Brewers sign Dominican prospect

Chicago - I just
spoke on the telephone with Brewers scouting director Bruce Seid, who
was excited about a young outfielder named Jose Pena that he just
signed out of the Dominican Republic.
Today is the day that teams can sign international players not
eligible for the draft and Seid said he, Latin scouting director
Fernando Arango and even GM Doug Melvin had seen Pena, 16, play.
"He's really a polished kid offensively for 16," said Seid, who was
on his way back home from the Dominican. "We all liked him, and other
teams were interested in him.
"He's athletic and has some power. He's got good size, 6-3, 195, and
has a strong enough arm to be a corner outfielder. We really like his
make-up. We're really excited to get him signed."
