jpaul, the Redd to Cleveland jag started here on the Bob Boozer Jinx in late April. Let's take it back to the source. Why not chime in here? http://community.sportsbubbler.com/blogs/the_bob_boozer_jinx/archive/2008/04/28/redd-as-a-cleveland-cavalier.aspx

    Re: Redd to Cleveland?

here's the proposal from that cleveland link: "It can be done. It starts with Wally Szczerbiak’s expiring deal. That alone would get Redd by league rules. But Milwaukee will want more. So you throw in some talent. Maybe you have to part with Daniel Gibson (though you’d have to sign him first). Or maybe you do them a favor and take Bobby Simmons’ not-so-good contract in exchange for the expiring deals of Damon Jones and Anderson Varejao (he’s got a player option after next season). Maybe you toss in a draft pick. Find a combination they’d want and do it. Look, that’s not my job. I just think it can be done." Wally's contract and booby Gibson, in fact, IS the Bob Boozer Jinx trade. The Bucks could also use the Cleveland's #19 draft pick - DONE DEAL. I want my props, man! I may just have to write a post claiming them!! lol

I'll take a look at that thread, but I don't think Gibson, Szczerbiak and the 19th is anywhere near enough for Redd. I'd like to see how this group (with a couple of changes) reacts to playing for a new coach with a strong voice. I think the talent is there, but they definitely need direction.

I would hope Mr. Hammond wouldn't even consider this trade with the Cavs.  The only player they got is Lebron.  Maybe trading CV to the Cavs, but not Redd; we can get more for him.

Did anyone of you read the readers comments?  Someone said Redd was a "cerebral" player.

    Good one.

Yeah, saw that on the Scoresreport.com blog. Cracked me up too. Do you remember when we had Redd and Timmy in the starting lineup together in 2003-04? 'nuff said. Here's the link to Cleveland.com, where this started ... these Cavs fans are SERIOUS!!! http://blog.cleveland.com/cavaliers_corner/2008/05/paint_cleveland_redd_08_some_m.html#preview As for the Bucks getting more for Redd ... from whom? The list of teams in the market for a 35-minute shooting guard is short. Look at New Jersey in its attempts to move Jefferson: Are they even talking to the Bucks? They're going after Jermaine O'Neil and Carmelo. Denver? Even if Iverson moves to point guard, they've got JR Smith. Dallas? A real possibility -- but you know what Bucks fans will say to that? "We don't want Josh Howard. We can get more for Michael Redd." Utah and Kirilenko? When's the last time Jerry Sloan made a big trade? I'd just hate to see the story next season be: Can Michael Redd adjust to Skiles new offense? I'm afraid it would waste a year of Bogut's career, and Yi's too. And Charlie V's - if he's still a Buck.

    Re: Redd to Cleveland?

Sometimes people in Milwaukee don't think things clearly.  I know many folks have given up on Redd and for good reason.  He's had an opportunity to be paid and lead this team and he hasn't done it.  But I will say this, I do believe he is the most marketable guy we got.  Bogut is average, but getting better and Mo is average.  Yi and CV have shone nothing and neither in my opinion would return a starting caliber player unless some guy were to blossom or Hammond stole a player in the trade.  These two guys just aren't that good although some people think Yi might turn out ok (which I don't believe will happen).  Now Mike Redd is one of the better players in the league even if the folks in Milwaukee have given up on him.  That doesn't change the fact that he is a star quality player who happens to be selected for our USA team.  They don't pick average NBA players for this team folks. All I'm saying is you don't want to under estimate his value because you don't like him.  I will also say he is not the total blame why we sucked last year as the entire team including the coaching was just plain pathetic.  We might be surprised how much better the team plays even with most of the current roster with Skiles running things.  I do see the need to make changes in the players and might want to see what Skiles could do with Redd.  If we could get quality for quality, then maybe take a look at trade.

I'm the one who said that Redd is cerebral and I stand by that assessment. He's a bright guy, but he was selfish at times last season and I suppose that would give people the impression that he's not smart. Each offseason he comes back with an additional weapon in his arsenal, which shows that he recognizes the weaknesses in his game and works to improve them. He needs to refine his shot selection and improve his defense, but with good coaching I think he can be the #2 guy that the Bucks need. Now, if we could just find a #1 guy...

