Which takes us to trend No. 3. Because as much as teams are spending in pursuit of unrestricted free agents, it stands in sharp contrast to those of the restricted free agents on the market. Gortat struck a deal for an offer sheet from Dallas, but desirable commodities like Lee, Paul Millsap, Marvin Williams, Josh Childress, Ramon Sessions and Nate Robinson have barely gotten a sniff.

Moreover, the market for those players to get anything above the midlevel exception is basically gone. Unless they can persuade one of the above teams to join in the bidding, somebody like Lee or Millsap could end up settling for the midlevel exception or playing on a one-year deal for a scandalously low qualifying offer -- $1.03 million for Millsap, $2.68 million for Lee.

It doesn't get better for the others. Childress will likely have to head back to Greece if he can't work out a sign-and-trade with Milwaukee (it's possible, as a contract starting at $5.1 million in a sign-and-trade for Bruce Bowen and a draft pick works under the cap; the total value of a five-year deal with 10 percent raises would be $30.6 million), while Williams seems likely to play for the $7.3 million qualifier in Atlanta and try again a year from now. Robinson will likely have to leave New York and play for the midlevel exception somewhere, unless he gambles on playing for the $2.9 million qualifier and doing better next summer.

Re: Josh Childress

Rest assured, I am not Wisco. Me and him have actually argued against each other rather heatedly in the Brewers forum over Rcikie Weeks. My name is Jeff Steinhardt and I live in Pewaukee. Check with Wisco and I'm sure he can validate his own identity but take it easy and don't be so paranoid: not everyone who takes the other side of an isssue is not somebody posting under anotehr name, people do have differing opinions that's all.

Re: Josh Childress

aussiebob:

That is great for us, as signing Josh Childress would have been a terrible move. We need to see what we have and not add anything that will bog us down financially no matter what the cost.

The best case scenario is that everybody gels...Bogut has a great year, Redd comes back not missing a step, Jennings is awesome, JA and MnM improve and we make the playoffs, that would be great but unlikely.

Even if everything fails, we will be in position for a top 5 pick and that will probably yield an impact player. Teams in the past few years picking in the top five have gotten some great picks and this years draft is supposed to be great! Why add Childress at 4 - 5 million when all it will do is make us a bottom of the lottery team like we were this year.

If we are going to be good it will be because we got great injury free years from Bogut and Redd. Childress will not net us anything but a worse draft pick.

Re: Josh Childress

childress is in cleveland. therre goes that idea!!

Re: Josh Childress

Inside Pitch ):

umm consider that no way in hell that let go of joe for redd

and bibby made the comment today he's staying in ATL

another shoot down by wisco.

Why do people actually think we can trade Redd is beyond me. He IS NOT GONG ANYWHERE

BS. You dont know what the heck you are talking about. Redd can go in a trade! Just like Amare can and T-Mac can! Yes he can...

Now I am not saying he will be traded. But he can be traded! His injury is not as bad as Bogut's, Amare's or TMac's and they can be moved.

And there will be teams who want him! Why can't he go in a trade? Shaq went. How long do you think he will stay healthy and in shape? Redd is only 29 with one year left on his deal, not three!

He can feasible go in any deal just like Ray Allen can. Injuries are irrelevant. His injury is not impossible to come back from. 15 years ago, yes it would be highly unlikely.

But don't come in here ripping others who think he could be going and thinking you know for sure he can't or won't be going in a deal. Teams who are one player away and feel pressured by what the Spurs and Lakers did to get better and see their window closing can move and roll the dice for a guy like Redd.

Give me one good reason why he can't? Yes he can go in a deal like Josh Howard of Dallas can if they want to exchange him for Redd, and Josh was hurt all year too. Someone will sign Stephon Marbury and Allen Iverson too...

You can yell in caps all you want to...HE CAN BE MOVED!

And I say it is 50/50. But I think they should move Bogut instead, who no longer fits what they need to do and he will be in the way of Jennings...and can't hit a jump shot or free throws, nor command the ball in the paint.

I would actually keep Redd and get rid of Bogut. On second thought I would get rid of both of them in the right deal and start over.

Re: Josh Childress

Inside Pitch ):

REDD IS NOT HOING ANYWHERE people! NOBODY is going to take him on after his season ending injury and contract PERIOD.

This sounds astute and all and I might tend to agree with you, but this is not true either.

There are teams who take guys on after major surgery like teams will take on Amare Stoudemire after he had retina surgery a far more delicate and potentially serious injury then Redd's structural damage to his knee.

And Amare has had micro-facture surgery the year before and his contract is identical to Redd's. The Rockets might even be able to move Tracy McGrady and he might miss the first month of the season!

So while you argument is logical, it is not altogether impossible or out of the realm of probability that Redd could be moved in the right deal if a teams doctors feel he can be fit for them by Novemember.

All trades involve risks and are not like they were 10 ten years ago. Now teams trade contracts, and salary slots as much as talent for talent. A trade for Redd CAN BE DONE...

Anyone who says it can't is fooling themselves. Alot of teams will take him...The Bucks just have to be willing to move him, and that would be a type of deal that they would NOT BROADCAST IT BEFOREHAND or give you any hint that it is coming in the media or through rumor.

That is a move that will come out of the blue for obvious reasons so as to not lose leverage or leak a deal. And when or if it happens it will improve our team greatly. Because coming off a surgery like his, how effective can he run up and down with Jennings is a key. I would move him for Amare Stoudamire and Leandro Barbosa right now in a package.

In fact, I would try to keep Redd and move Bogut, but that is just me. It is Bogut who does not fit now, not Redd.
