I'm good w/ ranking him 3rd in that category.  Strange that we haven't had a dominating linebacker in all these years.

and yet we have more $$ tied up in LBs than any other position..

LOVED Newsome pre-knee but as good as he was, he wasn't in Woodson's class - at least I don't think he was.

Newsome obviously wasn't the freakish physical specimen Woodson is; but he may have been the slowest shut-down corner ever.

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

    Tim Harris?

John Anderson...  and who is the young man that passed away a few years ago and just OWNED the Niners TE   in the one Championship game  ?  I  am thinking Brian Williams... why is the name not coming to my head

    Wayne Simmons?

Wayne simmons, now that guy was tough.  I really don't think there's too many corners that are in Woodson's level, he's the cornerback equivalent of Troy Polamalu, only faster.  Think the pack will ever try him out at Receiver in a pinch?

I think Woodson gets a bit of a  brush off by the media because of his intense, outspoken nature. I think he is just a little misunderstood.

    Bryce Paup

I don't know that I'd say Bennett or Paup were quite "dominant" when they played in GB. Very good, though.

I think part of the reason you may not see them as dominant is they were on the field at the same time for a few years. Those few years though they were putting up 24 sacks a season between them, they also played on some severly underacheiving teams. Paup was defensive player of the year the first year out of Green Bay. Bennett had four double digit sack seasons (2 in GB, 2 in Indy) before getting hurt and basically falling off the earth.

Brett Favres last pass to end each of the last 3 seasons was an interception.

I loved Newsome, too.  He just got it.  Plus, he didn't draw the yellow laundry from the refs.  The year the Pack won it all I'm pretty sure the first pass interference penalty called on him that year occurred in the Super Bowl itself.  Pretty impressive for a young guy.

    Very nice.  I'm borrowing it.

I think Woodson is the most underrated corner in the league. Even after this last weekend.
I live in CO and have to, (excuse me, I feel some bile in my throat), watch the Broncos - and all the talk is Champ Bailey, shut down corner. He's good - but Woodson completely blows him out of the water. Best move by TT, by light-years.

    Reggie/Butler/Woodson - that's VERY rareified air.
agreed. I'm too young to remember much about Herb Adderly. Sharper might've been on my list - had he stayed.

I've been waiting to see Woodson decline due to age - and he looks better than ever. That blows me away.
