I think there are almost certainly better ways to spend the resources we have.
Huff has an 8 million dollar contract this year, so figure you have to pick up 3-4 million of that depending on when you trade for him. Attanasio says there is money available, but if you make that deal and someone better (specifically a starting pitcher) comes along, then you're probably stuck unless that guy costs nothing. If you want the O's to pick up a big chunk of that salary, you probably have to give up a big prospect or two to make it happen, like the Dodgers did to get Casey Blake (they actually gave up less to get Manny, because they took on his salary).
It's not a terrible idea on the surface, but I don't think the cost would be worth the benefit of basically a bench upgrade.
