    earn a buck

I hope that this is the end of that program, nobody seems to want it, another point I would like to vent on,

why would they want to have a black powder season around christmas, that is the snowmobile season. busiest week.

Doesn't make sense - you would think they would want everyone out of the woods by then. As far as earn a buck goes, have been in that for years. I hunt in the Southwest corner, and we just don't get the huge bucks that they have up north, so in my mind, it is probably a good thing where we are as it gives the bucks a chance to get some size, as opposed to seeing all these people with spiked bucks and 4 pointers in their trucks.

This was the first year they did rifle where we are as it has always been shotgun only. I was against it as there just isn't enough woods to kill off errant shots, but it seemed to go without incident. Just doesn't seem to be as many hunters...or deer down there as there used to be.

I agree, there is no need to go to a rifle, if it is a safety issue.  with the rifled barrel's and the sighting on slug shotgun's .they are accurate enough to get the job done.

I hunt in Sawyer county and we've never had EAB, but we've been a Tzone. The extra doe season combined with severe winters has destroyed the deer population. There were very few deer seen last season in our area. The DNR still feels the deer population is too high--they want to decrease it to about 750,000. According to their maps, we have a deer density of about 29/sq.mi. That is fewer than 2 deer per 40 acres, and they would like to decrease that density. I think the primary reason is the number of deer/auto collisions--the DNR gets great pressure from the insurance industry to eliminate deer. The DNR ought to tell the insurers to go to he**. Have 'em put a "deer rider" on auto policies to cover deer collisions instead of decreasing the deer herd any further.

JBlood24, your post is so very true, every part of it.  sawyer county is not far from my home county ,price, I wish the DNR. would just STFU. and let the sportsmen club's run the  deer herd and the fishing limit's

A few years ago the local sportsmen's club asked to put a sign on my property that said "Don't Shoot Does". They should be up everywhere and in addition ought to say "Don't Shoot Small Bucks". Our hunting group is trying to do that, but it's difficult, especially with the kids starting to hunt.

Jack, take time to fill out the survey at the DNR website on deer hunting seasons. They're asking for hunters' input on length of season, etc.
