been critical of Tom Haudricourt several times this season, but yesterday his response to the St. Louis Dispatch story and Albert Pujols, was dead on. Cute Sports tackles the issue and uses a great picture. BrewTownBeat gives STL a pretty good beatdown. Dave Bush has found his comfort zone. Nice job Brewers fans, 3 million tickets have been sold. The llama talks Yost bashing. ESPN wonders if the Brewers can put October on the calendar. BrewCrewBall takes a stab at the playoff roster.
We'll have three Brewers things posted later his morning. Prospect of the Week, Pirates Preview and the Polish Pickle gives an update on his end of season records prediction.
College Football Season is here.
5 things to be excited about. Badger offensive Lineman Gabe Carimi has added some weight in hopes of improving his game. Our Badger blogger is back with two posts from yesterday, here and here. Not surprisingly everybody and their mother expect the Badgers to beat Akron. Shocking. Our own Polish Pickle tackles the Badgers weak schedule. Badger Centric has a Big Ten Preview.
We have a Kevin Cosgrove sighting. Actually thanks to Kevin Cosgrove, former Packers assistant coach Bo Pelini has his first head coaching job, at Nebraska.
No reason to watch the US Open anymore, but every reason to click on this blog post.
The hottest Olympian, now has a man. Damn.
Chargers cheerleaders.
One last Bruce Springsteen video for Harley Fest

Sometimes you just bring the wrong pitcher in from the bullpen....
It wasn't David Riske's night. He entered the game with a two run lead and by the time he left, it was gone. With the off day maybe Ned should have used Mota or McClung or Villanueva for another inning? Who knows....you can second guess that choice until the cows come home and still not get anywhere. Brian Shouse didn't fair much better. Manny Parra deserved a W for his performance last night. The Brewers let the Cards off the hook. It was a nothing gained nothing lost series. Still have a 3.5 game lead over the Cards. They don't play the Cards again the rest of the season. It's a shame, the Brewers were 10-5 against them this season.
The Cards have new mascot.
It's really a shame that we don't play the Cards anymore, because it could be a lot of fun. Apparently, the Cardinals have the thinnest skin in the world. They are quickly becoming the poster child for the perpetually offended. First they were pissed about the home run trots, then the untucking shirts and now when a pitcher gets out of bases loaded jam, they're offended. This boneheaded St. Louis writer breaks down what Pujols had to say about Villanueva after the game. The writer did a pretty good job of explaining what happen, but then he had.......to..........keep.............writing:
"I don’t understand the Brewers. I just don’t. Really, I admire that team and its talent. Doug Melvin is one of the best guys in the game and an excellent GM. There are so many good players on that roster. But why do the Brewers always have to pull stunts? Why do they have to go knucklehead on us so often? What’s up with yanking their shirts out of their pants on the field as soon as they win a game, which, despite what they claim, really is an insult to the other team? What’s up with some of the showboat HR trots? What’s up with a journeyman like Villanueva gesturing wildly and cursing in the direction of the STL dugout? I don’t understand why this talented team feels that it needs to act up like NBA bad boy Ron Artest, or something. I don’t understand why this Milwaukee team feels the need to be controversial. I don’t understand the arrogance, considering that the Brewers have won NOTHING since 1982. And I don’t understand how Yost continues to allow it to happen. The Brewers will probably make the playoffs. They are that good. But we must ask: can you fellas at least hold off on the showboating until you actually win something?"
First off Carlos is NOT a journeyman. He's a young arm that's only been with the Brewers system and in the majors for barely 3 seasons. *(pointed out in the comments, CV actually came via the Giants)* If the untucking of the jerseys is such a crime against humanity, why are the Cardinals the only team to create a stink about it? Annoyed by home run trots? Don't give up the home runs. Annoyed by the untucking? Win the game. Pujols is notorious for watching his home runs go and slowly jogging around the bases. Pujols has been insulting pitchers for years and now suddenly you're offended.....When did the Cardinals become an authority on class? When your manager was arrested asleep at the wheel passed out drunk? When Josh Hancock died from driving drunk? St. Louis get off your high horse. There's a new kid in the NL Central, you may not like it, but please don't act offended, you're not that special. (leave your thoughts on Carlos and Albert in the comments)
Jim Powell has a post game recap in his blog. Between the Green Pillars says don't look now, the bullpen isn't the same. This author has come to the realization that maybe not everyone loves the Cubs. Here's a blog post from a Nashville Sounds game with pictures of players who might be getting the September call up. (h/t BrewCrewBall) BrewTownBeat should be call BrewTown Beat Down for this post. Sports Nirvana says, so this is a pennant race?
