I'm sure many of you have heard that Vander Blue has supposedly decommitted from Wisconsin (nothing is official though). Badger fans keep claiming that he's going to Kentucky or NC or some other big name program. I assume that's because they just don't want him to admit that Marquette is in the running, but I suppose it could be true. Does anyone know more about this? What are the chances that he'll actually end up playing for Buzz?

According to Playground Warriors Director Ritchie Davis, Buzz Williams has extended an offer to Menomonee Falls freshman JP Tokoto. Tokoto already has a handful of offers including one from Bo Ryan and the Wisconsin Badgers.

I think this will be the first true recruiting battle between Bo Ryan and Buzz Williams, should be fun to watch over the next 18 months!

I've posted this on the two other Marquette message board but wanted to drum up some business here. I also wanted to give a defense for Rosiak and Ganzer who have probably been sitting on this to protect sources.

Rosiak and Ganzer were not beaten on this story. They probably knew about this sometime ago. My guess is Mark Miller and Dodds have also been sitting on this for awhile. (they had the name and background and were on the honor system) There were enough hints from these guys in the past few weeks.

Evan Daniels of Scout jumped the story a little ahead of what Buzz would have liked. I think Coach Williams would have preferred a fait accompli with everything wrapped up neatly. As a fan I would have be more than willing to wait until all the loose ends were tied up neatly without a chance of blowing this recruitment.

There's some information that needs to be sat on until the right time.

Mr,. Ganzer any thoughts on Mbao or the need to be careful about what is posted?

Even if the younger Jordan never pans out to be anything great...having Michael Jordan attend home games to watch his son play will really help out the recruiting for Marquette. Every school's always looking for a leg up, why not jump at this.

I had heard that he was interested in Marquette and vice versa so I did some Googling and found an article from February 9 that referred to him as "Marquette-bound Jamel Jackson."

I assume it was just a presumption and/or a writer who didn't do his research, but does anyone know anything more about this? He's a JUCO sophomore so he'd have 2 years of eligibility at MU. He originally committed to Seton Hall before the season but failed to qualify academically. He averaged 24.5 ppg at Technical Career Institute this past season.

does anyone know where MU is in the process of recruiting him? he's having a heck of a senior year at Marshall High School in the Chicago Public League and from what i read, his game and physical abilities are very similar to where McNeal was...i think another guard should be a top priority for next year since MU is recruiting anyway being over the limit...Jim, do you have any scoop on Smith?

This just in from one of my key Michigan contacts....

6'10 big man DaShonte Riley, from Detroit COuntry Day has decommitted from Georgetown, and appears to have Marquette on his final list of six schools . Riley has a strong interest in Marquette and they have offered him a scholarship. He will soon start taking some visits, both unofficial and official. He has four official visits that he can still take (one went to G'Town) and he is trying to determine which of the six schools that he is interested in will be the ones he will visit officially.

Recruiting Updates?

With reports circulating that HS senior Glenn Bryant, an uber-athletic 6'7" power forward from Oak Hill Academy, generally rated as 3-star, Top 150 player (garnering an 89 rating from ESPN), who was in attendance at the MU-Cincy game yesterday, indicated in a comment at the game that he would be playing for Marquette, and DaShonte Riley slated for a visit against West Virginia this Saturday, and Mark Miller predicting that MU would sign another guard before this class was ultimately finalized, I thought I would try a different forum to see what, if anything, insiders might know about the latest goings-on.

My questions, then, are threefold:

1) Is there anything to the Glenn Bryant rumors? If not an absolute confirmation, does anyone know if he has an MU offer that would make his committment even possible? The report emanated from a reliable and knowledgeable poster and reflected that Bryant's comment appeared to indicate that it was a done deal.

2) Is there a legitimate possibility that Marquette is looking for MORE than one additional player in the 2009 HS class?

