It's from an article in the LA Times after the Sabathia trade. You can only see it if you have an LA Times membership, as the articles are no longer free after a week...

For what it's worth...here it is. If you by chance have an LA Times membership...which I don't. I'm about 90% sure this is the correct article.

I completely agree. There's no way they can count on playoff revenue right now. Playoff revenue is gravy and should never be counted on when making the team's budget for the year, for obvious reasons.

If they go reasonably deep into the playoffs, I bet they break even at least.

Which is why I think they can maintain a $90 mil next year. Without taking into account of the extra revenue the playoffs and outstanding attendance the team will get this year, they're in the red. I'm pretty sure they continuously look at projected ticket revenue throughout the year when looking at their budget and forecasts. So I am certain that when Mark A says they will lose money with the $90 million payroll this year, he is already factoring in the great attendance this year.

SELLOUTS: 34 Does anybody think that the Brewers can sell out all of the remaining home games? I do. I believe that the Brewers are on pace for 3.1 million + in attendance.

So if we keep Cam and Kap, that takes care of two further fielding spots, and leaves us basically with a bench spot to fill (Counsell's), and maybe a bullpen hole, but with the arby for Fielder, Hardy, Hart, Bush, McClung, and some others, that probably puts our payroll around $80-$84 million thus far for 2009.

The problem is that I've heard the desired payroll is about $75m....

I thought Mark A was ready to have the payroll be around 88-90 mil? At least, it seems like $90mil is the highest payroll they'll be willing to spend. If the team makes the playoffs, I'm guessing this team will make enough money to foot that bill.

I didnt get to see the game, but it looks like the bullpen deserves an A today with four shutout innings. Villanueva pitched great in the spot I want him to pitch, Gagne got out of a big jam and Torres just shuts people down. Another inefficient effort from Parra, slowly pitching his way out of the playoff rotation. For some reason, I took last night's loss hard. We should never lose a game like we did last night. Can Sheets give me a month of all star pitching, I dont know.

The other thing I find a little disconcerning is Prince is really bad against LH. Bill Hall, wow how can you bring him back next year. Will he contribute much the rest of the year.

Cameron and Kapler, what can you say. I've done a complete 180 on Cameron and Kapler just makes GW plays every game. It really is a shame we cant play 4 OF.

Not unless they get a top-notch, young pitcher that has MLB experience

Of the three (Hardy, Weeks, Fielder), I think losing Weeks would hurt the least, but I'm not completely sure of that.

My #1 fear is that Melvin trades one of our infielders for a pitcher that doesn't put our staff over the top, and rushes Escobar to the bigs.

Given the fact that we have our guys in arby now, I want to see this team together for at least 3 years, and I do think we have a developing offense that will be good.

It's what I do (well, about 50 percent of the time, which is about the Brewers' success rate at games I attend. Could be worse, I suppose).
