Again, someone spewing what not they know. The Packers prepared heavily for this opponent...in fact, according to Bedard, disproportionately so for a second preseason game. Please, don't just post jibberish.

"Do you really think that McCarthy would have totally abandoned the run in a regular season game?" LOL...are you for real? No, he just saves that for conf championship games. How many times did he abandon the run game last year?

We all better hope for a much better showing against Den...the traditional reg season primer.

Thats rich AZ - I think your hero / deliverer Brett would disagree with this assessment.

As it was one of his stated reasons for retiring - that there was no GUARANTEE that he would win a SB with the Packers next season.

So with him gone (his choice) our goals and expectations should be ramped up?

There never a guarantee, Lamboo. Every season is different, you never know what will happen. But, I, like most would always try to play your best hand. You have to admit that one losing season in 16 is pretty darn good. Now, with the Packer roster perhaps at its strongest since the SB days, it shouldn't be unrealistic to expect a very good season. Remember a precedent has been set as well. Brady and Rothlisberger took their respective teams to the Super Bowl as rookies. If Rodgers is as good as you seem to think he is and the talent around him that you say is among the best because of the fine work of Thompson. Why shouldn't us fans expect a deep run? Rookie QB, so anything above last will again be a huge accomplishment? What are you saying? How successful do we have to be say that it is a successful season. Just asking a reasonable question.

What I said was for that season for the SF 49ers, they had a bad offense overall, that included a rookie QB, and that given what he had to work with talentwise it would have been a major accomplishment for that offense, with MM as coordinator, to not have finished last in offense. I was responding to your inference that because that team finished last, that MM might not be that good of a coach.

However, in reference to this year's GB team, while A-Rod is a first year starter, he does have some experience, and while we still have some questions at OL, I believe the talent on this year's GB team is better than the talent at SanFran in 2005. I do not expect them to finish last in offense, nor do I expect them to finish at the top either. They finished 2nd in offense last regular season - and while you can attribute some of that to both Favre's performance and McCarthy's coaching, I doubt we finish that high again this season. A top 10 offense is probably a realistic target.

Top ten overall would be acceptable. top 10 in NFC won't be. Every piece is in place for this team to make a deep run in the playoffs according to top management. 31 teams have a hard time with how their season ends or how it went...every year. Management feels they can accomplish a division title and a playoff run. Missing the playoffs would be a bust. While Rodgers may play some role in such a fate, one could not ignore injuries or other players and units playing below expectation.

To expect a Super Bowl or NFC Championship as your yearly measuring stick is to say the other 15 teams in the conference have nothing to say about it. Yeah, we want it but it is not easy.

Thanks Judge for living up to all my expectations. I love how you only choose to respond about one portion of someone's post and try to come out looking so righteous. You want to rest on your laurels and say that what he did with Aaron Brooks in New Orleans was spectacular than so be it. Not much to say about SF and Alex Smith huh? Naturally if my opinion doesn't jive with yours than of course I'm wrong. Nice double standard.

I've included my entire post for you to comment on if you like in case you missed it earlier. I don't mind a debate, but at least address all the points, or am I to believe that you agree with the other ones?

I will agree with Lamboo that early drops can change the complexion of the game rapidly and being only limited time to correct for the first team, the game may have looked worse that it was. However, regardless of drops, protection problems, etc. It is what it is. Four sacks in a little over a quarter of action cannot happen in the reg season. I said last week that I thought Rodgers looked pretty good, but the stakes are going up. The regular season will be here soon enough and the schedule is going to tough. We have to start looking better as an offensive rhythm. I don't quite see that yet. I have often posted that what Favre used to do PRE-SNAP was bascially lost on a lot of supposed good football minds on this board. There is a reason he took very few sacks in his career here. Although his achilles heel of throwing into coverage will always be there, he plays on instinct and is never afraid to make a throw.

    I truly believe Rodgers is afraid of making a mistake and will in the long run, hurt his performance. Once you start thinking that way, you're already in a disadvantage. Favre did a tremendous job of taking HIS TEAM out of bad plays. Making protection calls to pick up blitzes, etc. Checking into a run, or vice versa. All things Rodgers will learn and do better, but obviously is not even in the league of Favre.

   As I agree with Lamboo on many aspects of this team, I totally disagree that with him that McCarthy will figure all this out. I think you will find that he is a bit over rated. With lesser talent with the 49ers and Saints he was an awful offensive coordinator. With Favre he suddenly went 21-11 in reg season games and APPEARED to suddenly elevated his status.

   This will a true test for the team. The schedule is brutal and offense looks real sluggish.  And, I guess I just can't forget how poor of a game he called against the Giants that somehow we still had a very good chance to win. I will be the first one to admit I was wrong, but I think with McCarthy and the lesser talented football team with Rodgers I think we will see more of what we did in SF and NO. Wasn't he the guy that was suppossed to develop Alex Smith?

Great stuff Judge.

Even if he had been a "nobody" coordinator, he still had as much early success as, um, Vince Lombardi. Plus, in his second season, takes us to within a game of the Super Bowl with a bunch of young guys and a much more disciplined quarterback who went 8-8 the year before.

Oh, and won like 14 of 15 games during one stretch. Including: 06 Super Bowl runner-up, 07 Super Bowl Champion, the AFC west champ, and another Wild Card team.

Yea, we never should have hired him. I'll admit, I was confused with the hire, but like the way the team has been built and managed, results have shown convincingly we're on the right path.
