5.28.09 Fan of the Week

Welcome to a feature on SportsBubbler.com where we shine the light on you, the Wisconsin sports fan. Every week we will feature a new die-hard WI sports fan.

Hey Dan, how do you win such a prestigious award? Simple - There are two ways.

1. You are nominated by a fellow user on this site.

How do I nominate someone? Send me an e-mail dan@sportsbubbler.com and explain in 100 words or less, why that user should win the award.

What if I'm not a regular contributor to SportsBubbler? First off, why not? Secondly, yes you can win. Here's how

2. You submit a photo of yourself at a game/tailgating/playing softball etc. to dan@SportsBubbler.com

What do winners get? Bragging rights and the highly coveted SportsBubbler.com "You'll never be bored at work again" T-Shirt.

Without further ado, I present to you the "SportsBubbler.com Fan of the Week"

Username: sidney lanier
Real name: Vince C.
Favorite WI Team: Bucks
Most hated team: Cubs
Overrated WI team: Badgers football
Underappreciated WI team: Badgers basketball
Favorite SportsBubbler poster/commenter: I am continually impressed by the quality of the posts and posters here and would not want to slight anyone by omission. My favorites are my old friends from the jsonline Bucks board, all the current posters who put a lot of time and thought into crafting and supporting their arguments (even – sometimes especially – all you sabermetricians on the noble quest of finding a numerical representation for baseball’s irreducible complexity), and posters who have things to say that are counter, original, spare and strange (except when that strangeness extends to a full-flight man-crush on Marvin Gaye Williams, Jr.).
Least favorite SB poster/commenter: The one who visits the site but doesn’t sign up and participate. The more people who step up to this open mike, the better.
Favorite Radio or TV Announcer: Mike Tirico
Most annoying TV Radio announcer: Jon McGlocklin
Off-topic – Favorite Band/Artist: OK, here’s where I demonstrate that I really am an old fuddy-duddy. My tastes are eclectic and include classical, jazz, and some early rock. As my friends say, I only listen to dead musicians. My desert island recording would be Glenn Gould playing Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier.
Why SportsBubbler? You guys do a nice job on this site, and I appreciate the unobtrusive moderation.
Favorite Wisconsin Sports Moment: Cecil Cooper’s hit in the seventh inning of Game 5 of the 1982 ALCS.
What player did you idolize growing up? Growing up I lived in the same apartment building as Braves catcher Del Crandall (at 6700 W. St. Paul; baseball salaries were not what they are today), so he was a hero despite his propensity for hitting into double plays. But Aaron and Spahn were my real idols, mostly Aaron. Watching him eventually eclipse Mays in the eyes of the nation after years of relative obscurity was very satisfying.

What's Sid look like? Here’s one of me fraternizing with the enemy (or a reasonable facsimile thereof).

Congrats Sid!
