This zone is ridiculous already and Soup is nibbling.
No matter who is in there, we have to find a way to throw the ball better for us to have success. I think when you are constantly behind in games, it is not easy and it is not fun. Their starting pitcher was clearly better than ours this series.

Re: Crew @ Cubs Game 2 Gamethread: July 3
I didn't start Derrek Lee on my fantasy team last night since I refuse to give myself even the smallest rooting interest for the Cubs when they're playing the Brewers. I hope this f#cker breaks a leg or something today.
Baseball is a game of the long season, of relentless and gradual averaging-out. Irrelevance—since the reference point of most individual games is remote and statistical—always threatens its interest, which can be maintained not by the occasional heroics that sportswriters feed upon but by players who always care; who care, that is to say, about themselves and their art. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, he is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.

Jim Breen: Einsteinhood: Wow, REALLY small zone today. Advantage, Z-bag.
The strike zone was really small yesterday too.
Don't know where the 2-0 to Theriot caught the zone. Weird call.

Some news on Ben Sheets if anyone is interested.

9 pitches for Suppan, quite a difference from Sasquatch's first inning nightmare last night.
Mr. Semantic aka Pudge wants to go back to the future, he misses the old JSOnline ad nauseam.

I like guys like Juan Pierre offensively. Good BA (over .320), and basically when he does, he's automatically on 2nd because he can run. That's like having a double's hitter. Only issue with him is his horrific arm in the outfield.
No speed and an average under .250 - even if they hit 30 HR's - isn't worth it to me.

Look at that AB on Gameday.... Suppan gets a foul and a called strike to get ahead 0-2, then Kendal doesn't call for another pitch NEAR the zone again. Fortunately, Lee liked the low/away slider (I guess other hitters get fooled on that too?) out of the zone, but Kendall needs to trust the guy a LITTLE more than that, right?

Brewers making it easy on Z today... Brian needs glasses - that wasn't hit that far.

That's it Brian - the "wind" is keeping the ball in the ballpark. Derrick Lee had no problem last night hitting it out of Wrigley.

No sh*t? alffan: Good BA (over .320)
not routinely. alffan:and basically when he does, he's automatically on 2nd because he can run. That's like having a double's hitter.
Um, no it's not at all like that. alffan:Only issue with him is his horrific arm in the outfield.
And the total lack of any sort of power.... That's not important because...wait for it....HE'S A LEADOFF HITTER! alffan:No speed and an average under .250 - even if they hit 30 HR's - isn't worth it to me.
We know. You're not a guy who likes "good" ballplayers and you're stuck in some 1960's fantasy of player value. We know.

Yeah, the wind never ever changes direction or anything.
