Panther Basketball Broadcasts....

MILWAUKEE - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's basketball games will again be heard on Clear Channel radio stations this season.

For the third-straight year, UWM men's games can be heard on WISN (AM 1130), while women's games return to WOKY (AM 920).

UWM and Clear Channel are in the middle of a five-year agreement that provides for exclusive live radio coverage for each of UWM's basketball teams, as well as coaches' shows, special programming and promotional inventory.

Both teams make their regular-season debut Friday. The men will be on WISN beginning at 6:45 p.m. for a home game with Concordia-St. Paul. Meanwhile, the women will be on WOKY at 6:45 p.m. with a contest at Evansville.

Meanwhile, each coaches show debuts with a taped season preview tonight.

"Rob Jeter On Basketball" airs at 6 p.m. on WISN, followed by "Sandy Botham On Basketball" at 7 p.m. on WOKY.

Men's Gameday Programming on WISN

Bill Johnson returns for his 11th season as the play-by-play voice of Panther men's basketball.

Johnson, a Milwaukee radio veteran, is co-host of "The Game" along with Steve Haywood 6-8 p.m. weeknights on 540 ESPN. Plus, he hosts a variety of other on-air programming at Milwaukee's ESPN Radio, including Wisconsin Badger football pregame and Green Bay Packers' postgame shows.

The coverage of every Panther men's game begins 15 minutes prior to tipoff with Panther Preview. Johnson also does a complete, on-site postgame show - Panthers Rewind - following each contest.

The WISN team for men's games also includes the return of Bob Brainerd as host of "Panthers Extra ... Live from Major Goolsby's." The expanded postgame show airs following every home men's game, as well as after the game at the Bradley Center against Marquette. Former Panther star Adrian Tigert will join Brainerd as co-host of the show.

Women's Gameday Programming on WOKY

Scott Warras returns for his fourth season as the voice of Panther women's basketball.

In addition to his work with the Panthers, he can also be seen carrying out television duties for the state's Time Warner Cable Sports 32 coverage of high school, college, and semi-pro sporting events. Keeping close ties to his alma mater, Warras is the Broadcast Coordinator for Wisconsin Lutheran College and can be heard calling Warriors football during the fall. He also works as a producer for WTMJ Radio.

The coverage of every Panther women's game begins 15 minutes prior to tipoff with Panther Preview. Warras also does a complete, on-site postgame show - Panthers Rewind - following each contest.

Weekly Coaches' Shows

The weekly coaches shows - "Rob Jeter on Basketball" and "Sandy Botham on Basketball" - will air live from Harry's on Oakland in Shorewood throughout the season. Jeter's show airs from 6-7 p.m. on WISN, with Botham's show following from 7-7:30 p.m. on WOKY.

Following a taped season-preview show that will air Nov. 9, the live shows will start Nov. 30 for four-straight weeks. Then, following a two-week holiday break, the shows return for at least nine-straight Mondays.

The UW-Milwaukee Student Association announced that there will be a vote by the current students as to what the name of the University should be. The possibilities are to keep it the same (UWM), or change it to the University of Milwaukee (UMil). What do you think they should call the school?

MILWAUKEE – With the Vote Brewers! campaign underway and voting for the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in full-swing, the Brewers and UW-Milwaukee have planned a Vote Brewers! balloting party on the UWM campus tomorrow (Tuesday) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The party will take place at the UWM Union (2200 East Kenwood Boulevard).

Fans will have an opportunity to cast their votes via online balloting and by paper ballot. There will be laptop computers at the UWM Union and the first 1,000 people to Vote Brewers! during the balloting party will receive a voucher for half-price Loge Level and Terrace Level tickets to the Cardinals series, from May 25-27 (excluding Loge Bleacher seats).

In addition, the World Famous Klement’s Chorizo Racing Sausage will celebrate Cinco de Mayo at the balloting party, joined by the Klement’s Hot Dog Racing Sausage and Victor E. Panther, the UWM mascot.

