9/8 Game Thread: Parra vs. Smoltz

Counsell at 2B, Patterson in RF

    Sept. 8, 2009 3:41 p.m.

Craig Counsell hits .474 (9 for 19 with two walks) for his career against John Smoltz, so that's the likely reason he's in for Felipe Lopez.

Jody Gerut is in right for Mike Cameron for the second day. Cameron is out with a hamstring tweak and probably won't play until the end of the week. Corey Patterson is in right despite Corey Hart being activated today.

    BREWERS
    CF Corey Patterson
    2B Craig Counsell
    LF Ryan Braun
    1B Prince Fielder
    3B Casey McGehee
    RF Jody Gerut
    SS JJ Hardy
    C Jason Kendall
    LHP Manny Parra

    CARDINALS
    2B Julio Lugo
    SS Brendan Ryan
    1B Albert Pujols
    LF Matt Holliday
    RF Ryan Ludwick
    3B Mark DeRosa
    C Yadier Molina
    CF Rick Ankiel
    RHP John Smoltz

    Are you talking to me?

Macha sure has some serious man love for Jody Gerut, doesn't he?

Wow what a great lineup of hitters for the Crew--why does Kendall play every day especially tonight when Parra is pitching?

Does anyone think Macha will be manager next year the way he screwed up the team?  Oh come back Ned Yost!

Brewers will continue to lose and will finish up below the Reds but maybe ahead of the Pirates

Is Patterson playing in CF or RF or both?

New idiotic defensive scheme. Send 2 players to right. Evidently, Cameron should normally have been playing in right field for the past 2 days. Witrado, what a dope.. JS is cutting a lot of payroll. I guess you settle for guys who don't read what they write.

Ty Cobb: "I believe I can truthfully say that I can hit equally well into either right or left field and generally at will. ... I will claim that when I am going right, I can drive four out of five fast balls within fifteen feet of where I want them to go."

The first 8 Cubs got hits tonight so that's not going to work too well :-)

The Brewers really have one thing to play for at this point and that would be to try and finish above .500 and pass the Cubs.

But they're going to have win a few series here to accomplish that.

No matter who is in there, we have to find a way to throw the ball better for us to have success. I think when you are constantly behind in games, it is not easy and it is not fun. Their starting pitcher was clearly better than ours this series.

Rivera is playing according to Rock - not Kendall

And Rivera is listed on the GameDay lineup as well.

Guess the JS had it wrong.

Hopefully Manny can deliver another good start... when are the Brewers gonna drill Pujols... do they wait until the last game of the season?

Holliday has 39 RBI's in 41 games... hitting behind Pujols...  amazing