Now today's.......
St. Louis you were 5-10 against the Brewers this year. Suck on that.
The last of the meaningless Packers preseason games is tonight. The mighty Tennessee Titans will be in Green Bay.
ESPN has their big fat break down of the Green Bay Packers. Brats and Beer is unimpressed by that preview. Railbird Central has some things to watch for. Acme Packing Company is expecting to lose. Packer Geeks wonders what to do with KGB. Cheesehead.tv tries desperately to write something nice about the defense. Pack One goes in the trenches. Five things to watch for tonight. AOL Fanhouse visited Packers Training camp. Jobs are on the line for many Packers.
Check out the Titans Cheerleaders.
CBS Sports Akron vs. Wisconsin preview. Joe Rudolph is one happy camp-er. Cute Sports rounds up a ton of Badger links.
ESPN College GameDay for basketball is coming to Madison in February.
Campbell's soup ads with NFL moms, will be no longer.
It's fantasy football time and Kissing Suzy Kolber has players you should hate already.
Plenty of fine fine reasons to watch the Women's US Open in Tennis.
For Harley Week, here's more Bruce Springsteen for you.

A Lite Drink today, lost it a couple times, having major internet connection issues from the home office this morning.
That was an awesome win last night. When Craig Counsell gets three hits, it's a great night.
Ben Sheets pitched like we had been waiting for him to pitch. He wasn't incredibly sharp since he only lasted 6 innings, but he had his curve working and kept the Cardinals offense silent. The Brewers offense must have seen the 7 runs the Cubs put on the Pirates and said, lets do the same. Not one offensive player really stood out last night, it pretty much came from everywhere last night.
Uecker and Powell had some great play-by-play calls from last night.
From the St. Louis point of view - Cards season leaning toward disappointment. The Brewers own the Cardinals. Cards go down. Sheets turns the table.
Ryan Braun has the right idea. Don't be content with a split. Go for the kill tonight. Take the birds out.
Trenni talked to Prince after the game. Bugs and Cranks has a look at the new Ryan Braun uniform. BrewTownBeat calls Milwaukee superior to St. Louis in Beer and Baseball. SI writer with why CC should win the Cy Young. Right Field Bleachers interviews "the Doorman." A tentative playoff schedule. The Bucky Channel is not thrilled about instant replay.
And now today's
The team is 22 games over the .500 mark for the first time since finishing the 1992 season at 92-70. The Brewers have already matched their best win total in a month with last nights win: March . . . . .1-0 April . . . . . .14-12 May . . . . . .13-16 June. . . . . . 16-10 July . . . . . . 16-11 August . . . . 16-6
Looks like someone else has decided to do his own Schrute Farm Facts.
As the Packers prepare for the final meaningless game against the Titans, McCarthy is gonna lighten the load on Ryan Grant. Who also happens to have done absolutely nothing all camp anyway. KGB's knee is not getting any better. Railbird Central looks at the depth at linebacker. Packer Geeks looks at the Secondary. Beer and Brats finds the worst "Best and Worst" list. This writer doesn't care for Charles Woodson and compares him to Winona Ryder. (h/t B&B) Lumpkin is still in the running. An amusing take on each NFC team.
Bucks fly under the radar? This town can get behind this team like they did with the big three, but it's gonna take some proof on the court first.
Troy Vincent, Union Boss? Ron Dayne, "I'm not an NFL bust." Just because you say something over and over, doesn't make it true.
You wanted the Big Ten Network and now you got it. You also get the announcing team of Matt Devlin, Ian Allen, Jay Wilson. Who? Wow is that that the D-team?
We finally decided on a winner for the Miss Beer Cart Wisconsin competition.
Lance Allan rants again.
Rumors and Rants has Athletes + Money = Suckers.
John Jagler gets the worst Photoshop Ever.
