It's Over for Melvin, Sveum..... and Yost's Coaching staff... plus
You and everybody else can now tell that this so-called party or lack there of is now over and thank God. For roughly 6 years we've had to watch and wait for this supreme talent to come into it's own... based on comments from one Doug Melvin & and Manager Ned Yost, whom lost his real leadership ability with a month of worthless losses earning him a seat at home. And his recent understudy Dale Sveum, has now to me at least proven that although he is keen in some of his coaching skills... the facts remain that he is simular in his sticking with guys that were worn down, and very much like his prior boss Nedley. At least lastnight we really lucked out with Torres because he was on the verge of giving it up, and very well could have but didn't. Today! not only going with a pitcher who's had his number plucked by the Phillies in Suppan, and really going with a guy who in every clutch situation the last month & a half in Corey Hart, and he has came up empty almost on every damn occassion with that low outside...... not even a **** strike but YES I'll swing at it anyway pitch. And again yes he was an All-Star this year SO WHAT he was a write in. He was more than in a slump.. he was mentally dead, tired.. what more do you have to see. For the lack of a better term it's now time to completely remove any and all of this Ned Yost school of thought and baseball mentality. This group of young talented men needs to be held accountable and inorder to do that correctly & possitively one needs to have a brand new philosophy around these guys inorder for them to grow as Men, and Professional Ball Players. Sorry Doug.... we're going in another direction. thanks for your contributions and your help..... good luck!
Dale, you absolutely gave us everything asked of you, but unfortunately for you and us We here in Milwaukee have to clean up thee mind-set in & around this clubhouse. Meaning... It's not exceptable as a Coaching staff to allow as many gaffs running the bases as this Team ran without being held accountable for. It is totally Unexceptable for a Coaching staff to have Spring Training and not work on a fundamental part of the game such as every member knowing how to BUNT. And as a Coaching staff it is REALLY unexceptable to continue running guys out there any & everyday not earning the money that they signed for. Accountability...... heck, I'm mad as hell and yes none of Us fans should take it anymore. "WE" all pay Our money at the gate to see performance on the field, and if certain players are going to get pissed because we voice OUR opinions so be it..... Hall & Hart just perform, or better yet take that crap you've been trying to sell us and see how it makes it in New York, or even Philly.... your butts will wish you were back in Milwaukee. Suppan, for the 42 million you signed for..... think about donating it to your favorite charity cause you've basically stolen it from the Brewer's. And in a word Melvin should get the axe for that alone... but he really had other things that helped push him out in Milwaukee. It had been 26 years since "WE" all went through something like this and if we just act like nothing happened we'll go through another 26 or more unless "WE" the people or if you will "WE" the fans continue to voice our opinions... and scream to the rafters that losing & playing without Accountability in this town willnot be exceptable anymore.
You want us to pay top dollar to come out to view this product, and fill the seats! Put out on the field a team and a Coaching staff that won't except not striving to be the best, and showing people all over this world that "WE" here in Milwaukee have a team that is being held Accountable all the way around.
Mr. Attanasio, you Sir..... have your work cut out, but thanks again for trying to get us to the promise land. Sadly.... GO BREWERS :^(

The Cubs and the Yankees spent twice what the Brewers spent on players and both have a big time manager. How many playoff games did they win with their big payrolls and big name managers? I'm not saying the Brewers don't need to improve but they had one of the best teams in baseball this year. When you get to the end the teams that are hot move on. The Brewers join the Cubs and most likely the Angels as teams who ran into hot teams and they were out of gas. Next year the Brewers have to rebuild their pitching staff and fill some holes with their position players. It will indeed be a challenge for them to field a team next year that can get into the playoffs again.

The question is whether or not Mark will give Doug another chance. Given the fact that this team made the playoffs, which was the goal this year, and has continued to take steps forward, I think ultimately, Mark will let Doug at least finish out his contract, which currently runs through 2009. The thing about Dale is the players really like to play for him, and really do want him back. Regardless of whether or not you think that's important, it is something that management will take into account when making decisions for this team next year. The same can be said for some of these other coaches, most notably Maddux, Sedar, and Castro. I, personally, don't think Sveum would be a smart choice for manager next year, but given the player's preferences (which could be a significant factor in trying to convince Sabathia to stay), and the fact that Dale was able to come through and deliver a playoff team in the last 12 games, I can see Sveum sticking around as the skipper next year. For better or worse, I don't think the changes you expect to be made next year actually will happen.

