I don't understand the comparison. There are no similarities. Let's take at how they compare coming into the NBA:

JJ vs BJ

Pos: SG Pos: PG

4 Year College Star 1 Year in Europe riding the bench

Questionable Athletically Uber-Athletic

Strength: Spot-Up shooting Strength: Athleticism and ability to create shots

Weakness: Creating own shot, athleticism Weakness: Shooting, possibly maturity

To be quite frank, I'm not sure you could have picked a worse comparison.

That is a pretty asinine list!

1. Failed college entrance exams. Who cares. Nobody will be asking him to analyze Shakespere or split an atom.

2. Skipped college. Who cares. Last time I checked, the two biggest stars in the league(LeKing and Kobe) skipped college too.

3. Played in Europe. What a dumb comment. This is the comment that really shines a light on the level of your basketball knowledge. European pro leagues are way more competitive than college. There are many guys who starred in college who cannot snif being on a team in the Euro league.

4. Didn't perform. Another idiotic comment. You have to look at the context. First of all, in Euro leauge, everyone has to share the ball so there are no dominant scorers. Second, he was an 18 year old and it was apparent that he was not coming back, so they are not going to waste their time developing him in games. Rubio got roughly the same amount of playing time that Jennings did and did less, h certainly isn't sweating it any.

Of course, there is no guarentte that Jennings will be great, but the reasons you are giving to cut him down are not very good.

it sucks but i'm not worried, half of the guys in the NBA that went to college wouldn't of made it if they weren't playing bball

wouldn't you to get paid? I wouldn't give my services for free. If your only staying for a year theirs no reason to go to college

Sure he didn't preform, but he was playing in the second best league and one of the top teams in europe. I'm happy with those numbers

Obviously people of ALL ethnicities grow up in EVERY kind of background (super rich to mega poor). I was addressing the particular instance of the NBA and by saying MOST- I am not saying all. I'm simply stating that the NBA is heavily (more then 1/2) supplied with young black men that don't come from very good backgrounds. I don't really see anything wrong with the way he talked to a friend on the phone. He's a 19 year old that has spent most of his life probably in far different circumstances then 90% of the fans that go to the Bucks games. I give him credit for getting past a lot of hurdles.

You might listen to that tape and think that guy is a punk or to use your direct quote - "should act as an adult" -first of all the guy will make more money and pay more taxes then 99% of adults. To my knowledge he has NEVER gotten in trouble with the law (and that was growing up in VERY tough circumstances where gangs and drugs are common place). A lot of the guys that come from this kids background communicate like this kid did- maybe not the way you roll (that's for Cubs fan with his comment a few back- was just a joke-sorry you didn't get it), but that's the way a lot of NBA players roll. These guys are basketball players, not doctors, pastors, lawyers, or people that hold public office. This kind of touches on how some people feel pro players should be "roll models"- I think that would be nice, but that's not their job. Roll models should comne from parents, family, police/firemen, and your religious advisor (if your religious). I think the problem with a lot of troubled youth is that they don't have two parents or maybe any parents that are around for them. They then look to pro players, rapers, and older gang members as roll models and there you have a problem. -that's onto a much more macro look at this though.

Actually, I never said that you said "black people can't grow up in suburban america". You never said that and I never hinted that you said that. HA!! This sounds like we're a bunch of 5 year olds arguing. I think we actually aren't that far off of being on the same page. I just don't want to use how a player grew up as an excuse to how they act once they become a profesional athlete. Like Plaxico Burress for example. He grew up in a not so nice place in Norfolk, VA. That doesn't give him an excuse to bring guns around with him in night clubs just cause he grew up ghetto.

I don't care if it's a basketball player, doctor, lawyer, politician, bus driver, garbage man or dentist. They are all professionals at what they do and need to hold themselves to a certain standard of professionalism. I feel if you're in the public spotlight, you are a roll model. You may not want to be, but you are. When you become a famous athlete or rapper. Like it or not, young impressionable children look up to you. You need to carry yourself accordingly. Of course their parents, school teachers, older siblings, grandparents or whoever may be in their life should teach them life lessons. But let's be realistic here. These young kids are not looking up to them to be roll models, they're looking at the rappers and ball players.
