Rickie's set up for a big series with that gaudy .063 against their starter.

BIG--four hits, coupla runs scored, maybe an RBI and only two errors over the three-game set.

As soon as I saw the game thread preview I knew that little nugget would be the flashpoint.  Death, taxes and Rickie Weeks debates, the only guarantees in life.

wow, i sit down and it's 3-0 already. Nice way to start !!

If you are the Pirates, haven't you seen Gorzelanny get hammered by the Brewers enough this year ?

How on earth did Rickie get a hit? Bribe the official scorer? Did the defense run away from the ball?

    Goodness!

    Gotta love this.....Carlos!! Awesome.

Villanueva: I've lost some respect for Pujols

    By Tom Haudricourt
    Friday, Aug 29 2008, 06:05 PM

Pittsburgh - I finally got to talk to Carlos Villanueva about the things Albert Pujols said about him after the game Wednesday night in St. Louis. Pujols accused Villanueva of pointing into the Cards dugout after getting out of a bases-loaded jam and said he showed the team no respect.

Villanueva said he was not pointing into the St. Louis dugout and meant no disrespect whatsoever, that he merely was excited about getting out of the jam. And he said Pujols had no right to go off on him like that.

"I think sometimes he thinks he's bigger than the game," said Villanueva. "He's not.

"I have respect for the Cardinals. I'm going to do my best to do my job. I did not point in their dugout or look at anybody. (Catcher Jason) Kendall (who caught a foul pop for the last out) was a little bit toward their dugout and I was looking at him.

"I used to have a lot of respect for Pujols. Now, I've lost some of that respect. I don't know why he would say those things about me. They're not true."

As for the other "mini controversy" in St. Louis -- the Brewers untucking their shirts after victories, which some Cardinals folks said was showing the other team up -- both manager Ned Yost and centerfielder Mike Cameron, who started the tradition, had the same basic response.

"If they don't want to see it, then beat us," said Yost.

Cameron had almost the same words, and couldn't believe anyone would make a big deal about it.

Anyway, that's the final words on those two topics.

I'm wearing my CV shirt in honor of our hardass young middle reliever.

BTW, what on earth happened to Gorzelanny? His BB are off the charts this year -- he was much better than this 2006-2007 (especially 2007)...

Thanks, Cali. I would have been shocked to hear that he aimed the ball well.

BTW, one of my favorite things about game threads, besides the rampant sex jokes and over-the-top emotion, is that everyone constantly updates pitch counts inning by inning.
