    Revisiting the Jared Allen Trade

I was one of the few people amongst my friends/brothers who thought this was a good trade. I think when you can add one of the top 3 DEs (that is what I thought of him at the time - today I would say he is #1 best all-around)  for a few unknowns you do it. It's the old bird in the hand-I don't know what the thought on here was, but my guess is people thought it was stupid move by Minnesota.

Here's how it turned out with the picks

    What the Chiefs got:

1st round (15th overall) Branden Albert, OT — Starting LT has a chance to be good. In-and-out work ethic.
3rd round (73) Jamaal Charles, RB — Change-of-pace back averaging five carries a game in 21 pro games.
3rd round (82) DaJuan Morgan, S — Sub safety who still has to prove self to new coaching staff.
6th round (182) Kevin Robinson, WR — Cut by Chiefs in ‘08.

    What the Vikings got:

Jared Allen, DE — The league’s best all-around defensive end has 21 sacks and three safeties in 22 Viking games.
6th round (187) John Sullivan, C — First-year starting center on one of NFL’s best lines.
It’s not certain, but it’s possible that history will show that the Vikings got a more productive player at 187 (Sullivan) than the Chiefs got at 15 (Albert). Ouch.

Come on man, instead of making a play for Allen, TT turned the Pack's 2008 late 1st round pick into 3 2nd rounders and the trio of Brian Brohm, Pat Lee, and Jordy Nelson are going to make everyone forget about Jared Allen. Plus, listen to the apologists, and they'll let you know that Jared Allen is not TT's idea of "Packer People."

And let the arm chair QB's begin.

The Armchair QBs had better watch out or the couch Allen's will sack them.

Stupid Ted Thompson, he didn't trade for Allen, didn't trade for Adrian Peterson, didn't draft Joe Thomas, AND he kicks babies.

Dont get me wrong hes a good player, but he can be stopped. He has 7.5 out of his 10.5 sacks against the Pack, so outside of getting all those sacks against our horrible line he hasnt done much.

Smart Ted Thompson, didn't trade for Allen, didn't trade for Randy Moss, didn't trade for Michael Turner, didn't trade for Tony Gonzalez AND he kisses babies.

yeah, he sucks. sheesh. So does Randy Moss, Jay Cutler and every other FA that every other team acquires. Shut up, already. Jared Allen killed us. Vikings were smarter than hell to go out and get him - and he's paid off in spades.

Oy Vey, here we go again.

Moss is not the answer. If Favre doesn't play like a moron, the Pack is in the super bowl WITHOUT Moss in 07'. I LOVE how people act like Moss was the answer. Yet, the guy still doesn't have a ring. no matter where he plays, they haven't won a Super Bowl yet.

Michael Turner. That would have been a gamble that would have paid off. This one can be argued.

Tony G. Come on now. We all know this was not TT's fault. The deal was done, the papers were on the way to KC. Then 10 mins before the deadline KC said. Oh, sorry. We now want a 3rd.  Then deadline was up.

You TT haters are so f'ing dumb. And here's why. You harp on these old dumb topics that have been beaten to the ground and have very little merit. But there's a glaring weakness TT has failed on, on that's the O-line. But you hatters DON'T TALK ABOUT IT?? The one thing you'd have a valid point on, you ignore?

No one said Allen sucks. I don't recall anyone saying Moss sucked. I do recall some saying Cutler sucked.

well, when the o-line isnt fixed in 3 years - feel free to come back on here and comment (in "revisionist history" context) on "old dumb topics that have been beaten to the ground". I prefer myself to complain about it right now - and blame TT, right now, for failing to address it over two years.

You must be new to this forum - or your memory is faulty. In part to justify their leaderships' lack of off-season moves - all FA and trade deals are stupid according to most posters here. And - go back just a few posts - someone just said that Jared Allen is worthless unless he's lining up against GB's o-line.

This is a current topic that needs to be fixed. Moss and Tony G are talking about the receiving and TE spot. Those are not glaring needs nor were they. O-line is a glaring need. Let's talk about that.

Was kickoff returner, hence Percy Harvin, a "glaring need" for Minnesota? Was Devon Hester a "glaring need" for Chicago? Was Randy Moss a "glaring need" for Pats? No. But look how those three have paid off. We'll never know if Randy Moss wouldve helped us a little, or a ton. Cause TT felt he wasnt worth more than a measly 4th-rounder and Bellichek was smart enough to know better. Stupid, stupid missed opportunity, regardless of "need". Frame it how ever you want. We'll just never know.