It's not just about last year. Redd's 110-170 as a starter since the max contract, and last year, things got worse, not better. Boobie Gibson playing a key role in the 2007 East finals against detroit is quality. The kid's good. Wally brings a lot of good things to a team as well. The other guy Bucks fans seem interested in is Varejao, who would be a big help to Bogut in the paint. If the Bucks were able to bring in Gibson, Wally and Varejao for Redd, would that be value enough?

You put Redd in Cleveland and Lebron has that extra weapon he needs for this team to make a serious challenge in the east.  What did these three other guys mentioned in this Redd trade do? Nothing which is why we would be stupid to trade Redd for this crap.  So it's all Redd's fault the Bucks have sucked the past two years.  What about that dumb-ass Kohl hiring three coaches that had no business as head coaches.  What about trading TJ for CV, or drafting that stiff Yi?  What about signing Simmons and Gadz to big contracts.  To say Redd is the reason for the Bucks ills makes little sense.  Apparently some folks must think Redd is pretty good because he is on our USA Team.

Boobie Gibson was a big part of how Cleveland got to the finals last year in those four straight wins in the East finals to beat Detroit -- as a rookie!!!  He's a good young player, had some injuries this year. Gibson and Varejao are the quality young players on the Cavs who could make a difference for the Bucks. Wally has to be part of it to make the $ work under NBA rules.

In any case, it's not about assigning blame, it's about making a change and a trarde with a willing trade partner, and clearing up some salary cap flexibility.  Varejao and Dan Gadzuric's contracts are about the same, dollar wise next season, a verry interesting thing if you're GM John Hammond.

No no no...Cleveland is no match in a deal for Redd at all!

If Hammond trades Redd to the Cavs who have no talent we need at all...much less a rival in the same division he needs to be fired before he even begins!

If that is the case then trade him to the Bulls...who have more of what we need in Hinrich and or Nocioni and a pick I would hate to see him go to the Bulls even more, but not if we can get a player of two from the Bulls for him.

Daniel Gibson and Anderson Varejo is not gonna get it done...on Cleveland's end unless you have a three team deal and the all get real creative.

Perhaps Milwaukee, New York, Utah, and or Chicago 3-4 team trade. Not a one or two team trade in the same division...  .

"If you get to the playoffs, yeah, you've done your job," acting manager Dale Sveum said. "But if you lose in the playoffs, you didn't finish the job."

    Re: Redd to Cleveland?

Even if the Bucks are dumping Gadzuric's contract on the Cavs? If the Cavs move Varejao, they will need backup help for Z and Big Ben, and Gadz's contract next season is an uncanny match for Varejao's. Not that this is necessarily a reason to do the trade, but it's something to think about. Varejao would be great help for Bogut, especially with Yi still developing his paint game.

There's always a reason to not do any of these trades being talked about. Take Chicago, for example: How comfortable will Bulls GM Paxson be about trading Skiles' players back to him? And would the Bucks have to give up Redd to get Hinrich and Nocioni? What then happens to Hughes and Ben Gordon? They'd have to be on the move, too.

The divisional concern, though, is not a reason or a concern. The NBA schedule isn't built around its divisions like the NFL -- the Bucks play more games against the Atlantic (18) and the Southeast (18) than they do against the Central (16). Ten years ago, before the change to the three division format, the Bucks played 28 against the Central and 26 against the Atlantic, which made the divisions a little more relevant, but that's only because there eight teams in the Central and seven in the Atlantic. The Atlantic teams played against the Central more than against their division foes.

25 years ago, when the Bucks played Cleveland six times a year, it mattered more, considering the Bucks only had four games against some of the Atlantic teams, but now the Bucks and Cavs go head to head only four times a year.

You do realize that Redd makes max money, right?  That makes it pretty tough to move him for full value.  A rumor that I have heard is Redd and Villaneuva for AK 47, Brewer, and Price.  Based on personnel, I love this deal.  Utah is trying to deal Kirilineko as well.  However, financially it won't work for Utah.  Deron Williams and Boozer are soon to be free agents and there is no way these guys get dropped and they aren't going to be able to afford Williams and Boozer's new deals along with Redd's.

If Redd is traded (and I don't think he neccessarily shoud be) I think a trade like Sczerbiak (expiring deal), Damon Jones (expiring deal), Delonte West, and a couple of first round draft picks for Redd and Villanueva is likely.
