Doesn't matter, Favre is RETIRED. That means Rodgers is the best QB for the Packers at this point. Ohhhh, its 2 weeks before training camp and Brett just wants to waltz in and be annointed started QB. Brett needs to be a man and come back and earn the job back. If he is that much better than Rodgers, it will be apparent and all is well. Brett feels he is entitled, that is clear evidence that he is still not 100 percent commited to the team. If he was, he'd come back, work hard and earn the job.
I have no problem with that. But that is not what TT said, he said he can come back as a backup to Rodgers, not compete, backup. What do you think TT would have done at the press conference, Favre had said he is coming back? What would have happened to poor Rodgers psyche then?

Wow these farve lovers are great, LETS KEEP A 39 YEAR OLD CRY BABBY ON THE ROSTER WHO SUCKS IN THE COLD. TT should not be fired he has put togeather two very good additions to the QB depth chart. Tim Brown said it the best if this was anyone else in the league this would be laughable no one would touch the guy. Who wants anyone who can't make a decsion to play till late june. My last point TED GAME HIM ANOTHER CHANCE IN LATE MAY!!!!!!!!Farve took it then said no. WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT THE MAN TO DO!!!!!!!!
Most of the "Favre" lovers can spell Favre.

TT is the best thing to happen to the Packers since Wolf traded for Favre and Reggie White. For some reason folks seem to forget the years we went 4-12 with Brett at QB. Brett Favre is not entitled to anything, if he really wants to play he'd come back and compete for the starting job. TT's job is not to appease Brett or the fans. Its his job to put the best team on the field and do what's right for the packers. Brett will not be released and give TT kudos for having the balls to stand up to Favre and let him know who is in control of the Packers.
This years draft picks haven't played a down of NFL football yet, to say they were terrible is moronic.
Years of 4-12? I believe it was the only losing season Favre has had as a Packer...oh, and TT was part of that team, right? TT has done OK as a GM, but people talk like he is the savior. The guy did inherit a lot of good players - most of the core players on the team now - and a HOF QB. As far as Brett Favre being entitled, most in the profession will tell you he is. Superstars are treated differently...even Jimmy Johnson, as a HC, said he treats his stars differently...nothing new there...it's a multi-billion dollar business and just like hollywood, the mega-stars are treated differently.

Is Favre better than Rodgers? If the answer is yes, then he is not doing his job.
How dare you bring common sense into this argument.

Sorry, I'll stick to the Brewers board:)

I've never seen direct quotes that TT STATED Favre would definitely be a backup. All quotes seem, only, to allude to that point.
But...until Favre files his reinstatement papers, this is all a moot point. Hopefully all parties involved can hash something out this weekend.

Re: It's only a matter of time everyone will want TT fired!!!!!!
gmiller4:You are absolutely correct. Dan Pompei, Hub Arkush, John Madden are in total agreement. The entire country thinks the Packer organization should show enough class to bring Brett back as the starter and let Rodgers wait another year. With a team on the verge of going to the Super Bowl, this is a ridiculous gamble and 31 other organizations would not ignore common sense as TT is. With Favre and Rodgers, we have the best quarterbacking in the division. With Rodgers and Brohm, it is a crapshoot. Is that what the Packers are all about? Excellent point about the playbook! Beautiful. Two Bears and a has been's opinions equals "...the entire country thinks...." It's no different when you self-appointed spokesmen pop off about what all Packers fans want. And when you need to justify your nonsense you toss in a wimpy "common sense" for good measure. Your arrogance is startling. You guys remind me of those plastic, dipping birds. Tip one into a cup of water and they would dip up-and-down mindlessly, all day. Only in your case you're chirping "fire Ted" when you come up for air. Mindlessly, all day.

Re: It's only a matter of time everyone will want TT fired!!!!!!
gmiller4:If Tim Brown is right, I think that shows that the issue from the start has been Thompson's ego and his not wanting to be overshadowed by favre. That is a disastrous trait in a general manager. What a 180 degree departure from the philosophy of Bob Harlan who never let ego be an issue. Just one little problem with that comment, why does Bob Harlan continually say good things about Ted Thompson then? You guys created this whole cheap shot line about "Thompson's ego." You plucked it out of thin air. Invented it to justify your anti-team guerrilla war against the guy because your beloved Mike Sherman got his walking papers. Brett just gave you another excuse to bring out your wrecking bars and have another go at the Packers. Let Thompson do his job and we'll be smiling plenty on Sundays.

I don't think Brett has been given that option. To comeback and compete for the starting job. I don't think Brett would lose the No#1 position if that occured. 'Moved on', I take it as, back-up or trade.
What do you think?

John Madden?
Are you serious? Madden's been tossing off to Brett's Fathead on the roof of his tour bus for years.
Thanks - I needed a chuckle.

I think he has... GVS asked him in the interview about competing and Brett's dismissive reply was "Why?"
IF he were serious about coming back then why WOULDN'T he agree to a little competition? IF he's our best chance to win next season AND the best QB in the Division he'd win easily.
After all of his waffling and agonizing over a 100% commitment it'd be irresponsible of TT & MM NOT to insist on an open competition.
I'm sure that haughty "why" crack fired ARod up - at least I HOPE so.
Maybe one good thing will come from this fiasco... a more determined 1st year starter eager to prove everybody wrong.

Re: It's only a matter of time everyone will want TT fired!!!!!!
Well I for one would like to see the two compete. It's good for the team. However if Brett is not up to trying to win the job back, then it's academic...bye bye Brett. Somehow, I have learned that alot of the press and these interviews are nothing more than smoke screens. When the *** hits the fan...lets see how this turns out.
I am a Brett fan and not an apologetic. I'd like to see if Brett still has something left, by beating AR out.
If this never takes place, then I hope this year turns out ok....'cause I am tired of these A-hole Pats fans busting my b+lls about my Packers here in NE.

It's all academic - Brett has NO intention of gracing Lambeau with his presence. Except as a member of the opposing team.
And what are the Pats fans crowing about?
They didn't do any better against the G-Men than we did... at least we went to OT.

Being asked to "come in as a backup" is the only logical way to handle this. When Favre retired, Aaron Rodgers was given the starting role - so as of today, until Brett comes in (if ever) Rodgers is the starter. But like most situations, if the backup comes in and proves he can do a better job than the starter, then the change will be made - that's the reality of professional sports that the best players should be playing (Eric Kuselias of ESPN radio would be proud).
Seriously, I believe it's the only way for TT/MM to handle this situation, if Brett indeed is serious about coming back to Green Bay. Until Brett comes in and gets in his reps and shows that he's ready to play and be the starter again, he could ONLY be the backup. Right now, Rodgers has been working with the team as the #1, and as of today is more ready to play than Brett Favre. Again, I will reiterate, at this point in his career I believe he should stay retired . . . .
