Closers vs. Brewers Offense

After the comeback against Wood today, it occurred to me that we've hit Wood well this year; then I remembered that we'd hit up Jason Isringhausen of the Cards as well. So, I thought, I wonder how the Crew offense is faring against closers overall?

Here's a list of the closers that the Brewers have faced thus far, and what their records are against Milwaukee this season:

Francisco Cordero (4/10, 19, 20):       0-0, 1/1 SVO, 3 G, 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 K/2 BB

Kerry Wood (3/31, 4/3, 5/1):              0-1, 1/2 SVO, 3 G, 3 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 4 K/2 BB

Jason Isringhausen (4/16, 21, 22):       0-1, 2/2 SVO, 3 G, 2.3 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 0 K/1 BB

Kevin Gregg (4/25, 27):                      1-0, 1/1 SVO, 2 G, 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4 K/1 BB

Billy Wagner (4/11):                           0-0, 1/1 SVO, 1 G, 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 K/0 BB

Brad Lidge (4/24):                              0-0, 1/1 SVO, 1 G, 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 K/0 BB

Total: 1-2, 7/8 SVO (88%), 13 G, 13.3 IP, 15 H, 9 R, 12 K/6 BB; 6.09 runs average, 1.58 WHIP

The overall line looks rough, but it's pretty much feast or famine: the Brewers scored 9 runs in 6 G (5.3 IP) against Wood and Isringhausen, forcing one blown save and two losses. In those 5.3 IP, the Brewers reached on 10 hits, 3 walks, and only struck out 4 times.

Against the rest, it's 8.0 scoreless IP in 7 G, and 4/4 SVO. In those 8.0 IP, the Brewers reached base on 5 H, and drew 3 walks.

So, I don't suppose that's all bad -- even when though they failed to score a run against Gregg, Lidge, Wagner, and Cordero, they managed to force their way on base to the tune of one baserunner per IP.

The best trend is that although the Crew have 28 games under their belts, they have only faced a closer 13 times, and these closers combine for only 8 SVO in those 13 G.

I like seeing that after 28 games, the Brewers have faced only 8 SVO for the opposition.
