    Creepy:

Considering Greggs teams finished 25-37-1 over four years it is hard to believe he played on 5 NFL Championships.  Also, Thompsons first year was 1987, which was Greggs last and they finished 5-9-1.  This is the year the great QB Alan Risher lead GB to 2 wins and 1 loss in the strike season.  That means the pros went 3-8-1 and I can now easily see why Thompson asked.

Gregg took Cincinnati to a Super Bowl in '81 and was respectable with the Browns. I'd say he was a competent, if not great, head coach who got deep sixed by the problems endemic to the Packer organization at the time.

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

Maybe it's dumbness-neutral, but I enjoyed what I could catch of his fielding questions from sports reporters. Always got the sense they were jockeying for preferred spots in the back row as he was an intimidating presence.

     Jarret Bush anyone?

I would have said Jarrett Bush but he is now making over 1 million dollars a year for some unexplained reason. Therefore my vote goes to Anthony Dilweg. He was an Ivy League QB who was suppose to be extrmemely intelligent. However his exploits on the field told a completely different story.

Leave it to Ace to be hatin' on Packers/coming up with negative angles to chat about.

Ace, I didn't know it was possible for you to get even more stupid than you are already, but this takes the cake.  Dilweg went to Duke.  Duke is in the ACC, not the Ivy League, dumb @ss.

We may not have established who the dumbest Packer is, but I think we've identfied who the dumbest poster is, by far.

Row 67 maybe you should be talking about cheesecityfan. He apprears to be the angry old man again. Notice hsi choice to call me names and insult me when all I was doing was sharing what I remember.  I said nothing negative towards anyone. I simply gave my choice for the dumbest Packer ever in my opinion.

    1) You called Dilweg an idiot.  He wasn't.  There's a big difference between being dumber than a pile of rocks and knowing what you're supposed to do but not getting it done on the field--for whatever reason.

    2) You, of all people, judging that category?  Really?

    3) You made Duke an Ivy League school. Just fess up and admit that you don't know jack about most football trivia and I'll ease up on you.

Cheesecityfool, who cares if it was Duke, Princeton, or Yale. He played at a terrible football program. He never should have been drafted by the Packers The announcers before games would say what Dilweg lacks in Physcial Talent he makes up for with hit intelligence. Then the game would come and he would make some of the worst plays any Green Bay QB ever made. Unlike you, I dont google every post I make before I make it. All of us here could be superior Packer Historians if we wanted to we google everything we posted. Also I don't care to plagerize and steal stories from other message boards, blogs etc. I post from what I saw and remember and was a part of. Thats what real fans do. Problem is, Ace, you do this stuff all the time.  You never fact check yourself; you pull stuff out of your large colon and then cry when you get called on it.  I don't plagerize.  I remember the vast majority of the stuff I use and what I don't I'll cite the source.  Now, if you want to go on the facts about Dilweg, we can do that. Here, IMNSHO, is what we can say about Dilweg.

    1) He's not an idiot.  He's got a business degree from a good academic degree and has run a successful investment business.

    2) He had a decent year in 1990 up until the second Vikings game.  You probably don't remember it, but when Majik was holding out he started the first two games of the '90 season and was voted NFL Player of the Week in week 1 for his performance.  He rallied the team for a come-from-behind victory in the Cardinals game when Majik got injured and played better than adequate against TB the next week in a 20-10 victory.  Then the wheels just fell off in the Metrodome the following week.  I chalk it up to a collapse in his self-confidence and his pocket presence--which made him prone to hold on to the ball too long--just fell apart.  He was horsefur after that.

    3) There's a huge difference in being as dumb as rocks and not having native intelligence (as you could make the case for Fullwood, Carroll, Marshall, Walker, etc.) vs. losing poise and confidence when you're out on the field.

He was an idiot. I recall interviews where be blamed everyone but himself for is awful descisions during the games that led to so many turnovers. He reminded me of how Mike McCarthy is now. So he took his NFL money and invested it and was succsessful during a period of time when investors made more money that any other time in our nations history, big deal. 10,000 other former NFL players did the same. You like to stick for the people are arrogant but don't have the goods (Dilweg, TedThompson) to back it up. They must remind you of yourself.

You like to stick for the people are arrogant but don't have the goods (Dilweg, TedThompson) to back it up. They must remind you of yourself.

    Let's break this down, Ace.

    1) The blaming of others was not what I remembered about Dilweg.  That's not to say it couldn't have happened, but my first impulse, given what I know and I remember and how usually reliable it is, is to give me the benefit of the doubt.  Now, if you want to show where I'm wrong, I'll be the first one to acknowledge it, and publicly.  But you can't give me the very convenient, "I heard it on the radio" or "I saw it on TV" which can't be verified.  Give me a written citation, some proof, and I'll admit I was wrong. Until then, I'm assuming that I'm right, and most of the posters on this board (except for your "amen corner") would agree.

    2) Even if Dilweg was of the blame-it-on-the-others type, it doesn't indicate stupidity, but a lack of responsibility. And you might not want to go down that path.  It seems to me we picked up QB not long after Dilweg left that often blamed others for most of the picks he threw (ran wrong route, didn't get separation, ran into coverage, etc.).

    3) Successful investment wasn't always a lock, and lots of "smart" people got it wrong.  But Dilweg didn't just invest wisely, he founded and ran his own successful investment company.  That's not the hallmark of an idiot.

As my Grand-daddy once said, "Don't get into a spray fight with a skunk." Except he didn't exactly use the word "spray."
