I'm sorry, I didn't realize there was any question as to whether Sheets got it done in big games.  Maybe I'm not on here enough, or maybe I have just done such a good job blocking out the baseball retards in here that I didn't know it was a legitimate concern.

Granted, Sheets hasn't been in too many big-time games.  However, in the biggest games he has has been in (Olympic Gold Medal Game, Opening Days - especially the last two, down the stretch last year, All-star games, etc.) he has been terrific.  I've always viewed him as someone who got better in bigger situations and often was mediocre against sub-par teams in the middle of the season.  Sheets has struggled a bit of late, but he is one of our least concerns coming down the stretch.

    Re: Sorry, Ben...

How does his number of innings pitched so far this year compare to the past several seasons with all his DL stints?

P.S.  Sorry if those numbers were already posted in this thread.......admittedly I was too lazy to read through the entire post to look.

    Hey Russo,

Sheets definitely hasn't pitched this many IP since 2004, but he is also working on one of his highest pitch count workloads, too.

He hardly touched the number of 100+ pitch counts in previous years.

He's been run through pretty good this season, in terms of workload.

Thanks Radio!  I figured the numbers were up based on his statement of pitching more to contact this year, Yost leaving starters in longer this year, and lack of injuries.  Perhaps if he squares off against some lesser teams in the near future and the Crew gets some decent leads in those games it would be wise to pull him after 6 or 7 innings.........preparation for the last two starts & playoffs?  Not too many starts left though I guess.

*** Caveat:  At times his pitching to contact more seemed to backfire a little as that contact came in the form of base hits.....actually extending some of his innings.  He certainly knows his arm better than I do but, personally, I prefer the power pitching - strike 'em out Sheets to the pitch-to-contact Sheets.

That's what THEY would like you to believe.

    Yeah, I hear that, Russo.

I thought that last night would have been the perfect night to pull Sheets after 5 scoreless. He was already up around 85 pitches, and the team was winning by 3 at the time.

Yost needs to pick his spots resting these guys, but I don't think he will.

Which will be too bad --- don't want to get to the crunchtime run with a bunch of tired arms.

Hey 82 Brew!  Yes Sir, I sure do.  How the hell did Weeks survive the plane trip to Nashville?  Ha ha!  I guess we picked up Ray-Ray too late huh?

I'll have to ship the brew from the Big D as we just bought a house in Dallas last Thursday.  ;)

    Hey 82 Brew,

Sure was good to see Week's .220 bat back in the lineup leading off huh?      :)