Windbag Jay Mariotti has resigned from the Sun-Times.
What a terrible last name.
So when the kid asks "Mommy what's your job?" What's gonna be the answer?
Once again we continue to create a nation of Candyasses!
We've been posting video of the Boss all week in honor of Harley Fest. So here's another...

The Big Ten Network and Time Warner Cable, so happy together..
I had no idea the chubby kid from Superbad was in the Turtles.
First off, congrats to the Big Ten Network and Time Warner Cable for finally reaching an agreement. Now we don't have to worry about being unable to watch the Cal Poly game! Can you feel the excitement? I kid, it's good for the fans to be able to watch all of the games, no matter the opponent. In southeastern Wisconsin, the network will appear on channel 63 on Time Warner. In northern Wisconsin, the network will be on channel 72. For those of you with satellite, you're yawning right now. The Bucky Channel says, Your move Charter. From Wisconsin Sports Bar - Angels sing and church bells rang.
Badger Centric breaks down the depth chart. Everidge is getting a second chance. Badgers have plenty of goals this season. Wisconsin walk-ons look to make impact. UW is looking for talent outside the state. Don't discount the Badgers for a Big Ten title. A look at the new clock rules to help speed up the game. The Akron Zips probably aren't a very good team. How big are the Zips in Akron? Well the newspaper in Akron hasn't done a story on the team since last Thursday.
And sticking with the Badgers for our
The Badgers, charter members of the Big Ten Conference, are starting their 120th season of football (UW is 91-25-3 in 118 previous season-openers). UW has won 10 straight season openers (last loss was vs. Syracuse at Giants Stadium in 1997). UW’s 10 straight wins in season openers is tied with USC for the fourth-longest streak in the country. The only teams with longer current streaks are Nebraska (22), Florida (18) and Georgia (11). Since head coach Bret Bielema has been on the staff, Wisconsin has compiled a 25-1 record at Camp Randall Stadium. That is the second-best home record in the country over the last four years, trailing only Boise State (26-1).
Our lead story from yesterday and a must read, Dennis Krause looks at the 1952 Olympic gold basketball team featuring players from Beloit College and Marquette University.
The Brewers are in St. Louis for a quick two game series and the final time the Brewers face the Cards this year. I keep reading here and here, that a split will do. No way. Go for the jugular and sweep the Cards, put them 5 1/2 games back. You should go into every series expecting to sweep. If you go in expecting only to win half the games, you'll come out with even less. Bernie's Crew interviews Andy Barch, play-by-play radio announcer for the West Virginia Power. Top 5 stories of the Brewers this season. The St. Louis newspaper looks at the animosity between the Brewers and Cards. The only question is, how many Brewers get plunked in this series? I'm going with 3 Brewers hit by pitch.
Barack Obama, trashing talk about Cubs fans. Love it.
Railbird Central looks at trimming the fat and wonders if they should trade for a defensive tackle. Brats and Beer laughs at the Bears for drafting a injured player. With the D playing so terrible, Cheesehead.TV wonders if Thompson's biggest blunder was trading Corey Williams, not Favre. Packers Radio Network Dennis Krause looks at how the injuries are effecting the Packers. Are the Packers in need of a #3 WR? CB Pat Lee is still a project. The Bucky Channel goes over a couple of the players cut. Mike Sherman talks about Favre to the Sporting News Today.(h/t the butler) Daily Drink reader, Lawyer Rob sends over a very awkward picture from Stock Lemon.
Dominic James was back in Richmond, IN this past weekend.
TMJ 4's Lance Allan has a new feature called "Lance Rants", his debut column is here, with a scary picture Lance.
The Bob Boozer Jinx has, Olympic disappointment - Michael Redd.

Your buggy eyes are starting to creep me out.
Chicago's has the Olympic games, if they don't screw it up.
Andy Roddick gets taken out by the Undertaker.
I'm guessing Warren Sapp is going to be the first one eliminated off of Dancing With the Stars.
Poll Dancing at the Olympics?
Even D-League Cheerleaders are smoking hot. Except for a certain one, in the very last picture.
Since Nebraska was mentioned in the Badgers portion, that's the Bruce Springsteen song we go with today.
And since Blue Oyster Cult is playing Harley Fest....
