I think Mr. Jennings has a bit of an ego.

"Luke Ridnour will be my back-up"

"Best Appearence"

"Best Dressed"

"Rubio is over rated"

You, Mr. Jennings, maybe be over rated.

Consistently failed college enterance exams

Skipped College

Played in Europe

Didn't perform (5.5 ppg, 1.6 reb, 2.2 assists, 1.5 steals)

Mr Jennings, you are a rookie.

That is a pretty asinine list!

1. Failed college entrance exams. Who cares. Nobody will be asking him to analyze Shakespere or split an atom.

2. Skipped college. Who cares. Last time I checked, the two biggest stars in the league(LeKing and Kobe) skipped college too.

3. Played in Europe. What a dumb comment. This is the comment that really shines a light on the level of your basketball knowledge. European pro leagues are way more competitive than college. There are many guys who starred in college who cannot snif being on a team in the Euro league.

4. Didn't perform. Another idiotic comment. You have to look at the context. First of all, in Euro leauge, everyone has to share the ball so there are no dominant scorers. Second, he was an 18 year old and it was apparent that he was not coming back, so they are not going to waste their time developing him in games. Rubio got roughly the same amount of playing time that Jennings did and did less, h certainly isn't sweating it any.

Of course, there is no guarentte that Jennings will be great, but the reasons you are giving to cut him down are not very good.

Re: Video of Brandon Jennings talking to Joe Budden - via Fanhouse

moreveggies_lessdoghnuts:

it sucks but i'm not worried, half of the guys in the NBA that went to college wouldn't of made it if they weren't playing bball

You completely missed what I said. I NEVER said the "majority of NBA players come from middle class". You totally made that up. I strictly said, "Who's to say black people can't grow up in white suburban America". That was in response to you saying "most NBA players come from tough living (gang infested) low income urban centers". If that's true or not, I don't know. Obviously it's a lot of guys, but to say "most". I'm not sure you can back that statement up. I think it's just you "assuming". I live in Culver City, which is 20 mins from Compton. So don't think I don't understand Compton. That was not my point. My point was he is now an adult man with a professional job in the NBA. MOST NBA players who grew up in the ghettos, like you stated. Turned out ot be great individuals leaving their gang infested life behind them. I don't use how someone grew up as an excuse to how they act as adults. Sooner or later, we all must grow up.

Your the one that missed the point- Where did I say that black people can't grow up in suburban america? That's an idiotic statement. Obviously people of ALL ethnicities grow up in EVERY kind of background (super rich to mega poor). I was addressing the particular instance of the NBA and by saying MOST- I am not saying all. I'm simply stating that the NBA is heavily (more then 1/2) supplied with young black men that don't come from very good backgrounds. I don't really see anything wrong with the way he talked to a friend on the phone. He's a 19 year old that has spent most of his life probably in far different circumstances then 90% of the fans that go to the Bucks games. I give him credit for getting past a lot of hurdles.

You might listen to that tape and think that guy is a punk or to use your direct quote - "should act as an adult" -first of all the guy will make more money and pay more taxes then 99% of adults. To my knowledge he has NEVER gotten in trouble with the law (and that was growing up in VERY tough circumstances where gangs and drugs are common place). A lot of the guys that come from this kids background communicate like this kid did- maybe not the way you roll (that's for Cubs fan with his comment a few back- was just a joke-sorry you didn't get it), but that's the way a lot of NBA players roll. These guys are basketball players, not doctors, pastors, lawyers, or people that hold public office. This kind of touches on how some people feel pro players should be "roll models"- I think that would be nice, but that's not their job. Roll models should comne from parents, family, police/firemen, and your religious advisor (if your religious). I think the problem with a lot of troubled youth is that they don't have two parents or maybe any parents that are around for them. They then look to pro players, rapers, and older gang members as roll models and there you have a problem. -that's onto a much more macro look at this though.

Actually, I never said that you said "black people can't grow up in suburban america". You never said that and I never hinted that you said that. HA!! This sounds like we're a bunch of 5 year olds arguing. I think we actually aren't that far off of being on the same page. I just don't want to use how a player grew up as an excuse to how they act once they become a profesional athlete. Like Plaxico Burress for example. He grew up in a not so nice place in Norfolk, VA. That doesn't give him an excuse to bring guns around with him in night clubs just cause he grew up ghetto.

I don't care if it's a basketball player, doctor, lawyer, politician, bus driver, garbage man or dentist. They are all professionals at what they do and need to hold themselves to a certain standard of professionalism. I feel if you're in the public spotlight, you are a roll model. You may not want to be, but you are. When you become a famous athlete or rapper. Like it or not, young impressionable children look up to you. You need to carry yourself accordingly. Of course their parents, school teachers, older siblings, grandparents or whoever may be in their life should teach them life lessons. But let's be realistic here. These young kids are not looking up to them to be roll models, they're looking at the rappers and ball players.

Re: Video of Brandon Jennings talking to Joe Budden - via Fanhouse

I'd like to throw this little article into the fray.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3243679

Might not clear up the argument, but extra information never goes amiss.

Re: Video of Brandon Jennings talking to Joe Budden - via Fanhouse

dsilby:

But when you're in the public spotlight and you're drafted high in the 1st round, you must be careful of what you say. The spotlight is now on you and the media makes a living on writing and printing controversial articles. I have no problem with what Brandon said, but you must be careful now that you're a "celebrity".

I don't know if that was the "public spotlight" - these guys are held to a unfair standard. Most of the people on these message boards are from white suburban america, where most NBA players come from tough living (gang infested) low income urban centers. This kind of talk may scare some white folks, but this is how a lot (if not most) roll.

Oh please. This guy lived in freaking Italy last year. I don't buy it what you're saying. When you say "most NBA players", lets call a spade a spade. You mean the black guys. Who's to say black people can't grow up in white suburban america? A lot of these black NBA players are smart college educated guys. I don't use how someone was brought up years ago as an excuse to how they act now as a professional adult.

And he grew up in Compton- (toughest area around LA). You don't have to buy what I'm saying- it's fact-just live in denial (it's probably easier). Yes- Most NBA players are black, come from urban centers, and more then half are raised by their mothers or grandmothers. I'm not saying ALL or by any means condemning these guys (it's a lot to overcome -I give them credit)- hell I am sticking up for this guy here -did you read? Your totally wrong if you think that a majority of NBA players come from middle class suburban america (or better). "College" educated? Come on friend- is your head that deep in the sand. MOST (again not all) of the guys who make it to the NBA were forced to go to college (by rule) or weren't quite ready for the NBA out of HS. Most of these guys use college as a stepping stone to the NBA. Staying in college now even raises red flags- look at this last Draft- some players were criticized for being older and staying in school longer (less upside).

AGAIN I SAY MOST (or a majority- more then 50%)- NOT ALL! It's by no way a condemnation on anyone who came up this way. In fact it is to their credit they were able to overcome some adversity - that I (and most of you) never had to deal with.

You completely missed what I said.
