    Nate McLouth?

I keep seeing write ups referring to some teams trying to sign him.  Not sure of his status.  Do you guys feel this might be a better option than Cameron?  He's young, hits for average and power, and plays adequate centerfield.  Once we come to terms with not signing CC this team will have to take a few steps back.

This in my opinion means we should not sign Mike Cameron.  It just doesn't justify 10 million for another year.  We need to adjust this lineup next year.  Weeks, Hall, and Cameron need to go.  I like the idea of having the lefty McLouth in one of the top three spots next year.

I would love Nate McLouth to be in centerfield for the '09 Brewers.

He's not a free agent, you'd have to trade for him.

Since he's still young and a proven commodity, do the Brewers bite the bullet and trade a couple of their top prospects for McLouth? In this case I could see trading Gamel or Escobar for McLouth. I'm not sure how much longer he would be under contract so that might be the deciding factor. Another thing to consider, if the Brewers traded for Mclouth, they could then trade Hart and move Mclouth to right field, or Cameron to right field. Hart could be part of a package to bring in another 3rd baseman or a pitcher. Melvin has a lot of options at his finger tips. It could be one of the more interesting off seasons the Brewers have ever had.

I really like the idea, I Would give up esco for him BUT only if they took soup or Hall.  McClouth had one good year, and I'd hate to trade for him and sign him long term and him turn out to be another bill hall.  They would be getting a very good prospect for a one year stud, then again it the pirates so who knows how open they would be to taking on salary

    1)  The Yankees want Nate McLouth.  I'd rather not get in a bidding war with them, as they'll get what they want in the end.  Especially after this season's disappointing season.

    2)  I would not trade Alcides Escobar.  Sorry.

    3)  The Pirates might actually like Jeff Suppan quite a bit.  They traded for Matt Morris, after all.  He'd be an innings eater and a mentor for the young pitchers in Pittsburgh.

    4)  McLouth has to have a bit more of a track record before I'd even think about giving up a Top 5 prospect for him.

Bill Hall + Jeff Suppan FOR Nate McLouth = steal for Pittsburgh

Is there anyone that was convinced by that?  Okay...me neither.  Maybe Neil Huntington is.

    Prince Fielder Trades

I don't think the solution to the Brewers' biggest problems involves Fielder. First, they need a manager. I recommend Geoff Jenkins.

Spend their money on CC. If they keep CC, their pitching isn't their worst problem either. They need third and second basemen who can hit and goodby to Weeks and Hall.  Crede is going to be around from the White Sox. He'd be great if his back isn't an issue, which it probably is.

I'd just play Counsel regular at second and hope for the best. I'd play Branyon regular at first if they trade Prince.

I sure hope your real name isn't Doug Melvin. If it is, the Brewers are in BIG trouble with you making the decisions.

Weeks + Hall + Suppan for McLouth

    Three players with playoff experience

    How can Pittsburgh say no?

The Brew will go with Gwynn and not resign Cameron. I think there is a high chance prince is traded for a Pitcher. Just can't afford CC = not going to happen.

Can't they get a legitimate major league player to replace Cameron?

    I mean, Gwynn? Really?

    Re: Prince Fielder Trades

Scouting reports I read on McLouth said that he was a below average centerfielder.  He can probably be a consistent .350 OBP guy, but this power spike is out of the norm when you look through his minor league stats.  He was 26 this year, so maybe he's actually developed some more power, but trading for him and expecting 25-30 home runs might be a little much.

Baseball is a game of the long season, of relentless and gradual averaging-out. Irrelevance—since the reference point of most individual games is remote and statistical—always threatens its interest, which can be maintained not by the occasional heroics that sportswriters feed upon but by players who always care; who care, that is to say, about themselves and their art. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter’s myth, he is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.

I will be utterly depressed if Gwynn is our CF next season.  Can we have someone that maybe will have a .700+ OPS?

You could probably add Gwynn's BA to his OPS and still not exceed .700.

I feel the same way about Soup and Riske

To be proven wrong should be celebrated for it is elevating someone to a new level of understanding and awareness
