Beautiful. I was thinking today, walking home from the Addison platform, that it sure is funny when and how lady luck catches up with teams. Now, I am not discounting that the Cubs were a good team, or even a very good team. But, there were certain aspects of their performances throughout the season that seemed unrealistic and eventually had to correct themselves (tea, BABIP and Ryan Dempster are the two most important ones). Both corrected themselves in the playoffs. It doesn't do the Cubs justice to say that they choked -- as an analyst on Jim Rome said, "that was a choke job, that was a strangulation" -- because the Cubs didn't lose anything. The Cubs never gained anything to lose. The beauty of this playoff loss is that it can be explained by luck. Not skill, not performance -- this was a very good team that simply evened out at the absolute worst time. Now, that doesn't mean that I'm not laughing any less than I was this weekend....but it is sinking in that that was one of the most incredible poetic and unlucky ways to lose a series on the planet. And it didn't even require a spook or a curse -- that was flat out luck. The real Cubs fans will realize that and realize that luck in the postseason is exactly why any insistence on the World Series as the measurement of success, propped upon the shoulders of two other short series, is misguided.

This little playoff baseball mini-vacation was fun and all, but this exact reason is why I am looking forward to going back to work in Iowa City with all of those bandwagon loser and deeply depressed die-hard Cubs fans on Wednesday.
Not only did these guys choke again (and I swear each time they do it is way fuggin' funnier than the last one), but they can no longer come back with the lame "26 years" crap. Even the "well we won the division" crap (since they all refer to the Cubs as "we") can be met with the "At least we won a playoff game comment.
I am going to schedule no less than 2 hours into my calendar Wednesday for the sole purpose of tormenting those poor fvckers.
Yosty (YO-stee) n. A collection of games that the Brewers have lost , where you can look at a piece or pieces of management by Ned Yost and reasonably and logically conclude (based on conventional baseball wisdom and factual information available at the time) that he should have done something differently that could, along with other factors, possibly have changed the outcome of the game.

Q: What's the difference between Iowa and Dannon yogurt?
A: Dannon yogurt has an active culture.

What i dont get is how there just going to give up and sit there and cry about it. Look at the Angles. ITS BASEBALL *** HAPPENS. Givin most teams can win a world series in 100 years but still. Look how long we waited just to go to the post season. Yes we prolly lost a lot of fans in that 56-106 season but still.

Great point, princeofpower. Why weren't Cubs fans the ones giving their team the standing ovation send off to Los Angeles? Or cheering throughout a playoff game? For a franchise that apparently has not seen a lot of postseason success, they certainly act like they're entitled to it. The Cubs had a great season, and yes, should be happy with that. It's that stupid "World Series or nothing" goal that helps feed and build that ridiculous sense of entitlement. But you can't have a sense of entitlement without actually being entitled to something, and no fanbase is "entitled" to World Series victories.

A team doesn't lose fans, it loses thrill seekers.
Unfortunately, Miller Park will still be full of the terminally obnoxious next year during the Cubs' series.

This image has to make Cubs fans sick.
Clipped, Enlarged, Printed and now is pasted on the office door to the breakroom with the caption below. The diehard Cub fan at work can take this down all he wants, 'cuz I made a bunch of copies
" You were my favorite Brewer Billy, but I had to move on. Just remember everytime you step to the plate, I will shed a tear, hoping you don't strikeout. Good luck my friend. P.S. Get the Lasik it will help you see your contract better and how you haven't lived up to it." -MateoInMex

Do you work for SI or something? The Reds aren't going to sniff the playoffs next year.

Perfectly written. Almost poetic. Although it isn't uncommon for many Cubs fans and FIBs to feel entitled to almost everything else. Why not a WS?