The Phillies werent' all that hot. Prior to today they only scored in three innings in the whole series. The 3 runs they got in game one never should have happened it Weeks make the catch at first or Cameron runs down a routine fly ball. I know it was hit hard, but a GOLD GLOVER has to make that catch.
The big 2nd run inning against Sabathia was a travesty. How the umpire doesn't ring up Brett Myers of all people on a 0-2 pitch that had the entire plate, makes me sick.
The fact of the matter is that the Brewers showed hard patience at the plate pays big dividends in game 3. And for some reason abondoned it in today's game.
Sveum's managing and lack thereof ultimately cost the series. It was nice to have our team in the playoffs though, even if was for just a few days.
Hind sight is only 20/20, but I sure would have liked to seen what Yovanni could have done. We had huge momentum coming in to Game 4, and if Gallardo would have pitched like he did in game 1, I think we're making arrangements to travel to Philly for game 5.

Why shouldn't Doug get a chance? He got us to the playoffs, something noone has been able to do for 26 years. Every winter I'm excited for the meetings because I know DM will make some moves. Dale should definitely go and if DM keeps him I may have to rethink my position on DM
He needs to get us a number 1 or 2 pitcher and one 1st class reliever and I think if we move Hardy to 3rd, Escobar to ss, Weeks to 2nd, Prince at 1st, Braun in LF or RF , Hart or Gwynn in CF, Gamel in RF or LF (he will have to play all winter to learn the position) Kendall and Salome catching we will have a competetive team and one that the fans would want to see with a mixture of fan favorites - Hardy, Braun, Fielder and rookies - Escobar, Gamel, Salome. And he needs to get us a coach that has a track record, not a novice who will bring with him a good hitting coach.

Melvin should go becuase the offense is putrid and has been for multiple seasons and he has failed to address the problems and the only reason they made the playoffs this year is becuase the Mets sank like the Titanic. The problems they had this year on offense were the same they had on offense last year. I have no reason to expect after failing once that he will all of a sudden succeed. The guy has no clue what a contact hitter looks like. He did a nice job in making the team competitve, but it's time to bring someone in who understands how to build an offense, not fill a roster full of undisiplined free swinging hacks. Melvin must go.

The Brewers scored 9 runs in 4 games and 4 of those came in one game. They didn't lose this series because of two plays. They lost because since September 1st they have been a terrible offensive baseball team.

Escobar is not ready to be an everyday starting shortstop in the majors, especially on the offensive side... Also, i think Hardy is going to want nothing to do with moving to 3rd and you really can't blame him... I am still amazed how eager people are to get Hardy at shortstop or get rid of him to make room for Escobar... hardy was the most consistent player on the Brewers all year and is one of the all around best 10 shortstops in all of baseball.... Also they're not going to move Gamel yet, he's shown improvement at 3rd and they believe he has the ablity to play 3B in the majors someday.... I don't think Gamel, Escobar, or Salome are ready yet to be an all year, everyday player in the majors... They're all about 2 years away..

For manager, name one who could have done better and gotten these guys to play looser and harder the last 12 games. For GM, name one who was better the Brewers could have had. Why is everybody ready to declare Escobar ready to start at SS when he has had a grand total of four at bats above AA? I think the eventual move should be Hardy to 3B and Escobar to SS (he IS ready defensively and the plays aren't any harder in the bigs, unlike the pitching) but for christs sake, lets not anoint the guy pope yet.

Well, MA has to decide on Melvin before anything else is done. Since Melvin's going into his final year of his contract, MA is either going to have to fire him or extend him. From the sounds of his comments yesterday, it's a good bet MA will give him an extension. We should know by the end of the month.

I doubt it will take to the end of the month. I bet more like 2-3 weeks. Its all about if Doug Melvin wants to be back and by the sounds of everything it will still be MA and Doug and Gord Ash in the front office

For the clueless minority of you who want Melvin fired, get ready to be disappointed...
MA is already on record stating extending Doug Melvin is his top priority in this offseason.

Re: It's Over for Melvin, Sveum..... and Yost's Coaching staff... plus
I'm assuming that Attanasio will give Melvin an extension. You can make arguments on both sides, but he put together a young squad that made it into the playoffs, so it would be difficult to justify letting him go. I don't know about Svuem coming back. This is the time to clean house if they're on the fence about that group.
Baseball is a game of the long season, of relentless and gradual averaging-out. Irrelevance—since the reference point of most individual games is remote and statistical—always threatens its interest, which can be maintained not by the occasional heroics that sportswriters feed upon but by players who always care; who care, that is to say, about themselves and their art. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter’s myth, he is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.
