    Bogut looks to get untracked

    Bogut looks to get untracked

    Nov. 2, 2009 3:30 p.m.

St. Francis – Bucks center Andrew Bogut is doing fine physically. Now, he says, it’s just a matter of getting his mind right.

Bogut, coming back from a serious back injury that caused him to miss 43 games last season, opened this season by turning in a couple sub-par performances last weekend in the Bucks’ first two games. He had eight points and six rebounds in 31 minutes in the team’s season-opening loss in Philadelphia last Friday. He then finished with six points and eight rebounds before fouling out in 27 minutes in a victory over Detroit Saturday that opened the home schedule.

“Not too good, obviously,” said Bogut when asked to assess his play in the first two games. “I struggled offensively…it’s a matter of just getting my legs back under me and getting some confidence again. It’s as simple as that.”

Bogut’s struggles last weekend are somewhat understandable in that the Bucks were very cautious in bringing him back from his injury, he played only limited minutes in some of the exhibition games and sometimes didn’t take part in full practices.

Coach Scott Skiles said that Bogut didn’t move around very well and didn’t look like himself against the 76ers, but thought that Bogut looked better in the second half against Detroit and made a couple big plays.  Skiles said that it was important to keep in mind that, prior to last weekend, Bogut had not played in a regular-season game since last January.

Bogut made 4 of 9 shots against Philadelphia, and 2 of 7 against Detroit.

It’s more mental for me,” said Bogut. “In Philly, I missed a bunch of chippie shots and easy shots… a couple of easy layups. The same in the Detroit game, I just couldn’t get going, obviously playing against a very good defender in Ben Wallace. I try to be effective in other ways, rebounding and defensively, but it’ll come. I’m not too worried about it. I’m obviously not too happy about the way I’ve played the last two games but there’s 80 games left.”

Asked what he was most concerned about, Bogut said, “Just getting my explosiveness back. I’m still lacking that game explosiveness. It’s easy to do here in practice but just getting confident where I can catch the ball and really explode.”

Charlie Bell will start for the injured Michael Redd Tuesday night in Chicago and Bell said that he would need to hit some shots and make it easier for Bogut inside.

“There’s going to be a lot of pressure on Andrew and I think I need to be one of those guys on the offensive end that’s going to have to step up and try to make things happen," said Bell.

    Are you talking to me?

I'm very concerned about bogut not so much about his recent play but when I learned his going to have to deal with his back problem the rest of his life thats a huge red flag.

Where did it say he is still having problems with his back? He has said his back feels fine.

I'm pretty sure it was in one of the rehab posts during the summer from js

I think it is just a little of him being a little over cautious and getting back into the flow of the game.

Hello everyone, it’s been a while since I last blogged. I made a commitment to get through the first two weeks of training camp and so on without any distractions. Sorry if you missed the posts but I will get them started again.

Starting off, camp went well for everybody. We had a solid week of training, most the guys picked up Coach Skiles’ system very quickly, both offensively and defensively. This helps, and lets us move on to other parts of our game that needs tweaking. We are currently 2-2 in preseason. People will tell you preseason games don’t mean much, and sometimes they have a point. For us though it’s a different story, we need these games to mesh with one another, we have a bunch of new guys here, so the more preparation type games we have the better.

On a personal note I have played in all four games so far. The first two games I only played the whole first quarter. The last games I played most of the first and third. It’s a slow progression but it seems to be working as my body feels pretty good, besides general tightness which I must stay on top of with massage, stretching and core work. As far as my game goes I feel pretty confident with some of the things I have been working on with the assistant coaches. Obviously my FT’s have been high 50’s low 60’s my entire career. I’m working toward getting that number up. Defensively I feel pretty good, getting a head start being here last year helps me grasp what Coach wants out of me defensively.

We have a handful of preseason games left, and before you know it the season is open us. We have a tough start to the year playing against some pretty decent teams in the first month, but we will be ready for the challenge.

Ill get more up when we have a day off with some off court news. Also keep posted I have exciting news for local Milwaukee fans coming in the next few days or so!

he doesn't really go into depth with his health other than he needs more core work.  Since it was a lower back injury he could go be talking about that but its stretch you gather anything from two sentences

I guess if your going by his blogs his next one would have moe information since this blog was done two weeks before the season started when they were babying his minutes if I recall correctly

I put the over/under for wins this season at '2' for games where Bell plays over 30 minutes. 0-1 so far

Re: Bogut looks to get untracked

Heyyyy....wait a second...Let's not load the burden of losses on Charlie Bell's efforts...This team will be on a learning curve, at least, for a month or two...and you can't expect to see Michael Redd numbers, from Charlie...surely enough...

I think a more telling stat to look at is FREE THROWS taken by the other team...If the other team is getting 20 more free throws, you can do the math as far as losses will be piling up...

In some ways, the refs will be our opponent also...at least that has been the trend so far...

     Back to Bogut...

Bogut probably will get "on track" when we hit the middle of that BC homestand in November...He's got his own special cheering section in Section 212 of the BC...to cause a ruckus and pump up the team and the crowd...It's called SQUAD 6...

But I still expect Gadz-o-matic to be in the game, in the last 2 minutes, at crunch time, because Bogut is still having fatigue issues, whether he admits it or not...I know that makes alot of people cringe...but so be it...Skiles calls the shots...and Danny G will get the nod, for now...

somebody has to score, even more with Redd out, and Bogut isnt doing that, so far. I expect more mins for Gadz actually.

That is a horrible mix. One can't hit layups and score in the low post off great feeds from Jennings and another can't finish strong without getting hurt!

You look at names and not talent. Both Bogut and Redd do not fit Jennings style of play at all. The sooner you and the Bucks realize that, the better off we will be and start building a team like Sacramento and Memphis with players that complement one another better, and devise a set system of play that utilizes the core pieces (Jennings) strengths.

When one has above average talent like him, that is what you gear your team around! Not plodders and not peaked out one dimensional injury proned players like Redd and Delfino .

“My main goal is coming out here, making the playoffs, getting my teammates involved and trying to bring the winning back to Milwaukee,” Jennings said. “We have to win. I’m going to do my part and I’m going to try and make sure the team does their part.”

Please tell me you are not this darn naive!? Please tell me...

Let me say this slowly....if you hurt your back, you will always have back problems for the rest of your career okay? Especially when you are a 7 footer and carry as much weight as Bogut does, flops alot and has a weak core group!

You got that!? That is why all you Bogut backers who want to keep him, you understand this and read me very good here...His contract kicks in this year! He had damn sure better be worth it.

And he is not done one thing to improve his conditioning and or his low post game to take pressure off his back. He flopped twice in the Pistons games and both were called fouls!

That puts too much pressure on your back hitting the floor like that when all you have to do is make yourself tall and stop shortening yourself by floppin! He plays like a mental retard if he can't understand that.

And if he does not want to bang with Ben Wallace and Delembert two shot blockers and shot alterers who he fears throughout his career then he should have worked on a mid range game like Marco Gasol of Memphis who looks in excellent shape and dropped some 40lbs this Summer! But he did not...

I would have some balls if I was Hammond and move him as soon as I can when he has about 10-15 decent games and get from under that big time contract or take on another contract the same length from a better player and not go with a 'true Center' at all.

The NBA is moving away from Center's like Bogut who are not dominant with back to the basket moves. And with Jennings running the show YOU DONT NEED ONE!  Do all of you understand!?

    I think not...,<shakes head>

“My main goal is coming out here, making the playoffs, getting my teammates involved and trying to bring the winning back to Milwaukee,” Jennings said. “We have to win. I’m going to do my part and I’m going to try and make sure the team does their part.”