Eight Brewers players are featured on the ballot for the 80^th^{Major League Baseball All-Star Game, to be held on Tuesday, July 14 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. This year, Brewers fans will again have the opportunity to show their overwhelming fan support by helping decide which players will be named to the Midsummer Classic.}^{Brewers players on this year’s All-Star ballot include 1B Prince Fielder, 2B Rickie Weeks, SS J.J. Hardy, 3B Bill Hall, C Jason Kendall, OF Ryan Braun, OF Mike Cameron, and OF Corey Hart.
In-park balloting at Miller Park will continue through Sunday, June 14, comprising 25 home dates. With every ten ballots turned in to the All-Star Polling District, fans will receive one raffle ticket that will enter them in a drawing for the opportunity to win a collector’s item daily, ranging from game-used memorabilia to player autographs.
Fans can vote for the Major League All-Stars online at brewers.com through Thursday, July 2 at 10:59 CT. George Koonce new AD

George Koonce was named new UWM AD today. Personally, I think he's the best hire of the group. From what I hear, he seems most dedicated to fund raising, which seems to be key for the athletics department right now. Some might think he's just a former athlete who was given this job because of his celebrity status, but that's not the case at all. Any other thoughts?

Can the Panthers pull off the upset? The Bulldogs have been playing good, not great as of late and rely HEAVILY on their outside shooting ability. Where it seems like no matter who they play, they always have someone who gets hot and carries the team, I think the Hinkle Fieldhouse faithful will walk away disappointed at least once this weekend (they play UWGB too). Any thoughts?

The Panthers are off to their best start since the '05-'06 season. Call me crazy, but I don't think even those closest to the team could have expected this well of a turn around after last year's mess of a campaign. Now, with the 2nd of five straight home games coming Friday night against rival UW-Green Bay, can the Panthers keep it up?

Wow...hardly on one posts here anymore...that is ok. I should be here giving some periodic updates and comments on the team the whole year as I do not like what I see from my Bucks so far.

College and high school ball around here is picking up so it is now time to get back in the swing of things in the Milwaukee area hoops wise.

As far as the game is concerned, it was good to see Avery Johnson and a host of other Panthers lay the smack down at ' the Cell' against that team from Iowa in a big rout. I had not seen the advertisement for the game and forgot to go and I really wanted to!

I was pissed when I read the article tonite and seen that I missed the game. But I will be at the Bradley Center when the Panthers meet MU on Saturday!

But back to the game on Wednsday: I read that a lot of points were scored without the aid of an assist which means the Panthers were obviously being very aggressive offensively and were able to get to the rim and finish with their attempts.

Loads of balanced scoring and you cannot argue with the shooting percentage of 60% and the margin of victory has to amp up their confidence and make them feel real good about themselves.

Great win... The Panthers built a 15-point halftime lead and then steadily extended the advantage in the second half.

Deonte Roberts added 12 points, James Eayrs 11 and Ricky Franklin 10 for Milwaukee (3-1).

The Panthers shot 60 percent from the field, the fourth-best performance in UWM's Division I history. UWM did it by regularly beating defenders to the basket. UWM scored 50 points in the paint and needed assists on just six of its 30 field goals.

Awesome followup to a disappointing loss to the Cyclones the other day. Shows some toughness, heart, character and resiliency to be able to rebound and get it done against an opponent you should beat on your own home floor.

UWM Is On Its Way Back!

UWM is back on track of respectability...with the leadership of head coach Rob Jeter...

They have a promising recruiting class coming in and a great foundation. I for one am pulling for Avery Smith to get his career squared away and address some accountability and maturity issues he needs to resume a promising future.

I missed watching Avery Smith play last year and you always like to see local kids do well here. Lets hope he is reinstated to play.

I like how Jeter has handled and is handling his program and he was actually on my short list to possibly be in line here at Marquette when Tom Crean left. But he is fine right where he is. One day he too will be as sought after as Crean.

I've checked on some of their players coming in and I like what I see. They now have some size up front with three 6'8 players. Even MU can't or has not managed to draw that.

So I am very interested in what transpires on the East side next year...I will be in full support of that program for sure.