3) If the answer to #2 is "yes," it's hard to imagine that one of the potential multiple additional signees would not be another guard, since this seems to be the thinnest area for next year and the most likely area where we could experience (a) personnel loss(es) amongst players currently slated to be 2009-2010 Golden Eagles. Is it fair to assume that if we DO have 2 additional guys coming in, one would likely be a perimeter-type player (even if not a traditional guard) to go along with a "best talent available" type inside player (Bryant/Riley)?

And, finally, a comment. If either Riley or Bryant wind up inking with MU, does the Roseboro signing wind up being something of a head-scratcher? I know that we've had trouble with quality big men the past few years, but a team projected to have McMorrow, Otule, Hayward, Maymon, Fulce, Hazel, Roseboro and either Riley/Bryant at the power forward and center positions (even conceding that Hayward and Fulce may get the bulk of their minutes at the 3) - with only Hayward graduating after next year, seems to be awfully deep at two inside positions (that would be 8 guys on a 13 man roster essentially for 2 positions (or 7 guys, if you move Hayward to the 3). I know that's a nice problem to have after the past few years, but being "inside heavy" doesn't strike me as being inherently superior to being guard heavy. And next year's squad, as of now, will only have Cadougan, Buycks, maybe Acker and Cubillan at the guard spots. Butler could possibly play shooting guard, but it's pretty hard to tell since the bulk of his minutes have come at the 4, and to a lesser extent, the 3. Offensively, this probably doesn't matter given Buzz's seeming goal for a flexible roster of small-forward-sized athletes playing interchangeably with a point guard and center, but defensively, we'll be facing elite Big East guards and will have to guard them.

I'll hang up and listen.

Interesting article out of TampaBay.com on Wake Forest transfer Jamie Skeen. According to the article, Skeen has interest from South Florida, Seton Hall, Marquette and VCU. Skeen had been at Wake for two years, and will transfer in January. Out of high school the 6'8 PF selected Wake over North Carolina and Florida.

Looking back - Kwamain Mitchell

Neither Marquette or Wisconsin ever really recruited Kwamain Mitchell that hard, maybe they should have....

Was looking at St. Loius' box scores to see how Kwamain Mitchell has been doing. The freshman from Dominican has started all 7 games for teh Billikins, and is averaging over 30 minutes per game. Other stats to note: 7.1 ppg, 4 assists per game. & 2.6 rpg. He is also shooting over 40% from the field. He does have a pretty high number of turnovers, but you can usually expect that from a freshman PG that is logging that many minutes.

As for Marquette, 6'7 Erik Williams from Cypress (Cypress Springs) TX, 6'0 Junior Cadugon from Humble (Christian Life) TX, and 6'6 Jeronne Maymon from Madison (Memorial) WI are all ranked among our top 25 seniors nationally, which is a lot higher than most of our competition; 6'3 Dwight Buycks from Indian Hills (JC) IA is a First Team Junior College All-American by the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) and is ranked #8 in the junior college ranks by JucoJunction; and 6'10 Brett Roseboro from Quakertown (H.S.) PA is one of the most improved players in the nation since last summer. In other words, none of these players gets the respect that they deserve, which means the Golden Eagles' recruiting class is extremely undervalued by most of our competition.

I stumbled across this on ESPN.com's recruiting page. It was a list of the top unranked recruits (ie not in the top 100) who are potential sleepers. Let's hope it's true!

1. 6-foot-9 C/F Brett Roseboro (Quakertown, Pa./Community High School)

Roseboro, whom we at Scouts Inc. rate as our No. 78 power forward, has signed with Marquette. Golden Eagles head coach Buzz Williams recently said, "Roseboro is, unquestionably, our least publicized recruit, but do not be surprised that in the end he could have the most value to our program." Roseboro was almost totally unknown nationally, and his signing with Marquette was one of the major shockers of this recruiting period; he is the only prep prospect Marquette signed who is not rated in the ESPNU 100. Roseboro is now a high-post player with good skills and an excellent shooting touch. He needs to become stronger and more physical to perform well as a center. Williams said, "His skill set is so high that he can ultimately play the high and low post for us. I believe that he will become an outstanding college player."
