No, it didn't 'lead to a loss'. Only rubes like you would believe lame cliches like that.
They lost because Riske grooved some pitches right down the middle of the plate, plain and simple. Get over it.

Southern Fan of Favre:
Once again the immaturity of a Brewer's player leads to a loss. Ya, ya, I know they won eight in a row or something before that but that was against the sisters of the poor.
God, this fucking burns me. They won the damn games they were supposed to win. They beat the team 'that is on their level', or however you described it, 10-5 head to head this year. Go cry somewhere else.

They finally get to play someone close to their level and they lose their heads. I have a feeling that getting by dominated by the Brewers all season and an embarrassing 12-0 shutout probably would have had more to do with getting the Cardinal hitters "pumped" for a comeback win last night. Pumping your fists doesn't lose games, David Riske does. It's one game, and the Cardinals are where they started before the series now without a chance to make up ground playing the Brewers again this season.

Carlos did nothing wrong last night. He made a huge set of outs in that situation.
Besides, this one is equally on the Cards, with all their whining and their actions.
I'm glad Carlos shows some emotion.

It's painfully obvious the Cards are in "rabbit ear" mode to try and get a spark. C'mon, they are making an issue out of the untucking which is not new or disrespectful and has been explained long before this eries..
The Brewers just need to keep playing good baseball and let the Cards do what they do.
HA HA! BALLS! MLB Network can't get here soon enough.

I actually think Carlos' actions did fire up the Cardinals. Especially Pujols. I thought it was bush that Carlos directed his enthusiasm right at the Cardinals dugout. Basically right at Pujols. Wrong guy in the Cardinals lineup to piss off. Once you get the out fist pump towards your catcher then head towards your dugout and say whatever you want. I don't mind the emotion whatsoever. I do have issues with directing it towards the Cards dugout. As much as I hate the Cardinals, Carlos was in the wrong in that situation.

Re: Act like you've been there before Carlos
Another long post lost when posting. GD this site again.
Here were the highlights:
Yost had some blame for not pulling Riske right way; he didn't have "it"
The Cards are pathetic for complaining about the "big, bad Brewers."
St. Louis is the scum of the NL like the Yankees are the scum of the AL.
You fill in the gaps.

The Cards are quickly becoming the poster child for the perpetually offended.

What Carlos did was far from confrontational. What Pujols did showed why he doesn't deserve the adulation he sometimes gets around here.
The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime. -- Babe Ruth

Sure it did. But saying it lead to a loss is a bit silly IMO. Hellen Keller could've hit those pitches Riske threw- he basically said it was like putting the ball on a tee...not only that, he threw them to their best hitters.
Getting fired up in baseball doesn't always work, in fact, it can work against you. I thought is was pretty apparent the Cards were too fired up for game 1, and let the emotions get the best of them by overswinging and committing silly errors.

Re: Act like you've been there before Carlos
It always amazes me how perception becomes reality in America.
Tony LaRussa's Cardinals are considered a class act.
However nothing could be further from the truth. Pujols is the biggest showboat and crybaby in baseball.
LaRussa is a coward. They have now hit Braun three times (each time the final game of the series) with little provocation. Supposely this time it was retaliation for a pitch that wasn't within three feet of Pujols. What if teams started punking Puljos for his act after every hit.
This morning the Brewers are uniformily being taken to task for being bush, immature and it is silly.
Carlos wasn't looking at anyone when he celebrated until Albert got in his face.
Braun is taken to task for admiring his homers, yet Mr. Pujols stood at home plate admiring a double and then pointed to sky when he barely got his slow ass into second, then to assures his place in the *** Hall of fame he starts baiting JJ.
Carlos didn't do anything but feel happy about getting out of a tight spot. The Cards won because Riske pitched like crap. If they weren't pumped up until the 8th inning of the second game in a two game series when they are 3.5 games back in the WC race then they have more problems then just a lack of talent.

Re: Act like you've been there before Carlos
Great post Ghost. LaRussa is about as bush as they come, and the fact that he always tries to turn it around in the media is hilarious. Look at the incident with Prince last year, and how he acted like his team was victimized somehow. Good stuff Tony.

Re: Act like you've been there before Carlos
I love how QUICKLY some folks are to jump all over Carlos Villanueva last night for showing emotion in getting out of a jam in the 7th inning. From the way it looked, he directed his yell and fist pump and NO ONE in particular - but then again the "savior" of the Cardinals, a guy who has "a ton of respect" for the game of baseball decides to take offense to a player getting fired up and start cursing at him in Spanish. From the post game interview, Pujols said he had to "put Carlos in his place because he didn't respect baseball." Yeah, it takes a real man holding a bat and pointing it at a fired up pitcher to be the mediator. What a joke! I had a lot of respect for him up until last night when he decided to stick his nose in the Brewers business. Perhaps he should have b*tched at his team for acting like a bunch of immature babies and slamming their helmets into the ground in frustration, multiple times last night.

If you'd seen Keller play, you wouldn't dis her. She hit .393 for Chattanooga in '09, I think it was, and even later in her career beat Cool Papa Bell in an exhibition race between doubleheader games at the Blind vs. Negro League All-Star Game in 1928 in Kansas City.
