    Vikings on the move?

Forbes.com released their top 10 sports franchises most likely to relocate and the Vikes came in at #4 (ironic).  For as much as I loathe everything Minnesota, I would hate to see them move out of Minneapolis and ruin one of the great sports rivalries.

That would be really bad news. I live in the Cities, the U and the Twinks have new stadiums coming. The Excel is world class, it would be awful if a Metro of around 3 million people loses their NFL franchise.

Hey, I had always thought that selling the team to Zigi meant a much better chance of keeping the team in Minnesota.  First it was the Lakers, then the North Stars...

No purple people eaters would be a real shame. I think it would be a sad day for the NFL is that ever happens.

I'd hate to see the Vikings go.  Maybe playing in a dome is to blame. Put them out in the weather again.

You may be right about the Metrodump!  I recently saw a program on the NFL channel about the "Top 10 Home Field Advantage Stadiums." The Viking's former, outdoor stadium, the Met, was ranked #10 (of course Lambeau Field was #1). I live just outside the Twin Cities, over the border, in Wisconsin and would like nothing better than to see the LA Vikings. I would love to see Packer news and Packer Sunday games fill the void after the Queens "pack" up and leave;-))

This has been talked about for years, the Vikings lease agreement with the dump is up in 2011 I believe.  After that Zigi will move the team if a new stadium is proposed in LA.  MN residents do not want to pay a tax for another sports stadium, and I can' blame them.  Zigi is reportedly worth over a billion dollars.

I can.  Its really stupid and naive to think that a sports team in this day and age would pay for a stadium.

Think of it like this, what is the difference between Iowa, and Wisconsin, we have professional football.

The Green Bay Packers generate on average between 150-200 million dollars in local revenue, this ranges anywhere from gas stations, to restaurants, to clothing stores.  The Packers renovation of Lambeau Field came in at 300 million dollars.  I would say that the local revenue generated over the course of time by the Green Bay Packers heavily OUTWEIGHS the amount of money spent to renovate.

Minnesota, especially Minneapolis, St. Paul have to be the dumbest idiots out there.  There are only 32 NFL Teams, 32 of the best revenue generating, highest watched, highest attended events in the States.  Why would you not be kissing ass to keep them.  Well its because they figure the owner has a billion dollars and he should pay it.  IF that is how they feel about it, don't complain when they move them to LA.

I am not a big proponent of Government anything, however the risks are outweighed by the rewards in this case.

In fact, I put my money where my mouth is.  Every year on my state tax return, I voluntarily give up $100 dollars to the retirement of the Stadium fund.

If Minnesota wants to become Iowa, let them.

I will not be Packer Fan again til Ted Thompson and Mark Murphy are fired. Which wont be long after that cuz out team will fall apart and all out good players will want out of Dodge.I'd rather have Mike Sherman, Ray Rhodes, Lindy Infante or any other old Packer's Brass before rooting for team run by arrogant ungrateful ingrates. At least they were trying to to what was best for the team. Not what is best for the egos." Ace_Maverick July 2008

I'm with Cheezer on this one. I don't want to live in a Bush League town. This community has helped to fund the Homer Dome, Target Center, Excel Energy Center ( a world class Event Center), approved funding for a Twins Stadium (without a roof, idiots), and the U has put together the financing for a new Outdoor Football Stadium for the Goophers. It is a lot to ask to fund another state of the art facility for the Queens, but I'm selfish and want to see it happen.

I don't understand why they didn't build one super facility.  It would have seemed cost effective.  At least one facility for the Gophers and Vikings.  With modern construction technology and theories, I have to believe they could do a much better job at a multi-purpose facility than was done in the past.

If they build 3 facilities, they will have 3 facilities competing for the rent generated by off season events.  Good for the renter, but not those making money by renting facilities out to non-season events.

I also don't understand the no roof idea.  With modern retractable roof technology, it just doesn't make sense.  Maybe Milwaukee can host Twins games as well.  Who's going to attend a concert or other event outdoors in MN during the winter?  No roof sounds like a dream of yesteryear ignoring modern economics.

The Twin Cities are major league in sports crybablies. If they built $50 billion in stadiums they'd still be crybabies. Major league whiners and quitters. Major.
