    What is TT's job?

I have talked about the lack of depth on this team on earlier posts.  TT saved money last year by not signing any backups worth playing behind Picket and Grant.  We let go players instead of signing and its come back to hurt us bad.  I am starting to think that TT is more concerned about making money for the Packers org. than to put a great team on the field.  The 10 mil. that we are saving on Brett, the 10 mil. that we already had before Brett signed with the Jets,  why did we not use this money?  You can say that there was no free agents out there worth buying...Thats a bunch of crap!  We let one of our best defense line player leave free agent.  Other teams around the league are buying free agents including Colts,Patriots, and others that are now in contention to win the big game this year. If we had signed a couple of the available free agents the last two years we would not be sitting here the way we are.  We could have had the team around Brett last year to put us over the top. I know the trade deadline is this week.  How about using some of our stockpiled draftpicks and get some decent plug to put next to Picket?  Go out and find a big bruizer half back that is a one cut slasher.  We helped pay the price for the stadium, how about forkin out the bucks your holding and get us some depth.  Being the youngest team in the league year after year is a sure sign that you wont put forth the money to retain and to build you depth in the free agent market.

     Same story, different poster.

Your post has so many holes, I am not going to waste the time to even break it down.

Yeah spending money to put a better product on the field, has holes?? Our defense resembles your brain Cheesewhiz, no adequate depth.

Simple. The job of  the GM is to put a competitive team on the field for years to come. TT has done that, end of story.

Matt Millen did not, so he got fired.

No GM is perfect, no GM makes 100% correct decisions. You take the good with the bad with all GM's, owners, players, etc...

TT has a talented mix of guys on the Packers under contract with money to spare to keep paying our own talent and still have some reserve left "if" a stud becomes available on the market that could put the team over the top.

TT has done such a god job that other GM's in the league voted him executive of the year.

That all makes more sense to me than some angry online poster expecting perfection.

    enough said.....

Spending more money=winning more games?  Wonder how that is working for the Vikings.

Remind me again how many Super Bowls the Patriots have won without Tom Brady?  Think they will get there this year?

Remind me again how many times Tom Brady went 16-0 in the regular season without Randy Moss.

Irrelevant.  How many Super Bowls has Randy Moss won?

    Re: What is TT's job?

First of all, Brett did not leave because of how TT spends the budget.  It had to do with the position they were offering Favre.  I cannot blame TT because he apparently didnt know what Favre wanted.  Favre would have stayed if they would have given him the #1 outside custodial job with a tractor to ride on.  But they never offered it to him so finally he said all I want to do is play football.  When Mancini said he would give Favre a tractor Favre thought he was getting the custodial job, but Mancini renigged when he got there and stuck him in a #1 QB position.  The first couple of games Favre looked really depressed but then he came to the reality that he wasnt going to get what he wanted and snapped out of it.  Sometimes you have to trick children to pull them out of a tantrum!

The only one who complained about who TT signed or did not sign was Favre himself.  Havent heard any thing from the other players about TT's hiring.

Cheezewhiz and his buddies have figured out yet that cap money is a lot like first half timeouts. Neither one carry over.

    Re: What is TT's job?

It would be nice to see TT spend some coin.

For example, with all that money in the bank, it wouldn't have hurt to spend $1 million on a 1 year deal on somebody like Shaun Alexander instead of keeping a back like DeShawn Wynn. Besides the fact that Alexander is absolutely a better back, he adds a lot more leadership and fan excitement to the team.

In terms of why I get frustrated with Ted, the Brew Crew makes for a good comparison... they are balancing their young talent with other acquisitions... and it is NOT hurting them financially at all because they are signing and trading for solid veteran players (leaders) -- to one and two year deals with extra cap room. Sometimes I think Ted is so afraid of making a mistake, he is unwilling to take a risk... but as Ron Wolf once said, if you make a mistake, make up for it somewhere else (manage your risk by diversifying).  Take the example --- Ken Hamlin signed a 1 year deal towards the end of Free Agency with the Cowboys in 2007 for 2.5 million...  he made the pro-bowl, then they extended his contract 6 years because he proved himself.

Back to the Brew Crew -- Bottom line, if TT was GM, there would have been no C.C., Durham, Kendall, Cameron, etc.

Of those that didn't work out so well (Gagne), most are already off the books.

    Re: What is TT's job?

I think one of the aspects you all are forgetting here is that the NFL is currently operating without a collective bargaining agreement.  Current salary cap rules remain in place for the 2008 and 2009 season, but the cap goes away in 2010.  Possibly Ted is positioning the packers to lock up several of the 2010 and 2011 pakcer free agents with long term deals next year to circumvent the bidding wars that will ensue if no CBA is signed prior to 2010.
