That's it Brian - the "wind" is keeping the ball in the ballpark. Derrick Lee had no problem last night hitting it out of Wrigley.

Soup needs that low pitch to be a strike to be effective.

Jason Kendall can throw someone out every once in a while.

Baseball is a game of the long season, of relentless and gradual averaging-out. Irrelevance—since the reference point of most individual games is remote and statistical—always threatens its interest, which can be maintained not by the occasional heroics that sportswriters feed upon but by players who always care; who care, that is to say, about themselves and their art. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, he is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.

    Good throw, Kendall.

Credit Soup for keeping him close, too.

    alffan:
I like guys like Juan Pierre offensively.

I'm not really trying to be a dick, but then you really don't understand how to score runs.

    alffan:
    Good BA (over .320),

    He's a .301 hitter for his career - and only a .348 career OBP.

    alffan:
and basically when he does, he's automatically on 2nd because he can run

Not at all.  Between walks, HBP, and singles, he's been at first approximately 1700 times in his career (and that doesn't include ROE or FC).  He has 451 SBs.  He's been caught 150 times.  75% is hardly automatic for SB%, and only getting to second under 25% of the times you're on first is basically the opposite of automatic.  I'll take someone who actually hits doubles.

    alffan:
No speed and an average under .250 - even if they hit 30 HR's - isn't worth it to me.

What OFs do the Brewers have with no speed and hit under .250?

Ask any GM in baseball who they would rather have: Mike Cameron or Juan Piere, and the answer will be unanimous.

Isn't Memorial Day for the military?

If that hit isn't off the wall, I don't know what will be.  JJ really got into that one.
