Torres as a closer

The last post is negative on Torres. But as a closer, overall, he is quite good: 25/29 leads comverted (.862), due mainly to that huge stretch of consecutive saves in June. His overall leads converted % this year is average (31/37, .838), but his real value comes with his flexibility, which Yost does not allow with his work as a closer.

Torres has 8 multiple IP appearances since becoming the closer. He had 10 multiple IP appearances before that, through a much shorter period of time, and in a wealth of roles: middle innings work with leads, defecits, and ties, a 3 IP save, multiple holds and 2 blown leads, and even some extra innings work.

That is Torres' value to this ballclub, and one of the reasons he should not be closer.

About This Blog

I am Nicholas Zettel, and this is my baseball blog. I write for SportsBubbler.com, and along the way I do a lot of research -- this blog will have a lot of little tidbits of information that I pick up along the way. I like sluggers, speed and power, garbage time relievers, and my favorite Brewers are Rickie Weeks and Ben Sheets.
