This Just In.... Braun makes more ultra controversial statements

     You'd think he'd know better....

Minutes after unleashing the controversial notion that Milwaukee's pitching staff is not as good as the Cub's pitching staff, an observation certain to undergo intense scrutiny by mathematicians all over the planet, the surly and sly left fielder for the Brewers unleashed yet another torrent of highly controversial remarks. Here are just a few of his sizzlingly brash suppositions.

    1) "Jason Bay's numbers have really improved since he went to Boston."

    2) "The Indians and Twins get a little more offensive production out of the catcher position than we do."

    3) "Due to the deep historical roots of the Arab-Israeli conflict, there is little hope that it will end soon."

    4) "When all is said and done, Adrian Petersen will be a better NFL running back than Paul Ott Carruth was."

    5) "It is a lot harder for guys who don't take steroids to hit a ball to Big Mac territory in St. Louis than it was for guys who did."

    6) "If Prince and I got injured at the same time, I think we'd struggle offensively."

    7) That Senator Byrd is no spring chicken."

    8) "Mark Buehrle is a little more reliable than Manny Parra."

    9) "We're not off to a great month of July."

    10) "As the global economy goes, more technological innovation will come from California than, say, Idaho."

Shocking comments from the now two time all star.... This reporter is stunned.

So it'd be ok w/ you if after his start Suppan would have said, "yeah it's frustrating.  I pitched my heart out today and should have received a W for my efforts.  The offense had a ton of opportunities and couldn't cash in.  This game was on the offense.   The bats choked in every key situation.  We had Zambrano on the ropes and let him off the hook.  It really sucks for me."

None of that is "controversial" so why don't guys come out and say stuff like that w/ regularity?  You don't throw your teammates under the bus.  Ever.  That's why.  My instinct is that Braun is not a bad guy.  He needs to come out w/ a retraction.

     Shipit,

The point is that What Braun said was so obvious that it did not need to be said at all... Any idiot who was not wearing rose colored glasses the size of Texas knew this was going to happen at some point during the year. Melvin's excuse about too many teams being in it is convenient, but that does not mean he could not have addressed it in the off season. And Suppan throwing his mates under the bus would be even more ludicrous given that he has been a very expensive piece of mediocre talent that has not performed when it matters the most. Good Augusts don't make terrible Septembers and Octobers go away.

No, the line about "we need to do something to throw the ball better" did not need to be said at all.

Who gives a *** if every idiot on the street thinks the Crew needs pitching? Braun's comment about his teammates was out of line.

I agree w/ Radio on this.  He doesn't want to be known as the guy who totally disregards the feelings of his teammates at the first sign of trouble.  He might not have to live with Burns for very much longer but McClung is going to be with team for awhile.  How do you think he felt when he saw those comments.  I was thinking there's nobody in the rotation that has the stature and seniority to call out Braun on this - including Gallardo who is just too young.  BUT Trevor Hoffman could and should.

     Radio,

Who am I taling to here? My wife?

I just said above that what Braun said did not need to be said at all. This means he should not have said it!!!!

BTW, thanks for pointing out it was Coop!!! And while I agree with your statistical analysis of the Crew, they have been shut down way too much lately. ( 2 vs. the Cubs, shutout by the Giants and Mets)

I think the Brewers might, just might have some dissention on the team--th

ere is no logical reason this team should be struggling like it has lately  Either this team is over rated or the pieces are not fitting too well

The poor play and losing began when Ricky went down because prior to that, the Brew were looking good and winning

Can anyone tell me why Macha puts Hall in the lineup--this guy is worthless and should not be on anyones team

Also, what happened to Rivera--seems like he just disappeared

     Big Brew,

I have a problem with the company line on Kendall. "The guy plays every day" is not a reason to keep putting in a sub par catcher. Our lack of foresight at the catcher position has been astonishing. The last good catcher this team had was Matheny... This is even more maddening when you look at guys like Veritek, Przynski, etc.  Rivera is likely not an option to play every day, but that does not mean you just keep trotting Kendall out there.

As for Hall, Macha has played him sparingly and against Lily, there's little chance that Gamel would have done much.  That said, I don't see the harm in an outright release of Hall at this point. The only thing that gets hurt there are some egos.

I don't think we have any more dissension than any other team has. And keep in mind, this team really only got hot when Hoffman came back. For all the good Weeks was doing, we still had a very sluggish start. IMHO, the real problem is pitching 1st and catching a very close 2nd. In the NL, having two free outs in the lineup is killer. (That may be an exaggeration, but Kendall is underwhelming in every sense of the word, much like Ice Age III)
