The extra doe season combined with severe winters has destroyed the deer population. There were very few deer seen last season in our area. The DNR still feels the deer population is too high--they want to decrease it to about 750,000. According to their maps, we have a deer density of about 29/sq.mi. That is fewer than 2 deer per 40 acres, and they would like to decrease that density. I think the primary reason is the number of deer/auto collisions--the DNR gets great pressure from the insurance industry to eliminate deer. The DNR ought to tell the insurers to go to he**.
I agree, there is no need to go to a rifle, if it is a safety issue. with the rifled barrel's and the sighting on slug shotgun's .they are accurate enough to get the job done.

Re: earn a buck

Doesn't make sense - you would think they would want everyone out of the woods by then. As far as earn a buck goes, have been in that for years. I hunt in the Southwest corner, and we just don't get the huge bucks that they have up north, so in my mind, it is probably a good thing where we are as it gives the bucks a chance to get some size, as opposed to seeing all these people with spiked bucks and 4 pointers in their trucks.
